Friend or Foe?

John walked slowly through the forest, his black trench coat flowing behind him. His partner digimon, a small orange dinosaur followed behind him.

"John, where are we going?" Agumon asked with a whine.

"Why do you keep asking that? I never know where we are going, this is your world not mine, I have no idea." John said calmly.

"True, but maybe we should start planning out where we are going ahead of time instead of just walking in random directions and hoping to find something." his partner suggested.

"Okay, do you know where we can find a way back to my world?" John asked, stopping in his tracks and facing his partner.

"No... the appearance of portals is pretty random normally." Agumon told him.

"Okay then, let's keep walking and hope that luck is on our side." John said, turning back around and continuing to walk.

He kept going until they came to a clearing. John was about to keep walking when he heard Agumon growl a little.

"John, we're not alone!" Agumon told him.

John pulled out his digivice and prepared for what was coming, but he couldn't hear anything coming out of the trees.

"Not all digimon try to attack using the element of surprise human." A voice from behind them said.

John spun around and saw a large humanoid digimon seated on a rock in the centre of the clearing. It had reptilian features, it's feet were large and had big claws. Its chest and jaw were pink and the rest had green scales covering it. It wore purple baggy pants and a yellow strip of cloth hung down from its belt, covering its front. On its back was a huge knife, and it held another smaller one in its hand. Its forearms were covered by thick red armour which had blades attached to the sides. John looked at the screen of his digivice and waited a few seconds for the display. Then the holographic display appeared and showed him everything he needed to know.

"Do you have all your information now?" Dinohumon asked.

"Yes." John said, wondering why it didn't attack.

"As you no doubt know, I am Dinohumon. I have come as an emissary from my master, he wishes you to join us. He has been watching you since you came to our world, as your skills have grown. He is impressed and wishes for you to join us, but first he wants to fully test what you are capable of." it explained.

"What kind of test?" John asked.

"He wishes to have you fight me, a fair fight. If you win, you may join us, but if you lose..." it trailed off.

"Why does your master want us?" John asked.

"He has decided that you are worthy to help him take over the digital world, he will explain himself if you win. Now prepare for battle." it said drawing the larger knife from its back into its free hand.

John pulled out a card and held it ready to use.

"Ready buddy?" he called to his partner.

"Always." Agumon replied.
