My cousin has been complaing for quite a while now that he constantly hears whispers late at night in his apartment. And this seems to happen no matter where he moves to. So, I had him take my digital recorder and just set it up when he went to bed to see what he would catch.

It's been a veeeeeeeeeeeeeery long time since I've edited evp's and I just started using Adobe Audition just to listen to his evp's, so it's not the best.

But I hear two distinct voices and I wanted to know what the experts think. biggrin.gif

Hey Spirit,
I don't think any of us will claim to be an expert, so let's put that to rest right away - just different shades of experience... wink.gif

I downloaded the file into Wavepad, amplified it and listened to it and segments of it many times. Didn't take the time to do the frequency analysis, (but I bet Gren will! - that's a compliment, he's very thorough and knowledgeable) tongue.gif

This will disappoint you - but its just not distinct enough, in my opinion, to say definitively that what you are hearing is human (or vocalized). It seems to be phonetic in nature (a string of phonemes) - like women engaged in conversation, and something gives me the impression that they are Asian. ? However, it could also very well be something natural making the noises that make it seem that way - again, it's just not distinct enough for me to tell, and I'm usually the person on our team that can "hear" evp the best. Probably because I've lived four years overseas in other cultures, and studied German, Spanish, Russian, Koine Greek, Hebrew and a bit of Latin. Plus, I was married to a Russian - so I had to develop an ear with my in-laws and her family!

The "best" sound for me came around 3.5 seconds to 5.0 seconds. Seemed like a female saying something.

It would help if you told us something about the context: what kind of recorder you used, what kind of mic (internal or external), what time of day/night, is it near a busy street, who all was there, were they sleeping, did you maintain strict noise discipline during the recording session, is there central air in the apartment that may kick on and off, ? etc, etc.

Maybe someone else will hear something clearer. My finding based on what info I have: inconclusive/not definitive.

-Mike

After my review I don't think it's much of anything. While it sounds like it is phonic none could be made out. I couldn't make any determination even with spectrographic analysis.

You said you cleaned it up? Did you make a list of steps for cleaning it? Might help to view the uncleaned version. While in it's raw state it's easier to pick out background noise. Some evps actually pop out more with the noise then without it.

I did notice the file is a dual channel. A left and a right. It's hard to analyize them in both adobe and wavepad. I managed to seperate them. Once seperated I managed to plot the spectrum data, as well as snap the actual spectrogram.

Note the spectrogram data was logged via a 3d spectrographic program wich changed in real time. It did not support the exporting of the wave form.

I also had to amp it a bit more then it was originally cause I am not in an evp friendly location and my headphones walked off.

biggrin.gif

it really wasn't much of an evp. I just wanted to see if anyone else could make out what I heard. I'm pretty sure the male voice said my cousin's last name.

But he lives in an apartment complex and w/o actually going in and debunking for myself, I can't rule anything logical out. He came to me requesting a spirit releasment, which I don't do that often cuz I really don't want anything else following me home. tongue.gif

For now, if he does have anything there, it definitely does not seem malicious. I gave him the "take your home back" spiel and we'll go from there.

By thanks for taking the time to listen grendal. I need to get back in the practice of cleaning up evps. And all i really did was a hiss reduction.

hiss reductions aren't in my experiance the greatest for cleaning. Their great for cleaning up a song or music that has a slight hiss to it. A hiss reduction is generally broadband, but the most audible stuff tends to be above 4K or higher, if u have a serious problem with hiss in an evp I tend to, drop in a low pass/high cut flter notch a good chunk out of it, then roll the shelving frequency down from 12k until u have cut as much hiss as possible without affecting the original material.

I been working for awhile with a program experimenting on cleaning out high background noise. You can see some prime examples here.

One of my 2 audio pages

In particular 12.girlsorwomansvoice and 44.woman or girls voice There is lots of background noise in them, there is lots in all of them, but those 2 are in my opinion the clearest.

Aw man! I can't hear EVP right now. The bull in the china shop, my youngest son came crashing in yesterday, got caught up in my headphone wires and made them go flying. They are in a million pieces! They were my best EVP headphones ever, and I couldn't find another pair of them yesterday. As soon as I find a good replacement set, I'll let ya know what I think! So sorry, hon! Hugs!

(it really helps since I have a million EVP's to go over for the book, ARGH!)

No clue, unless I kept the box. I threw the pieces away already. When I get back home, I'll check and see if I still have the box. Thanks gren!
