“Yes, that is Iliana Ghemor,” Procal said. “I just found out a few minutes ago.” He was glad that the soldiers were now boarding. It meant a chance to tell them that – maybe a reason for them to listen, maybe to cease their fire. He then approached the soldiers, slowly. He was nervous, of course; what if the Cardassians had deemed him a traitor for confirming the Bajorans’ “story” of the wormhole?

He was pleased to see that Iliana and the human were safely in the empty shop. His attention was now on the Cardassians, and the sound of rapidly-approaching base security. “Glinn Procal Dukat, Garak,” said one of the soldiers, a large, middle-aged soldier with a booming voice. “We have come to extract you. There was also another Cardassian on the station. Who is he, and do you know where he is?” He reached into his bag, pulling out two badges that would enhance their patterns so that the transporters would beam them up quickly.

The security team emerged. “Don’t shoot!” Procal shouted at both them and the Cardassians. If anyone started shooting, Procal, in the position he was in, would probably be killed in the crossfire. “He’s an orphan,” he explained simply. Now, sometimes, orphans were gathered up, to be used as low-ranking soldiers. But, due to the situation, this wouldn’t be so for Kalath. He’d be killed when this station blew...if Procal would allow that to happen.

“By boarding – and destroying – this station – you’re risking war with the Federation and Bajor. Why?” Procal asked. He noted that the Cardassian was a third-tier Gil. Procal was two ranks above him – but he was in another order, serving another Gul.

“I’m a soldier. I don’t question my orders. I follow them,” he replied in that deep voice, relaying little emotion. “And right now, my orders are to extract you and Garak.” That was sort of the answer Procal had been expecting. He held the badge out to Procal.

The glinn glanced behind him at the security team, then at Garak. He looked to the other Cardassian, seeing if there was anything he could add. He was waiting on Garak to be the one to reveal the presence of Ghemor; he’d no doubt be more tactful than Procal would.

Sisko: But the question still remains: why would the Romulans want to have Garak killed?
Odo: I don't know. Considering those uniforms of theirs, you'd think they'd appreciate a decent tailor.

Iliana hissed at the boy as he poked his head up to watch. She pushed it back down. "Do you have a death wish child?" She asked, listening to what Procal said. Damn, they didn't know she was here. Well, she thought, who would? She only knew she was here a while ago.

Iliana glanced over the counter for a second. The Bajoran security team had guns at the ready, and she could just see the four outside the infirmary, one Star Fleet officer who looked scared out of her wits, and three Bajorans. She ducked back down, and glanced over to where Jake, Imaru and Parr had been earlier. They were gone, no doubt off to security.

She sighed, and looked back at the boy. "You got a name, or does your boss just call you boy?" She asked. After this finished, she'd take him to the Infirmary. She wondered why he was so reluctant to go. It wasn't the bag, he looked like the kid who was working with that other Ferengi on the station, who, apparently, Quark wasn't pleased of.

((Just for reference here, Imaru and Jake aren't visible. They ran down to the Security Office and are inside there now. Parr isn't currently visible, either. He's still on his way back to confront the Cardassians.))

El slumped back down, crossing her arms in a bit of a huff as Iliana took a turn looking out. When she looked back to the younger figure, Elhana answered, "My name's El." And, seeing as there was a chance this would be the last person she'd end up seeing while alive, it seemed well enough to ask in return, "What's yours?"

Although she no longer attempted to look out from her hiding space, Elhana listened, trying to catch some sound to indicate what was going on. Would the last sound she heard be the heavy footfalls of a soldier's approach? Or the chirp of a phaser?

"Iliana." Iliana replied to El. "You got family on the station, or does your boss care for you?" She asked. She hated seeing kids on their own, even if it was a human kid. The boy did have a rather feminine face, but she said nothing.

"Come on Garak..." She muttered under her breath, pleading he would tell the soldiers she was here. She hazarded another look over the counter. The two Cardassians and the soldiers were talking, and the security officers were eyeing them with their guns eager to fire, itchy trigger fingers ready to kill the men who had made the lives of the Bajorans hell.

"/I/ care for me," El corrected in answer to the question as she grimaced, moving one hand to the back of her head where it still throbbed. "I just work for Gref, but yeah, he makes sure I have enough for food and clothes and stuff."

