Wing Duties
Throughout the turns, the dragon's duties to Pern have changed. Originally, the wings were set up for the maximum efficiency in Thread-Fighting. However after a thousand years without thread, things have changed, and now the wings have specialized in what they do. Riders are assigned to wings in which they are best suited. And unlike in the past, the queens are more active in the wings. There are three specialties, and each specialty has multiple wings. Some of those wings will have a subspecialty. There is also a general wing, which does much of the day to day tasks, and a few special wings wings.

Each wing has one WingLeader, two WingSeconds and between 5 and 15 wingriders. Riders are placed in the wing they are best suited for. If for some reason you want to request a wing transfer, all you will need to do is get permission from both your current wingleader and the wingleader you wish to transfer to OR from the weyrleader and the wingleader you wish to transfer to.

The Specialties
Search and Rescue
-Search and Rescue, if someone gets lost, a wing can help search for them, and occasionally rescue the stranded person.
-Dragon Rescue, if a dragon is injured for some reason, this wing retrieves them and transports them back to the weyr
Patrol/Exploration
-Patrol, the wings scout their assigned area for possible problems, typically they are natural, but occasionally they are able to discourage bandits and the like
-Exploration, occasionally the wings will explore unfamiliar territory helping map it
Entertainment
-Organizing sporting events and wing expos, despite what one might expect, the entertainment wing is not all fun and games
-Entertainment such as aerostunts and dragon racing, Halls and Holds can request a wing to come and put on a show

Shared Duties The general wing does much of this, but they do rotate along the other wings when needed
-Hunting for the Weyr, if the meat stock is low, well fed dragons will go out and hunt for the weyr. Occasionally they will bring back live prey for the feeding pen
-Brush Clearing, usually done by the weyrling wing as a firestone lesson, this is merely the burning of underbrush, forested areas, or wilderness.
-Transportation, wings can be hired out to act as transportation, this is common during gathers or when there are meetings.
-Elevator Duty, the ferrying of the non dragonrider weyrfolk to the upper levels of the weyr

Special Wings:
Search Although most dragons have the ability to identify potential candidates, a few excel at it and become search dragons. This wing forms only around the time of a clutch, when the dragons go on search for candidates
Transport This ‘wing’ actually consists of 'stationed riders' or riders who spend most of their time at a hall or hold, so that they are on hand for when they are needed.
