Below are the rules of the game, there are fairly few rules so please follow them. If you do not follow them you will be warned. Repeated offenses can lead to deranking or banning. In general I allow you to do as you wish as long as you follow the rules. The guidelines are mainly common sense things, although for someone who may never have role played in Pern, they may be quite helpful.

The Rules
  1. The universal rule for almost all rpgs: No godmoding or powerplaying (if you've gotten ooc permission from the player it's allowable).
  2. Mature content (violence, drugs, sex and the like) are allowed, however please put a warning, either in the topic description or in the top of the first post.
  3. You can have as many characters as you want just make sure you keep up with them. However for every rider you join with, you should join as a candidate, dolphineer, holder or craftsperson. You can have more than one char on an account or you can create a new account for each character.
  4. Don't get upset in a hatching if you don't get the dragon. You can always join as a new character. The Impressions of dragons depend on gender, sexual orientation, activity, quality of posts and as some randomness. Even if you don't Impress there is always another hatching.
  5. Remember this is a Pern based game, there is no magic allowed. Also please try to use Pernese terms.
  6. We do have a post line minimum! You should post at least one paragraph in each of your posts. By a paragraph, I mean five to seven sentences. Also on the other hand, do not go over board with description, we do not need three paragraphs describing your outfit.
The Guidelines
  • All dragons' names always end in -th. Flitts can be named anything except for names ending in -th.
  • For firelizards, you can have as many as you want but when you join you are only allowed to start with a single non-metallic flit.
  • Not everyone is the prettiest or most handsome person in the world. So don't act like your character is. You can have a very nice looking character… but not a flawless one. Every person has a few flaws whether that is their voice, their personality, or any of the other things that make up a person. Also, there is a matter of realism. If your character was 7'6" and 130 lbs (actual values I once saw on an application) they would probably be a corpse (or if they are actually alive, they’d be extremely sickly and they would be nothing more than skin or bones.)
  • Occasionally you can combine a career with dragon riding, for example DragonRider-healer or DragonRider-Harper (A WeyrSinger). Careers like Dragonrider-holder, Dragonrider-Watchwher handler, Dragonrider-dolphineer, etcetera are impossible.
DragonRider Honorifics
Males are the only people who can have a ' in their name, it is the honorific they use after they impress. Honorifics are formed by taking the first letter of the rider's name (or less commonly the first sound [as in Sh'gall] followed by the apostrophe followed by a shortened version of the rest of the name. They originally came about due to the tendency of the early dragon-rider pairs to slur the names while fighting thread.

The most common way of shortening a male dragon rider's name is to drop the least-stressed syllables in the name. For example, F'nor was Famanoran (fah-mah-NOR-rahn), hence F'nor. F'lar was Falarnan (Fah-LAHR-nhon), hence F'lar. However there are other ways to shorten it. For example take the name Thomas. The most common way would be to shorten it to T’mas, although T'om is also a choice. Another example from the books is Selessan became who became S'lan.

Searches and Candidates
Instead of having Candidates magically appear at the weyr when a clutch is going to be laid, Dragon riders will go on searches at the halls and holds for candidates. The weyrbrats and weyrfolk do not have to be searched this way, since they live at the weyr. Also this will allow us to have more things happening since there will be more people at the halls and holds. You do not have to but it would be nice if you do this. You can also have an NPC search you.

Timing It
In general it is a well kept Weyrsecret although a nonweyrfolk may learn about it in the old records. In this game, Timing it is allowed (in the sense you can do it and won't get in trouble OOC) although there may be IC consequences if caught.

About Coya's Tale
Before Coya's arrival, Thread was believed to be gone for good, little has changed with Coya's arrival. There is an exteremly small minority (maybe 2%) who are willing to consider that Thread may return. As such there will be only a few characters allowed to beleive or even consider believing Coya.
  • No NPC believes Coya's tale
  • Only 1 of a player's characters can be a believer
  • Those interested in having a character be a believer must give a good reason for believing
  • The only way to have a character be a believer, is to audition for it, when there is a spot open on the 'Character Needed' post
The following things you will need OOC permission from one of the admins or mods.
-A special ability such as the ability to hear all dragons
-Approval for the clutch size (more info on the flight thread)
-As a beleiver of Coya's tale (please read the section above about why that is)
