Creeping Shadows, Will all be consumed by shadows?

Rissa huddled near the path shivering. The night was cold, and dark. Her feet hurt from running, running away from the village which even now glowed in the distance, fired by a goblinoid raid. the goblins were more active than ever, and there were whispers of orcish sightings on the coast. Rissa was glad to be well inland if such was the case.
The scattered, stunted trees and sparse shrubbery made bare cover and even worse shelter. She could not risk a fire being noticed, even to warm her chilled bones. It was eerily quiet, and Rissa's ears strained for any sound of someone approaching.

The sound of footsteps quietly appeared through the thin woods, a relatively slow pace that denoted an unassuming stroll. A pair of worn old leather boots crunched the leaves and branches that had fallen to the ground, their owner obviously not trying to hide himself in any way. He slowly appeared on the path, a short man of only five foot five, but obviously not a human. In fact, the closest thing he could be described as would be a goblin or wood creature of some sort. But he didn't look anything like the goblins that were found in the surrounding areas. His face was softer, with a nose that mildly resembled a dogs and large eyws. His skin was mottled brown, a small pair of horns sprouted at his brow, and his ears were huge and hung down, like a cow's. They were slightly ragged and one had a few earrings in it. On his head he wore a small skullcap helmet, with steel supports and leather lining, and a small plate of chest and shoulder armor that matched it. Under the armor he wore a baggy sleeved brown shirt of some rough fabric, and a pair of lighter colored pants that hung just over the top of his boots. his belt had a large silver buckle that looked like a lion's head. His face was curved into an easy smile, revealing slightly pointed canines, and his eyes were soft and brown. He made his way down the path happily, only stoping when he noticed the orange glow of flame on the horizon. The corners of his mouth dropped and he stared, wondering if it was a trick of the eyes or not.

Rissa jumped at the nearby noise and cursed the scraping of her feet and the scattering of stones from the path. Whoever it was must know she was here now, so she stood.
"Who goes there?" she said, then conjured a fire on her palm. She knew from experience that her eyes would go a bright red, the only unnatural colour among the various colours her eyes would change to when she used her powers.
She couldn't make out the shape very well, as it was still some distance away.

The goblin called Viz jumped slightly at the sudden noise, turning to look at the figure in the path. "Woah, hey! No need to light me on fire, I'm not doin' anything wrong!" he said, lifting his hands and walking forward so the girl could see him more clearly. "Jeeze, you scared me there, thought you were some banditess or somethin'...." He said, still holding his hands up. "The name's Viz. It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you or anythin', I'm just walking down the road here..."

((Not fair! My old favorite RP character was called Viz! I'll start RPing tomorrow probably. Gotta make a new character. Or bring over Shavo. He hasn't quite un-locked his potential on any of the RP boards I've taken him to.))

Rissa's eyes narrowed as the shape came into the firelight.
"Goblin," she hissed.

Vid lowered his hands slightly. "Hey, wait now. You're not tellin' me this is one of those lands with goblin prejudice, is it? C'mon, I never hurt anybody for no reason in my life!" He said, trying to be as calm as possible in the face of a magic user. He didn't want to have to fight back. "Look, can you at least tell me what's goin' on over there?" He asked, pointing to the glow on the horizon.

"A goblin raid, that's what happened," she growled, her eyes turning slightly towards silver as the breeze picked up.

Viz's face suddenly became distressed. "Woah....woah! I didn't have anything to do with it!!! How could I have, I came from over there!!!" he said, frantically gesturing behind him. "How about we talk this through! I don't come from around here, I've been travelling for the past few days, I swear! Just don't attack me!" He said, right hand on his heart.

"Does it matter what direction you came from?" she snapped. "Or that you weren't part of that particular raid? Goblins always mean trouble."
A few of the first fallen leaves of autumn stirred in a cyclic motion as the wind picked up further, but Rissa kept her flame dim, so as to attract minimum extra attention. Her eyes were now about half red and half silver.

((that's partially the point for him, and my other goblin character Fletcher. Fletch, however, comes from a far more tolerating area.))

Viz sighed, dropping his arms and looking away. "Allright, I see this isn't going anywhere productive. Can I just go my way and leave you alone? I'm trying to get somewhere. I'm looking for my kid." He said this quietly, as though he was reluctant to eplain his situation.

"A goblin child?" she scoffed. "I don't believe I care. I hope it was killed by humans, with the number of human children I've seen goblins kill." She spat on the ground. "Better yet, let another goblin kill it and eat it for dinner."
A few of the leaves caught in Rissa's hair, a few other were flying at the goblin. The winds even started to pick up the occasional light-weight pebble as her eyes turned slightly more silver than red now.

In the blink of an eye, Viz had her by the throat. He picked her up of the ground just a little bit, so her toes were barely touching the floor. "I won't kill you. But I swear to god if you say another word about my son, I'll tear you apart so badly your parents couldn't recognise you." He hissed, then dropped her to the ground roughly. "If you feel so damn high and mighty about being a human, then feel free to wish someone who carries human blood harm." He growled, no longer looking calm.

Rissa growled and sent a wave of flame at him that made her eyes flash bright red. "Get away from me, killer."

Viz simply lifted his hand and waved away the flame, what looked like a silvery sheild wavering and coming into focus. when it had appeared fully, it showed itself to be a strange sort of arm-length sheild, with a blade edge on the bottom and a lip that extended a foot past his hand. it was belted to his forearm, and he wore one on each arm. "You, know, it makes me sad that this area is totally populated by people who would judge instantly on my race. If If I didn't allready know that Kleo had walked through here, I'd avoid the country alltogether. However, I have to. So let me pass." He said, holding his arms at his sides.
