Natalie had completely ignored the comment Detective Beck had made about how people would think she was ready for fun. Just what the hell was that suppose to mean? She shook her head and kept driving. If something like that meant that men were going to be bugging her for dates she was so going to be annoyed at it all. One damn drink does not mean she wants a dating frenzy. In fact she would rather not date any of the men she worked around. This one thing with Beck would be the end of it. She was only going because she knew he would not stop bugging her about it. This was the best way to just get it to stop here and now.

The car moved into a spot at the hospital and she flipped the key, turning it off. Unhooking her belt she flicked a look at the man beside her before she popped open the door and stepped out of the vehicle. Nudging it back into its closed postion she really didn't wait to see if Beck was getting out or not and she started toward the hospital. She figured she would have to ask a doc to take a look at her ribs, she was sure they were just bruised, but better to be careful then sorry about it all. Though if they were hurt more then that she would really have to tell her captain what she had been doing and that was not going to be fun.

The door slid open as she stepped up to them and she stepped inside, pausing a moment to toss a look to her side over her shoulder. Why she waited for Beck she didn't know, he knew where he was going and as he got close to her she asked, " Did you need a ride back to the station after this? she figured she would get that question out of the way now and not have to wait around if he didn't need a ride back.

Eddie opened the door and he stepped towards the hospital with Natalie. God, he hated fucking hospitals. Usually, he’d prefer to be in his own bathroom stitching himself up or letting a close ‘friend’ do it. Somehow he didn’t think that Natalie was going to be comfortable going back to his place and getting half-naked to play nurse to each other. At this point he wasn’t sure how comfortable he’d be even. That was a complete joke, there wasn’t a day where Eddie would describe himself as “uncomfortable.”

" Did you need a ride back to the station after this?”

”I could use a lift. As much as I like sitting in a cab.” Eddie pulled his badge out so that it was displayed and then reached to his ribcage to secure the Glock in the leather shoulder holster. There was something wet in there and he hissed sharply in pain. When his hand came out there was a light smear of red on the palm, ”Shit.”

Fingers gathered his jacket and pulled it away from his side to display the shredded shirt and line of torn skin between two ribs. Seamus must have gotten him with that nasty looking blade in the tussle in the tunnel. ”Oh, that’s nice… this means that I’m going to get some stitches and a god damned shot….” That and he was going to loose this shirt, man he just lloooved getting clothing cut from his body. The mind voice wasn’t nearly as sarcastic as it would have been if he spoke outloud.

Detective Beck walked up to the counter of the ER and held up his badge to the nurse there, ”Detective Beck, APD, this is Detective Roca. We’re in need of medical assistance.” As if that wasn’t fucking obvious.

"Paging: Dr Thompson" said a monotone voice from the loud speaker.

Eva had barely been sitting for ten minutes minutes before the page was received. Legally she was entitled to twenty minute breaks, especially after the two hour long surgery she had just performed. Yet when someones life is one the line, you have to be willing to give up a bit of your personal comfort for them.

Generally they tried to shift surgeons around so that they wouldn't have to deal with life threatening injuries in a row. Eva was hoping this was the case tonight. She exited the break room walking quickly, wondering what sort of injury she would be treating this time.

She arrived in time an officer of some sort bleeding and holding up a badge. "Is he the one?" she asked The nurse nodded. "Alright grab a gurney and lets get this man to room number two."

She grabbed onto one side of the gurney and pushed it towards the man. "Alright officer, come with me." she ordered motioning for him to get on the gurney.

The questions about how and why he got hurt would happen in en route to the room.

Eddie pulled of his jacket and dangled it on one hand so that he could inspect the wound on his side as the nurse went to find out. It looked worse than it actually was. This wasn’t a stab wound; otherwise he’d be lying in a pool of his own blood on the floor of the subway. That wasn’t the most pleasant thought. It was a slice wound that carved into the flesh between those ribs. Not too deep, but probably filled with enough dirtiness to give him trouble if it wasn’t treated properly. Properly was not a bunch of whiskey to clean it out in a motel bathroom.

"Alright officer, come with me."

The detective’s brow raised and he turned towards the voice, taking in the doctor for a moment before glancing over to the gurney, ”Hey doc, I’m good to walk if you don’t mind, but I would prefer if you could help Detective Roca first.” …Seeing as how she totally saved his ass and his tendency to pretend that he’s the knight in shining armor. He held out a palm to prompt Natalie to lead them towards the room. Plus, this was just another scar to add to the collection right?

