A vast rolling landscape stretches out for miles, broken apart by large stands of trees and mountain ranges. Long yellowed grass swayed in faint eddies of a breeze, and in places, tickled the heels of the herd animals that roam there. Life is everywhere in the clearings, a bountiful place for it's inhabitants to raise their young. Watching over all of this, like rulers from their thrones, are wolves. Running free in this place of theirs they have made a home, and have done well in this place. One pack, just starting to get on it's feet, prepare to meet the challenges that await them, for while this place is plentiful, hard work is still needed to survive.
~~~ ooc: Ok, there's the setting, I'll be posting a new thread for stats and things, so watch for it. Kitty, take it from here kiddo, I need to work on my wolf. |
Sledge allowed herself a short moment of rest, laying in the tall grasses with her eyes closed. She looked almost like a carcass, her hide was so scarred from years of fighting on her own, and her one ear twitched with the wind. The other had been torn off some years ago, she couldn't remember how, but that sort of trivial thing never bothered her. She grunted slightly as she forced herself to stand, shaking the dirt from her fur and yawning. She hadn't eaten for a few days, because of her lack of friends and the sheer size of the prey around here, but she ignored it and continued on her way, heading south. Sledge didn't quite know why she was going south, but she figured it would at least be warmer there. Her fur was short and ragged over the scars, a deep grey color, eyed deep yellow and hollowed from years of experience. She was far younger than she looked, but her age wasn't the reason she was so worn. Sledge could be considered a large wolf, her build was burly and muscular. She had allways been that way, and therefor allways rallying for the best spots among the strongest of the wolves. She was treated as a male all of her young life, and so was the first in line to fight rival packs, to take down the strongest prey, and to take care of loners. But without a pack she was just a big wolf. One wolf, no matter how large, couldn't take down an elk by it's self, so she would go hungry untill she found some rabbits. She had been kicked from her old family because the new alphess in charge didn't like the fact that she didn't talk. She had found it unnerving. Sledge had never found any real need to talk to anyone, so she just never did. And that was why she was now out, alone, and in the cold. She walked slowly and quietly, wary of any food source that could be nearby.
Akari was lounging on some rocks that jutted out of the earth near a hill, watching the plains below her as the long grasses swayed with the faint breeze, her own dark pelt stirring at it's touch. Her keen golden eyes were quick to spot movements, they always had been. Growing up she was always a good spotter for her old pack, and as she was fleet of foot with a lanky, well muscled frame she also tended to get the better of the other pups, getting the food first and eating her fill. It was these traits that had made the alphess of her old pack boot her out when she came of age, fearing that she would be too much of a threat to the alpha slot. She casually scratched behind her ear as she lounged, freezing when she spotted movement out of the corner of her eye. Sinking to her belly she crept slowly to the edge of the rock for a closer look. Something was laying in the grass, and at first glance it looked dead. Akari stood, curiosity aroused, and walked slowly down the rocks, landing silently on the ground. Her ears forward, fur raising slightly, she walked with a cautious step towards the thing in the grasses, ready for any surprises this out of place thing could provide.
Sledge shook her fur, but suddenly stopped in her tracks as she noticed the black fae in front of her. She growled deeply, hackles raising and teeth bared. Her claws dug deep into the earth, and she lowered her body to pounce if this fae took one step closer to her. She gave a warning bark, tail high, ears folded down. Hopefully she would get the message, because Sledge was far bigger than her, and could probably win a fight. But she was mildly self-centered, so she didn't pay attention to the fae's sharp eyes and wiry muscles.
Akari snapped to her toes, legs going out wide and head lowered, fangs bared, snarling back at the other wolf. her tail high in the air, slightly arching over her back in a display of dominance, and her hackles raised. She kept her eyes on the intruder, quickly noting the ready to pounce stance and the thick, scar toughened hide backed up by muscle. She lowered her head more, keeping her muscles tense in case she needed to leap out of the way. Locking her gaze with the other wolf's, she spoke lowly, with mild undertones of her snarl. "Who are you outsider? And what do you seek in my territory?"
