Does anyone else feel a little sorry about good ol' Vulcan? for starters, he was yet another product of Hera's envy for Zeus (albeit the only benevolent one), but he was the only physicall ugly god, and when Hera saw his ugliness, she threw him from Mt. Olympus, breaking his legs and making him lame. short end of the stick, huh? What are everyone's thoughts on this?

I agree. Hephaestus was treated quite unfairly. I'm just glad he got her back in the end

Well, he disguised himself as a normal blacksmith, and was commissioned by Hera to make her a chair. He made a beautiful chair, and when she sat in it, clasps appeared over her wrists, and she was trapped. He let her go a while later. |

Hera throwing him was one version, while there is another version which says Zeus threw him from Mount Olympus after Hephaestus had sided with his mother in a quarrel. This legend says that Hephaestus fell for nine days and nine nights, and he landed on the island of Lemnos. It was on Lemnos where he built his palace and his forges under a volcano.
Funny thing about Hephaestus was that he was parthenogenetic, meaning he was conceived without male fertilisation. |