As they entered the room he reached to his waist and pulled at the straps of his leather shoulder holster loose and then free from his upper body. Eddie dangled the gun and clips in the straps and set them on the nearest table before giving a hiss as the stretching skin sent a burning sensation of pain across his wounded side.

Natalie turned as the doc came up with the gurney and a brief flit of a smile came to her lips. They had both walked into here on their own and the doc wanted to take Beck away on a gurney. It wasn't going to happen and she knew it. Beck was tougher then that and she waited to see what would happen. She had not expected him to tell the doc to take care of her first though and she gave him a frown. A couple cracked, she hoped, ribs compared to his slice was nothing and she shook her head as she moved to the room where they would stitch him all up. " Nothing doing Beck, your the one bleeding. Go ahead doc patch him up first. I'm fine for the moment, nothing bleeding here. Just got to have you look at my ribs, might have cracked one or two when a perp kicked me."

Natalie took a seat in one of the chairs in the area very gently, letting out a soft breath as the slight pain from her ribs complained about her movement. She folded her hands over her stomach and watched as Eddie took off his things and set them aside. " You going straight back to the station Beck, or you want to stop off at your place to get cleaned up first? " She noticed his shirt was ripped when he took off his coat or she wouldn't have offered. But what the hell, since she was driving him back to the station anyway, she might as well offer.

Eva took in the information. Why did the macho men always want to walk. Obviously he could walk, but the location of the wound was probably in a place that was aggravated by walking. He was insisting that his female companion be taken care of before he was. Apparently chivalry was not dead. The woman explained that she most likely had broken ribs.

Eva turned to the nurse on duty "How long till the x-ray is available" she asked

"About an hour" the nurse replied after looking at some notes.

Eva took a deep breath before beginning. By nature she wasn't a horribly outgoing, nor was she the type that saught leadership. However when you put Eva in a busy hospital she had no problem bossing others around.

"Well there isn't anything I can do for you till we get an x-ray" she said to the woman.

If it was broken ribs there wasn't much they could do anyway. If she had punctured a lung she wouldn't be standing right now, and wrapping the ribs was only done under the most severe circumstances. The only thing to do for broken ribs in most cases was to take it easy, have some medication to dull the pain, and wait about two months for them to heal.

"You can sit in the waiting room till we can get you x-rayed. Or if it's alright with him you can come with us to the examination room." it was a rare offer. But if this woman was his partner they would probably feel better if they could be in the same room together, for now at least. If she was a cop she could handle being in the room while he was being stitched up.

She turned her attention back to the man. If he wanted to walk she wasn't going to fight him. Eva prayed that his wound wasn't being aggravated by the movement. When weapons sliced through skin they left clean trails, when people attempted to move after such an injury tearing occurred. Not only was it more painful for the patient it was harder to sew back together. Heroic types never seemed to realize that being able to walk does not mean that you should.

The man took off his gun and appeared to be in great pain as he lifted his arm. "Easy" she told the man "Alright get the table slowly and use the step stool. I know you can do it on your own, but I don't want you to aggravate that wound any more then you already have."

Eva gestured to a chair "You can sit here while we take care of him." she said to a woman

Eva moved to the supply cart in the room and fished out a few things that she would need. Without even looking up from her task. "Betsy could you cut his shirt off please." the who had been standing outside the door nodded and grabbed a pair of scissors "After that you can leave. Thanks."

"So officer besides the wound to the head and the side, do you have any other injuries?" she asked

(( Thank you))

Natalie nodded her head in response to what the doctor had said about waiting for at least an hour. She closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the wall to wait. Her breathing was shallow and slow as she tried not to move much at all, for it only caused more pain to slice up her side.

Alright get the table slowly and use the step stool. I know you can do it on your own, but I don't want you to aggravate that wound any more then you already have."

Eddie gave his best, pain free smile and set the shoulder holster within easy reach. The detective was in instinctively cautious. There were plenty of underlings out there that could score a big payday by offing a couple of cops, especially one that was coordinating undercover operations in Aldenville. It wasn’t like he was in charge, but it was more than clear that he wasn’t going to be taking bribes to look the other way. One foot propped itself up on the stool and his arm bore his weight over a palm up onto the table. His shoulders collapsed slightly as he let out a breath and ignored the pain. He tossed a wink in Natalie’s direction and then he leaned back easily on his arms.

