Ebdane declares 2010 bid, seeks Ramos support

MANILA, Philippines—Former public works secretary Hermogenes Ebdane on Sunday formally declared his intention to run for president in 2010 and to announce that he has been seeking the support of former President Fidel V. Ramos.

Ebdane earlier led a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio at the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila and then proceeded to the Manila Hotel to announce his political plans.

Ebdane said he has been working to get the endorsement of Ramos, chairman emeritus of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats party before it merged with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi), a move protested by Ramos.

The merged Lakas-Kampi-CMD's national executive committee has picked Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro as its standard-bearer, a move seen by party leaders to be ratified by Lakas-Kampi's national convention on November 19.

Ebdane said he has talked with Ramos about seeking his support but did not say what Ramos's response was.

Mr. Ebdane really knows what politics is all about. For God sake, he knows that his chances of being elected is far from reality. His aims is obviously pure but money. He want to form a group of supporters nationwide so that when the election comes nearer, parties who are up to adding more supporters may court him for support. He will accept the offer for a hefty amount of money to abdicate his candidacy in favor of the highest bidder.

Mr. Ebdane, had'nt change his behavior since he entered the government.
