Can't Understand, Zetos

[Zetos Lapier]

"I don't want you guys wiped out... I don't want anyone wiped out..."

Zetos took another step and almost fell over from the laughing. The laugh was no longer a hiss, it was a whole-hearted good times laugh.

"It's so stupid..."

His eyes shifted to her in hatred. "Every thing's stupid, but we live with it, get over that fact that it sucks. The rest of us have." His words were almost spat at her, it was almost as if he was defending something, but it was more defending his past. Biting his tongue hard he drew blood after noticing he had just snapped at her, that was something that would not normally happen, normally the vamp was able to keep his cool, but for some reason those words cut deep into him.

A small sigh escaped the vampire's throat as well. "I'm sorry..." He wouldn't normally apologize to a were, but he felt that this time it was required. She was so innocent, and looked as if she hadn't even known much about the war until after he had told her what was said. "I just have... Strong feelings when it comes to this war." The scarred right hand fell to the dagger pouch, landing right on his silver dagger, this was where his memories had begun.

"Every thing's stupid, but we live with it, get over that fact that it sucks. The rest of us have." He practically growled at her.

Zoe flinched, waiting to be struck. He reeked of anger and hatred, and it just broke her heart that anyone had to suffer through that. When he never hit her, she opened her eyes cautiously. Wait, why could she suddenly smell blood? She checked herself. No, it wasn't her own scent, it was unfamiliar. She looked around curiously. Maybe he bit his tongue or something, because the smell was coming from his mouth.

"I'm sorry..." Her breath caught in her throat. Had he just... apologized? No one had ever apologized to her before, ever. She didn't know what to do, she didn't know what to think. And hadn't he almost branded her not too long ago? What had changed?

"I just have... Strong feelings when it comes to this war."

Obviously. "What happened to you?" She asked out of pure, innocent curiosity. Maybe if she knew what was wrong, she could help him. That's what she was here for, that's what her purpose in life was. Her purpose was helping people and making everyone happy. That's the reason she was so subservient so often. She thought it made others happy. In all honesty, she didn't really care all that much about herself.

"What happened to you?"

A small sigh escaped the vampire, they were almost onto the min level, but there was still a bit more of a ways to go. With shifting eyes, Zetos checked for any that might have been eavesdropping. "Contrary to popular belief, I'm still insane." A small smile cracked the somewhat anger inside of him, releasing the evil brew within his soul. "All because of your kind. They didn't do it to feel good either." The words were spat out. "They did it because they thought it was funny, and then when they were done with me life was still funny as hell. Even as their brothers were killed."

A long scar that had traveled from the tip of his index finger all the way to his wrist was revealed to her. "I got this trying to get away, never had felt such a great pain in my life. That was the beginning of my two years of torture, where I didn't sleep one night..." The words were hissed as the eyes turned to slits remembering the jeering. Slowly he looked at her, "And you know what... If they're beating you they're just getting more angry. They're getting more angry cause you're the only thing they can beat, but if you helped them learn to fight... Then they wouldn't be angry." It was a trick, to at least get the girl to stand up for herself, even if she didn't know that was what he was doing, but something told him that it may just not work.

They did it because they thought it was funny, and then when they were done with me life was still funny as hell. Even as their brothers were killed. I got this trying to get away, never had felt such a great pain in my life. That was the beginning of my two years of torture, where I didn't sleep one night..."

Zoe listened with rapt attention as he told his story. She even almost cried, but she managed to keep them in. She had a feeling he wouldn't appreciate them.

"And you know what... If they're beating you they're just getting more angry. They're getting more angry cause you're the only thing they can beat, but if you helped them learn to fight... Then they wouldn't be angry."

She shook her head from left to right. "You're wrong, you know. It makes them angrier when I try to fight back, and they only make it even worse. For instance, last time it happened, Dad clawed my throat. I thought he was going to kill me, so I bit back. Then he stopped, and mom growled at me to get out. So I did. Then they wouldn't let me eat, and they made sure everyone in werewolf territory made sure I couldn't get any food." She shook her head, trying to dispel the painful memories.

"Your people were the first to allow me any food, did you know that?" She smiled at him in a friendly way, "So we know that vampires don't deserve to be wiped out. And you should meet my friend Jack, he's the sweetest thing... If you met him, you'd see that not all werewolves are horrible."

She took his hand in hers and tugged on it playfully. "Come on, come back with me."

"Your people were the first to allow me any food, did you know that?" She smiled at him in a friendly way, "So we know that vampires don't deserve to be wiped out. And you should meet my friend Jack, he's the sweetest thing... If you met him, you'd see that not all werewolves are horrible."

A snarl crossed the vampires lips, his fangs showing, as he pushed open the door in front of him.

"Come on, come back with me."

He ripped his hand back, "No... You need to go by yourself, get out of here while you can! Run for your life, once you're out of our territory you no longer have my blessing." Slowly he continued to walk, when he hit the fence that surrounded the territory he would let her go by herself, she would just have to be careful enough not to become a were, until after she had left the territory.

Slowly he stopped at the gate, looking at the finger print scanner. "This'll take only a second..." The vamp placed his thumb against the screen and a light shone up getting his fingerprint and matching it, then he switched to the index, continuing with all of the fingers on his right hand till they had all been scanned in. The gate opened, "Now get out before any suspect you, none of them will, unless you change forms." With a quick turn the vampire was walking back towards the building, his soul hurt, but he would not show it, he would never show it.