When the nurse approached Eddie just lifted up his arms. He couldn’t help himself but say it, ”Couldn’t wait to get me naked, eh?” Not exactly the most original line, but how could it be missed? He leaned to the side slightly, body bending gently as the bloody, shredded t-shirt was cut from the grooves of muscle drawing blocky shadows on dark skin under the pale, sterile light that filled the examination room. God, he hated hospitals, but he couldn’t find fault with too many nurses.

"So officer besides the wound to the head and the side, do you have any other injuries?"

Detective Beck’s bearded face turned towards the doctor and he reached up with his good hand and pointed to the dried blood at his temple from the cut there, ”Met a two-by-four in a dark alley.. I wouldn’t give him my wallet..” Actually, it had been when he was shoved into the wall.. or so he thought. It had happened rather fast.

Natalie gave a little quiet groan as Beck made mention to the doctor about getting him naked. The man was never going to not say anything like that. He had a line of some sort for nearly everything, it honestly was one of the reasons she just didn't see herself as dating him, he had to be the biggest flirt she had ever seen. Giving just a tiny shake of her head as she thought about some of the things she had overheard about him in the station. Her eyes opened so that she could watch the doctor do her job. Natalie wasn't squimish about blood, it would be a bad thing to be nauseated when seeing it and try to be a cop too.

The little smile slipped onto her lips as she listened to Beck mention getting hit by a two-by-four, " And as you can see doctor, it definately did not knock any sense into him at all." she had to tease, she couldn't pass that one up at all. He was reckless some would say, or so she had heard, but he got the job done that was all that should really matter. She did admire that about him. Letting out a litte sigh, she really did hate waiting and this was one of the worst places to have to wait in. There were things she needed to be doing and her cell ringing just about then made her groan. Pushing up a little bit she pulled it from her pocket and looked at it, a frown on her lips suddenly as she answered it. The frown growing as she listened and made soft sounds of affirmation. Giving a sigh she clicked the phone shut and shoved it back into her pocket and leaned back once more. She was in for it when she got back to the station, the captian had heard all about where it was she had been. Her ass was going to be so yelled at.

For legal reasons it was best if Eva pretended she never heard the "couldn't wait to get me naked' remark. Yet she couldn't help but let out a little laugh, it was always better when you had patients with a sense of humor.

"Thanks Betsy" she said waving the nurse goodbye. and moving a stool up to the operation table.

The banter between the two cops was pretty amusing. It was nice to have a few people who were able to act normally despite being injured. It was a strange coping skill you probably had to develop on the job, you can't be a good cop and be frightened by a little blood.

"A two by four eh, they certainly can be vicious. I'm betting the wound to your side was caused by something else. If it was metal you may need a tetanus shot." she said

"Alright I need you to lay down" she said fairly certain it would be met with another wisecrack. Eva put her hand on Detective Becks shoulder to help ease him down into the proper position. She had a feeling he would try to move too quickly if she wasn't there guiding him. She got out a flashlight and quickly shined it in his eyes. "As I thought, no concussion"

Eva turned to the female officer. "I can give you an advil to help with the pain while your waiting. If you want. I'm afraid I can't give anything stronger then that till I get some x-rays." she offered

"Alright get comfortable the next bit isn't going to be pleasant." she stood up and walked to the sink in the room thoroughly washing her hands before snapping on a new pair of rubber gloves. "I'm going to take care of the wound on your side first."

The wound wasn't that terrible but it was in a bad area. The side of someones torso was an area that was moving almost constantly, and it was best to get everything closed up before it could get any more aggravated. Eva was estimating that it would take about four stitches, but the wound was deep and would require cleaning.

"This is going to sting a bit try to stay as relaxed as possible." she warned getting read to swab the wound with disinfectant soaked cotton balls.

Eddie just ignored the jibe from Natalie with a grin and glanced towards the doc when she mentioned the tetanus shot. If there was one thing he hated, it was getting those shots, but he wasn’t going to lie to get out of it, ”I just got one two weeks ago when a junky thought he could fight me off with a rusty nail,” Eddie raised his arm slightly to show the bruise that was still just barely there in a pale yellow, ”Still have the love bite right here, but if you don’t believe me feel free to check my chart..” The detective tried his best, charm slathered smile on the doc.. even if it was just to cheese the moment up to it’s full potential.

When the warm hand was flat on his shoulder and he eased himself down onto the cool paper strip and covered the top of the hospital table. ”You see doc? You’re just making it way to easy on my ass.” Oh, the smile hadn’t left yet, but he wasn’t quite ready to toss out the completely obvious comment there. They all knew where the innuendo should come from.

