A role playing game is a game were you take the place of a character you have made and designed, and act him out through various situations presented by the Game Master (Thats me). I control what happens, and the setting, and I put your character into a situation, and you have him respond. If anyone has ever played Diablo, GURPS, Duengons and Dragons, or anything from the World Of Darkness, you have played a role playing game!
Here is an example. Bob is playing Ed the U.S Marine, and im the Game master. Game master: Okay, 'Ed', your sitting in the barraks making your bunk when you hear a fellow recruit call out "Attention on deck!" Bob: I jump up leaving my bunk unmaid and stand at attention. Game Master: Every one else in the barraks does the same, and a tall, trim officer walks into your view. "At ease" he says, and every one else goes back to doing what they were doing. Hes standing in front of you. Bob: Okay. 'Ed' does a mock salute and smiles. "What can I do for you, sir?" I say. Whats his rank? Game master: The silver railroad tracks on his dress blue uniform indacates hes a captian. Okay, not so tough, huh? Thats just the simple way, not involving combat, skill rolls, or anything else like that, but thats not important; If you want to know about that, check the 'characters section'. GURPS, on the other hand, stands for Generic Universal Roleplaying System, and their homepage and a description can be found here... http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/ -------------------- 99 Decision street, 99 war ministers meet. Worry, worry, super scury, call the troops out in a hurry. This is what weeve been waiting for, this is it boys, this is war. The president is on the line, as 99 baloons go by.
