...WITH THE POWER TO BE...
The first thing that has to be mentioned when speaking of Lanny Darling is his sense of humor. He was definitely not hiding in corner when those babies were being handed out. He can see the funny in almost anything, and he often employs this talent. It can get to be a little bit too much though: a lot of the time, he doesn't know when to stop, so he gets annoying. He has also hurt a few people with his jokes, though he never sets out to do so. At times, it seems like he doesn't have a filter that tells him when joking around is acceptable, but in his opinion, there should be room for fun in every situation, and he quite frequently uses humor to avoid uncomfortable situations.
Another thing is that he talks non stop, about everything and nothing. No topic is too lofty, or too trivial for him to address. He has absolutely no qualms about speaking in public, and isn't afraid to share his views with you. His views might not always be something to listen to though: he doesn't always think before he speaks, and he has said some incredibly stupid things as a result of this. He will, however, be the first one to point his mistake out, and laugh at himself for making it. The direct-connection between his thoughts and his mouth also makes for a few awkward situations, usually because he's said something weird that just randomly popped into his head. He is, however, definitely not easily embarrassed and can shrug off just about anything without too much of a fuss. He rarely blushes, and he's generally a hard person to make uncomfortable.
Despite what the verbal diarrhoea indicates, he's actually quite intelligent when it comes down to it. Nothing special, of course, but he does have a brain and has been known to use it from time to time, just for kicks. In school, he got decent grades in most subjects, mostly B's and C's with the occasional D and the occasional A thrown in, just for good measure. His favorite subject in school was English, which happens to be the subject that his mother teaches, and also what his father majored in when he was in college. He has inherited his father's love for words and writing, and always has a notebook with him that. He can often be seen scribbling away in this notebook, but he is very self-conscious about what he writes, and doesn't show it to anyone. He also keeps a journal, but makes damn sure that no one knows about it, and he hides it in a desk drawer, which he keeps locked at all times, more as a habit than out of any necessity for hiding it.
One of the reasons why Lanny didn't do better than he did in school, is his inability to sit still. He's always moving around, to the great annoyance of many other people. When you do manage to get him to sit on his butt in a chair, he'll still move around, doing some for of movement, like jiggling his foot or clicking his pen on and off. In keeping with his inability to sit still, is the fact that he always gesticulates a lot when he's talking. He's liable to smack innocent passers by, or even himself at times, but it's a habit he can't get rid of.
Organization is not exactly Lanny's forté: his apartment, and especially his bedroom, is always littered with clothing and other random items, and his bed is always unmade. It takes ballerina-like skills to navigate over his bedroom floor if you don't want to break anything. There are, however, two spots at his place that are subject to religious tidiness: his bookshelf and his desk. His bookshelf is organised alphabetically by author, and he hates it when people pull out books and put them back in the wrong place. His desk is also meticulous: however much junk is carelessly deposited on the floor, he never leaves things on his desk.
If there is one thing that Lanny hates, it has to be seriousness. He's a very lighthearted guy, and likes to keep things... well, light. For him, it's a requirement that you have a sense of humor if you want to be his friend. If you don't laugh at his jokes - forget it. Even if you're the sweetest person in the world, Lanny won't like you. Actually, he's not that into people who are considered to be 'sweet'. He feels that they are more likely to tell on him when he's pulled some kind of prank, and more likely to judge him for his tricks. He dislikes being judged, but doesn't realize that when he suspects people of judging him, he's ultimately judging them.
When it comes to the opposite sex, Lanny has made up his mind - he loves every last one of them. He's prone to having crushes on a lot of different girls at the same time, but never getting serious with any of them. He might flirt excessively every time he meets a girl, but his attention is fickle, and might be taken the wrong way if you meet him for the first time.

PLACE OF BIRTH: Bandera, Texas
Lanny Darling was born on April 1st, 1979, as the last child of Kurt and Evette Darling. His parents were thrilled to have him, though he gave them a little scare by arriving five weeks early. His mother, Evette wasn't due until May, but they had been prepared to deal with complications in connection with the birth, seeing as neither of his older siblings, Aiden and Cassidy, had been brought into the world without some kind of trouble. He spent the first days of his life in an incubator, and his low body weight forced the doctors to tube-feed him if they felt that he hadn't eaten enough. He did, however, pull through it quite easily and his parents were allowed to take him home once he was outside of danger.
The first years of little Lanny's life were absolute bliss. He was close to both his siblings in age, so the three of them could play nicely together, with only the occasional squabble. He did, however, start being a troublemaker at a very early age. Nothing bad, or anything, but he always seemed to have a trick up his sleeve or a prank to pull off. He was also quite the energy bomb, and was always all over the place. His parents watched him as well as they could, but they couldn't put him under constant supervision, so he ended up hurting himself a lot when he was a child. Many of his accidents warranted trips to the emergency room. He's broken both arms a number of times: at one point, he managed to break both at once. He's also broken a few fingers, and sprained his ankle several times. Most would call him unlucky to have broken so many bones, but the fact is that he's been pretty lucky, considering how many times he didn't injure himself seriously. Actually, everything considered, he's been lucky to never really have been in grave medical danger due to his many stunts.
Starting school was an interesting experience for Lanny and his energy. Though his parents had been diligent about watching him, he had been allowed to do pretty much anything he wanted within certain limits. His academic career held a lot of more limits for him, and though he didn't exactly like it, he did rise to the challenge, and came to regard school as somewhat enjoyable, due to all the new friends that he was making.
High school was much the same for him, and he quickly became known as a prankster, but he had a group of friends who liked him, and he never aimed for being well liked by everyone, although he never really made any real enemies either. In fact, he was nothing special in terms of popularity when he was in high school. He wasn't one of the cool kids, and he wasn't one of the nerds: mostly, he was just there.
Upon graduating from high school, he had already made up his mind what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, and become a writer. He decided to go to San Antonio College and study English like his father had done, but his college days were more about partying than studying, although he did manage to scrape together a decent, though certainly not impressive, collection of grades. When he graduated, he was eager to get his writing career started, and he moved to Bishop City because he felt that Bandera wasn't a suited environment to write his book in, and, unlike his father, he dreamed rather big and wanted to write the next great American novel. So far, it has been an unsuccessful endeavour though, and at 29, Lanny is getting rather panicked. His father was already published by the end of his college days, and Lanny himself has gotten nowhere near publication, despite it being seven years since he graduated from college. He has long since been forced to take on a job as a waiter at a local diner to get by, which he is worried is interfering with his writing, and his worries are not diminished by all the rejection letters that keep piling up in his mailbox.
