Blue Faced Beast - November 17, 2007 04:10 AM (GMT)
Any of you who have not tried this game out need to do so immediately. GREAT game...and all our favs are in it, Nobunaga, Shingen, Kenshin, etc. I still need to get the expansions for it...anybody played this game yet? If so, your thoughts?

scholar - November 17, 2007 04:13 AM (GMT)
i personaly dont own it but its a good game

sparkingAC195 - November 17, 2007 04:27 AM (GMT)
Its a decent game, but handicapped by the fact that you can only play as 6 Daimyo.

PS. Thanks for Joining and Mongol Invasion is a waste of money, like most of tyhe Total war expansions.

Blue Faced Beast - November 17, 2007 04:27 AM (GMT)
You should now scholar, it's dirt cheap, with all the expansions too.

scholar - November 17, 2007 04:29 AM (GMT)
i know but i cant find it and the shipping costs half as much as the game

Blue Faced Beast - November 17, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
Amazon.com dude. It's my life-line to cds and games with relatively cheap shipping(almost non-existent here in the US).

Well it's EA...not KOEI...what do you expect? B) It'd take a miracle for EA to make a strategy game half as good as Koei.

It's about the same @ Gamestop if I remember correctly. You might check there and avoid the extra costs.

Well, I'm going to have to wait till 2008 for the one in my mall to open. Till then, I'll entertain myself with LoD.

The samurai below "Midnight Rider". I love old pics like that, especially the kind that happen to have real samurai in them.

I have eras, its a good buy because it comes with the gold edition which allows you to train Sohei and build temples after you convert.

EDIT: that is the rank pic once you reach 310 posts, thank bisha for that.

I've heard that ashigaru are really underpowered in Shogun. Is it true?

By that time "Rise To Power" will drop, then you're gonna be torn over which game to play...well, maybe not so much... :D

they are the base unit, like peasants in the other TW games so yes they are.

wassupimviet - November 17, 2007 04:43 AM (GMT)
The Real Time elements of Rise To Power are looking really good. I always liked RTS games.

Terribly. Not only that, they turn and run at the first sight of an enemy unit. I never use them...starting out I stick with Yari cavalry and infantry.

wassupimviet - November 17, 2007 04:44 AM (GMT)
Sounds like Nobunaga will be a bad choice to start out with then. I'm going to have to go with the Uesugi on this.

I didn't care too much for their assets. I've beat it with the Takeda and the Shimazu though.

NO! Ashikaru includes Musketeers and Arquebusiers! don't play Uesugi, play Mori!

Hmm, any naval elements to this game. If so, the Mori might be good.

Not at all. only in samurai warlords can you build ships.

wassupimviet - November 17, 2007 04:49 AM (GMT)

yes, many of the Mori's starting provinces can build naginata units (because of the Armouries) not only that their specialist unit is the best unit in the game, and ports like Harima mean you can have arquebusiers before most other Daimyo do.

yes, that is their specialty unit, which as i stated before, is the best infantry unit in the game.

Christianity involved in this? I also hear you can trade with the Dutch as well as the Portuguese to get muskets alongside arquebuses.

yes, if you want muskets earlier, you can convert to Christianity by trading with the Portuguese, around or before 1540, the dutch come at around 1580.

Blue Faced Beast - November 17, 2007 04:59 AM (GMT)
The Dutch don't require you to put on "the papist yoke" either. Those warrior monks can sure clear out some people carrying those little shrines around with them(opposing units are hesitant to attack them because of their religious status).

but isn't that ability against you void once you convert?
