William gave the door a kick, before letting his shotgun hang on its sling and attempting to smash through the door with his fire axe.

The kick would do little, as would the Axe, only giving William a bad ache in his arms, the door being made of metal...

There were no doors that were wooden that lead out to the Promenade, but William remembered that the Captain's room had a large porthole he could squeeze through, and the door was wooden, the only wooden door in the Officer section...