After speaking, El quickly realized that she didn't really like the answer she'd given. It was far too truthful. Damn bump on the head, it made it harder to think straight, and lie straight. "My folks are traveling for a while and I'm not a big fan of their adventures so, I stay behind. What's going on out there?" she asked, since Iliana had taken another peek.

Garak had no intention of saying anything at all until he knew what the soldiers wanted. He glanced down the Promenade and frowned. They had best hurry, or they'd all be in the midst of a firefight. The Bajorans and Starfleeters looked serious. He briefly wondered if they'd recall that he lived on this station now, and he was not part of this invasion. Knowing how most viewed Cardassians, he doubted it.

Procal opened his mouth to speak to the Cardassians, but the Gil interrupted, “He's not here.” He tapped his commbadge. “Five to beam up.” The Cardassians disappeared in a flash of light, confusing the trigger-happy Bajorans. Procal raised a brow-ridge, turning his gaze upon the Garak.

Garak was no fool. When the other Cardassians disappeared, he holstered his sidearm phaser and kept his hands where security could see them. "I'm sorry, Dukat, but I have no intention of being 'extracted' by Central Command. We're either all about to die, or they've reconsidered their ill conceived invasion. I may not trust the Federation, but I don't believe they'd endanger a station full of people if they knew where your father was."

He lowered his voice. "It's just as well they didn't overhear us speaking about Iliana. If the Order realizes she has slipped out of deep cover, they'll extract her, and it won't be pretty." He frowned thoughtfully. He had a lot of thinking to do now. "I don't know how such a thing would affect the overall balance of the government. The Council has taken some blows lately. Ghemor's position isn't what it was." Yes, he had a great deal of thinking to do indeed.

Procal did the same, as soon as possible. He nodded at Garak's words, grateful for all of this. He wasn't too fond of the Order, didn't like their methods but was forced to accept them. It was nearly impossible to shake off that encounter he'd had with that agent. As he moved over slowly to the store where Iliana and the boy were hiding, he thought about her father, how he'd feel to have her back, how his father would have felt were he in her place. Well, his father would probably hate the idea of him being an Obsidian Order agent, of course.

He poked his head into the doorway, certain to keep his hands where Security could see them. "Are you two alright?" he asked them.

"Stand down," Parr told his understandably jumpy men. "No firing at those two." He gestured at Garak and Glinn Dukat. Stepping forward, he kept his phaser at the ready in case the Cardassians decided to come back. "It would be helpful if we could get a statement from you two about what just happened," he said. He couldn't order them. Well, technically, he could order Garak, but he believed that wouldn't be very productive. He looked into the shop behind the Glinn and frowned at the sight of a boy with a bloody head. "You ought to get that checked out," he said.

He poked his head into the doorway, certain to keep his hands where Security could see them. "Are you two alright?" he asked them.

"We're fine. Well, I'm fine, dunno about El." Iliana said, standing up. She huffed. "Well, now that they're gone, and they say you're not on the station, we're all going to die. Couldn't you have explained the situation a little better?" She folded her arms, looking at Procal with a rather moody face.

She sighed, and turned to El. "Come on you. I'm taking you to the Infirmary whether you like it or not. The doctor won't askk any questions except how you hurt yourself. It'll be over in a snap." Iliana said, turning back around, waiting for El to stand and join her.

Many Cardassian females had taken that attitude with them, and he had turned away from them. But it was this woman, who didn't even look Cardassian, that attracted him when she began to bicker at him. He scowled. "We're not going to die," he snapped. "They wouldn't risk a war with the Federation. They're not idiots, though I'm sure you think they are."

El frowned as she moved to stand up as well. She wasn't too happy to hear Iliana say they were about to die. As independent as she pretended and wanted to be, the reality remained that she was still a kid who relied on and believed the words to adults, most of the time. She glanced from the woman to Procal who took an opposing stance. Which one would be right?

"Come on you. I'm taking you to the Infirmary whether you like it or not. The doctor won't askk any questions except how you hurt yourself. It'll be over in a snap."

Elhana sighed in a poignant sort of way, as if she was the one giving in, for their sake. "Fine." Of course, they weren't really giving her a choice, but this way El at least made it seem like it was her choice and could keep up the appearances of pride. She stepped forward to join Iliana, bag in hand, wondering inwardly how much good it was going to do anyway, getting healed up if they were just going to be killed at any moment. For as much as she seemed to be fighting going to the infirmary, she was glad not to be going alone.