Instead, his head turned to the side and eyes dropped over to Natalie for a moment. Eddie wasn’t quite sure where he was supposed to put his arms, but he was fairly certain that the doctor wasn’t going to want him aggravating the torn flesh on his side by putting his arms anywhere but loosely against the surface of the table.

When the eyes turned up to follow the light he just gave a smirk, ”Then what do I say to the leprechaun that keeps telling me to burn things?” He didn’t seem to respond to the warning and instead just closed his eyes and took a breath.

Quiet words slipped out to the doctor's question. "No, I don't do pills well, I'll wait, thanks anway doc." There was no more movement from her as she just listened to the talk between the doc and Beck, her lips flipping upward in a smirk at what he said about her being to easy on him but she said nothing at all. She kept waiting for some other kind of comment but it never came and she was slighlty amused that it had not. When Beck looked at her she could not help but send him a bit of a smirk and an arch of brows as she waited. As if to say, what your not going to say anything? As the doc took out her little light and Eddie looked back at her, the comment made Natalie chuckle and then wince as she did.

Words that were only lighlty laced with the pain of her laughing were spoken softly, " Come on Beck don't you know what to do with those little men yet. You hold you gun to their heads and demand that they hand over the gold or you will cap their ass." It was something she had actually heard one of the men at the station say and had found it funny. Well, hearing it now, maybe it wasn't so funny but she let it go as she took a slow breath and moved slowly so that she sat up a little more as the pain was starting to irritate her some. She kept watch of what the doc was doing, glancing at the nurse when she came and went in the room, making sure she didn't stray to close to Beck's weapons as he was now laid on the table getting himself worked on.

"Yea, sdaly innuendo is unavoidable in this line of work." she said. In a profession where she occasionally delivered babies, checked for hurnia's, and had to ask all sorts of uncomfortable personal questions there were a lot of times where someone could make very inapropriate jokes.

" I'd hate to hear the kind of jokes you'd be making with a proctologist." she said with a small laugh.

"Is he always like this, or am I just getting him on an off day." she said to the female detective.

These two were hilarious. It was nice to work with people who had a sense of humor. "Well that would work" she said nodding at the female detectives rather violent suggestion.

While he was distracted Eva quickly moved a cotton swab through to wound. The disinfectant would sting, so it was better if she got it over with quickly. She threw the blood covered cotton swab in the hazardous waste container.

"Sorry about that. Just once more and that phase should be over. " she said preparing the next swab. "Personally I would tell a bunch of children that the leprechaun has marshmallows and let them chase it away."

”Why does everybody have to discriminate against the short people? Addiction to rainbows and marshmallows is a disease, not a choice.” Of course, he would never admit that on occasion he’d found himself at a karaoke bar and sang his own rendition of Randy Newman’s ‘Short People.’ He hummed the tune to himself absently and then let out a long hiss and a, ”Holy testicle Tuesday!”

Despite the pain that rained over his nerves he didn’t so much as give a hitch or a twist in response. He was definitely used to getting hurt and just closed his eyes and locked his jaw against her efforts to clean the torn flesh. The rational outcome of this calculus was that he was going to end up with stitches and an order to stay out of the field until that was taken care of, not that he made a habit of actually listening to those kind of orders.

At least something fun was coming out of this situation.. sitting in a room with two beautiful women and he was bleeding, ”So, tell me you two…. Chicks dig scars right?”

((Sorry it was so short!))

Natalie started to answer the doctors question when Beck gave a, well it really wasn't a cuss but it was close and she tried not to laugh at it. Shaking her head a little but she then replied to the doctor, "Yeah the detective is always like this. You should hear him at the station." she grinned and then did laugh, she couldn't help it, at the next thing Beck said. Chicks digging scars. Where did he come up with this stuff?

With the laugh though came the pain and she pulled in a sharp breath and held it, letting it back out slowly, "Damn it Beck you need to shut up until I can get out of here." Though it was said with a slight smile on her face she never answered the question either. Just closed her eyes and tried to breath as little as possible without that sharp pain stabbing at her again.

It wasn't nearly as long as she had expected though when a nurse came through the door and moved toward her, "The x-ray machine is ready for use, If you would just come with me." Natalie slowly stood, waying to Beck on her way out"I'll meet you in the lobby in a bit." she then very slowly shuffled out the door and followed the nurse down the hallway.