Sledge dropped her growl, hiding her teeth and standing back up straight. 'Oh, so she's just some little girl trying to play alphess, then. I have no time for this.' She thought, tail going back down. She narrowed her eyes at the fae, standing in a way that was more cold and judging than any snarl could be. She looked the alphess over, sniffed the air, and noted that her territory must yet be small. She slowly continued to walk the direction she had started going.
Akari growled low. "I asked you a question." She eased her stance slightly, hackles still slightly raised and tail still held somewhat high. "Are you from the east ridge pack by chance? Your scent isn't familiar to me." She moved to the wolf's path, not blocking it, but clearly marking her presence in the wolf's way until she got answers.
Sledge narrowed her eyes further, aggrivated at this fae's persistance. She shook her head in reply to the question, blinking at her. She wasn't going to honor this fae with sppech. She lifted one paw slightly, then set it back down, sighing slightly. She sat, realizing she was probably going to be here for a while. She shook her head again, wrapping her tail around her paws in a calm way.
Akari moved directly in the way, standing more subdued and keeping her eyes looking right into the eyes of the other wolf. She was mildly irritated that she hadn't had a reply out of this wolf yet, but it was easy to ignore, she wanted answers out of this wolf, and she was going to get them. "I believe my questions are clear enough. But if you do not wish to wow me with words, simple answers will suffice me. Being that my territory is small and new does not mean that I am weak, it does not mean I am a poor leader. I am only a year in this territory but it is mine, before then I was a top contender in my pack for the alpha place, my own mother removed me from the pack, believing herself under threat." She sat down slowly, settling in. "Allow me to make the first introduction, I am Akari, I was booted from my pack as soon as I reached maturity, the only pup for three years to be booted, let alone so soon. I have survived by coming here, feeding off the carrion and small game that like to hide here." She shuffled her seating for a moment, quickly looking the wolf over. "Now then. I do believe I am allowed the simple courtesy of at least your name."
Sledge sighed and looked down, reluctant, but feeling slightly more at ease because of the alphess' frindly nature. She battled with herself for a few moments, before speaking very quietly. "Sledge." She muttered, barely audiable. her tail tightened around her paws. her voice was ragged even when so low from years of disuse. Her eyes flicked away, as though she felt vulnerable even from speaking one word.
Akari didn't look away from this sledge, but her gaze softened. "Greetings Sledge." She got to her feet, angling her body towards the open planes, looking over her shoulder. "Now I won't pry your history from you, and you may be from another pack, but I am hungry. Feel free to join me." She visibly looked Sledge over. "You look like you need a rabbit or two in your belly."
Sledge grumbled to herslef silently, but her stomach grumbled back louder. She sighed and reluctantly followed the friendly alphess called Akari, keeping her head down. She couldn't smell any prey, but then again, her nose wasn't the sharpest.
She perked her ears slightly, listening as she followed. |
Akari kept her nose close to the ground, pausing in one place for a moment. "Ah... Here's an old rabbit trail." She sniffed at it carefully. "The scent here doesn't smell too old, maybe a couple of days." She looked back at Sledge. "I'm pretty sure there should be a warren around here somewhere, this path seems to be rather popular.
Sledge nodded and moved ahead slightly, following the path Akari had indicated. Her ears flicked back, slightly dissapointed. She missed being able to take down large game, but it was all just too big to tackle alone here. So she would have to settle for rabbits untill she found an actual pack to stay with. She scented the ground, mostly smelling only snow and dirt, but picking up a faint trace of rabbit in it. She stalked carefully forward, the scent growing stronger by the pace. After a few minutes, her eyes caught a bush off in the distance. She gestured towards it, looking at Akari.
(I don't know the fine print, so I'm just going to jump in, and you may correct me when/if needed.)
Diego walked along the plain, dragging his feet. He had not eaten for some while, and his friend, Rotrin, had not returned for some while. He had said that he was going to get food, but that had been two days ago. And Diego had been wandering for some time now, following a smell he couldn't quite make out. He didn't like where this was going, and he didn't like being so vulnerable. He hoped he found someone friendly soon, he didn't know how much more he could take. His tribe hadn't been that supporting, especially after the new prince had taken charge and kicked him out. |
