Title: Meiji Restoration
Description: Imperial Rule Once Again

wassupimviet - January 2, 2008 08:00 PM (GMT)
The Meiji Revolution, a series of conflicts that successfully overturned the Tokugawa Bakafu with the abdication of the Tokugawa Shogun, Yoshinobu. Sakamoto Ryoma was one of the head runners of this Restoration, putting Emperor Meiji into power and restoring imperial rule. But, that's all I know. So discuss, educate, and learn, maybe putting down a link or two.

erh not too fond of this period, samurai class is restricted, and a few other things that lead to its immediate restoration, except from a few ronin rebellions, but this lead to the downfall, eventually.

Not my favored subject, either, but it is the period that shows Japan's transition from a isolated and proud country into a major world power.

Ah yes the Restoration, back when Japan was ruled by one burns victim who had a giant steel battleship and ten loyal followers, two of which wanted to kill him...

Seriously, Meiji is a real contender for greatest japanese Ruler. Ever.

Yes, Ruroken is great!

But seriously, Meiji is without a doubt, Japan's greatest leader.

I'm sure he is...So great that he had only a single heir and tons of people out to get him!

wassupimviet - January 3, 2008 12:29 AM (GMT)
Feudalism wasn't THAT bad...Besides, we could have had the next great shogun in a few decades or so!

He was better than 100% of all Tokugawa Shoguns that don't have a first name starting with Ieyasu...

actually, what good did Hidetada do? Ieyasu was still very much in power during half of his reign, much like Chinese Politics, really...
