General Forum FAQ
1. What is the board rating? We are a mature rated board. This means we allow R content in marked threads and cursing is acceptable. Any threads with graphic sexual or violent scenes will be flagged so players can avoid them if they see fit.
2. What is posting length like on the board? And the style? We have no post length minimum or maximum. Posts range from 100 words to more than 1,000 depending on both the writer and the scene. Post the length you feel comfortable. We do ask that you use a spell check program though. The style is third person past tense, which means he said or she said, not I said or I say.
3. What's your activity policy? How long can I be missing before my stuff gets archived? If you are inactive at an activity check and have not posted an absence note you will be archived and expected to reapply. If you play canon characters your characters may be taken up by other plays when you get back. In short when in doubt please leave us a notice.
4. How many threads may I have going at once? As many as you want. Time is very loose here, so you can be posting in as many or as few places as you want to. Just try and keep them up. We use a time stamp so you can keep order on things as they have happened and it's easily located in the sidebar.
5. What's the deal with Avatars? Every character should be portrayed by a Play-By/avatar/face claim. Please use a real photograph - no anime or comic drawings. For the same reasons we don't allow you to use your own names for a character you shouldn't use a picture of yourself. It's too personal and in role-playing there needs to be a certain level of detachment. Check the taken PBs list before choosing one. Do not request movie canon faces for other characters.
6. And how about Signatures? Please keep signatures at a maximum of 500 x 200. Typical avatar size on our board is 150x150. You may not use your signature to link to or advertise other sites and they must be related to the character; not random images. If you aren't good with graphics or just don't have the time you can make a request
here.7. What shouldn't I do in the c-box [sidebar]?No outside advertising. We have an advertising forum. No in-character role playing in the sidebar please. Feel free to plot via messenger or in our forums, but no IC conversations on the OOC bar. Remember to respect other players and to be friendly to new guests.
8. What sort of things will get me banned?- Being disrespectful to other players or the admin. We put a lot of time and effort into making this board run efficiently. If you're driving players away or making this feel like a job for us we're going to ask you to leave. It's a game. Enjoy it.
- Plagiarism. Stealing parts of a canon application from someone else, graphics, or even actual posts. We're all writers and it's not okay to do.
Character Information FAQ
1. When creating my original character what should I be aware of? When building your character, please try to avoid the Mary Sue / Gary Stu pitfalls. Remember no one is perfect and your characters should reflect this. Level five mutants are rare and will probably never be accepted in an original character. Powers can be interesting and unique without being extreme.
Your account should consist of your character's first and last name or their code name. Example: Scott Summers or Cyclops, Hank McCoy or Beast etc. Never an online user handle.2. What do I need to know when applying for a canon characters? We are a Movieverse X-men sites so canon powers are subject to change to fit more in line with film formatting. We might ask you to tone down the powers based on character age. If you're playing the teenage version of a powerful mutant they won't have the same skill set they do in their thirties or older. You can select what faction your canon will be - within reason. (Magneto would never be in the Human-Mutant Alliance.) We might request you change terminology or alter a relationship that may or may not make sense given how another player is playing their character. Canons not in the movies are welcome, but we might ask you to alter details to make the fit with movieverse.
3. Am I allowed to apply for other Marvel canons (Fantastic Four, Spiderman, etc)? No, we are a strictly X-men movieverse site. We won't bridge genres.
4. What exactly does "movieverse" mean?It means we follow the universe set up by the movies. While the X-men comic books are wonderful there is more than fifty years of canon created by many, many different writers making a streamlined approach nearly impossible. For some people it will mean taking an age that might have been ambiguous and setting it in stone, like Gambit appearing in the Wolverine film, and for other people it might mean a relationship that may or may not have existed in the comics, like Bobby and Rogue. What happened in the films is factual and must be part of your character's history, but that doesn't mean Bobby and Rogue have to be a couple on CBS. They can grow apart; he could be with Kitty. It's open for creativity as long as you respect the movie outlines.
5. What sort of powers aren't allowed? We're avoiding time travelers, dream walking, manipulating the free will of other characters, and anything that might involve a level five non-canon mutant. These things simply do not work on a board RPG.
6. How do you decide the mutant class levels?Experience: if they're fourteen years of age, it's unlikely they have great control over their powers compared to a thirty year old who has had training and can control their powers.
Type of power: if it's just a physical mutation, then lower class because they don't have a offensive/defensive power that can affect anything.
Training: like experience, training has a hand in what class level because the ability to control their power.
If you are creating a fourteen year old character keep in mind that their powers are NOT fully realized.
7. Why has my character not been accepted? If it has been less than 48 hours since your application was posted, please be patient. If you have not posted your last accepted character a minimum of ten times IC your application is pending until you have. You can expect a note with necessary alterations to be posted beneath your character's bio. If there are no necessary alterations then the bio will be accepted shortly.
8. How many characters can I have?As many as you can handle. However, please be prepared to keep canons active. Unless you have a standing absence note we expect canons to be kept in circulation if you want to keep them.
9. What if I want to to drop a character? You are, of course, welcome to drop characters, sometimes you make one and they just don't work for you. We do however ask that you think carefully about the plots you are involved with and the people affected by your decision. To drop a character you can either PM an admin notifying them or wait until an activity check and indicate you no longer want the character.
