Month 4, Turn 2800: Early Spring

We are officially Re-opened! Our history has been added to and you can read the happenings of the last 2 1/2 Turns here. We are now accepting characters, including submissions for an adoptable Goldrider at Britten Weyr.

We are in dire need in Candidates for our upcoming Wher clutch and Bronzeriders for a future leadership flight at Britten Weyr. Please check out our information on Dracats and Crawlers, as we have plenty of babies to Impress of each species. You don't necessarily have to be a Britten rider to get a Dracat or a Roush rider to get a Crawler; you just need to have a legitimate reason to be there!

Gold Orliask has taken up residence on the Zimmer hatching grounds. She's being extremely overprotective of her current clutch and no-one is allowed onto the grounds, not even her handler. No-one is sure how many eggs there are, if Orlia knows exactly, she's not telling, though she assures everyone that its a good sized clutch.

I tried to be as brief as possible and only include major events...

2501-F'lar is killed by Fax in the duel and Lessa dies from the blow that Fax struck. The new Hatched Queen is Impressed by Cathera. Her name is Marith.

2502...the Last Pass of the Long Interval. Hath flies Marith, leaving R'gul as Weyrleader. He continues his disbeleif of Thread. Fax, still enraged by the duel, leads a raid on Benden. Two bronze weyrlings, F'rin and T'mon, hear commotion and steal the Queen Egg and a large mottled one and fly to the Southern continent. The Weyr's defenses break and Fax and his men kill many riders, including R'gul and Cathera. and smash all the eggs on the Hatching grounds. This day, 6.14.2502, is know as the Day of Sorrow and Hope among dragonriders and is still celebrated today. F'rin and T'mon discover a large extinct volcano near Drake's Lake and decide to weyr there with their two Eggs, which had suffered no hardship from their journey. Some riders and weyr personnel flee to their hideout, though many decide to stick it out. After Fax's death, some rider still want to protect the North. However, Golden Tarynth hatches and Impresses to Keskia and the weyr is named Moonbow by her, as a hunter and archery enthusiast. Craftspeople trickle in by one's and two's to help out the new Weyr.

Beginning of Ninth Pass (2508)-Thread falls unchecked at Nerat. Hostilities between Holders and dragonriders erupt into full scale war, with some crafts taking sides. After the dust settles, fewer than thirty adult riders have survived to find shelter at Moonbow. The Pass is marked by tragedy. Inbreeding in the dragon population has made the clutches smaller but there are still not enough candidates. Many Hatchlings dies and the Queen's can barely replace what is lost to Threadfall. By the end of the Pass's first decade, the Northen continent is waste. The south is grubbed and things survive, but the grubs do not work as planned. They stop the infestation, but any plant struck is still consumed, the weyr can barely keep there own ground Threadfree. Only about ten percent of Pern's population has made it to the new weyr. Many craft secrets are lost. Health suffers and infant mortality is up while life expecancy goes down.

7.16.2516 Firehead sweeps through the weyr. A group of riders including the Weyrwoman all die painfully when they go /between/ unknowingly. Terala becomes Weyrwoman.

13.3.2551 Lyrensa Impresses Gold Alexith, though she has a young child. (Lyranel, last Weyrwoman of Moonbow Weyr, is a distant direct descendant).

6.7.2553 Most of the weyrling class is lost /between/ during exercises, including the young Queen, Alexith, due to the werylingmaster having a milld stroke and giving his dragon faulty directions.

2.1.2554 This Turns Hatching results in nine unImpressed Hatchlings. Varellia is driven mad by the screams of the dying dragonets, being slightly unstable to begin with. She spends seven years under the care of MindHealers and the weyr suffers without a Weyrwoman. Ivorneth does not rise during this time as she only eat enough to survive, and that barely.

13.28.2558 The Ninth Pass officially ends. The weyr still only has 90 dragons able to Fight Thread. Numbers build up slowly suring the Interval, but the clutches are small and few and there are never enough Candidates on the Sands.

7.28.2568 Varellia goes completely mad at the Hatching and is forcibly retired. Ivorneth never rises again. Sephalia becomes Weyrwoman.

5.23.2596 Seraphith rises but Simeeni does not take Flaieth away. A Queens Battle ensues. Both Golds are lost, Flaieth /between/ and Seraphith to wounds.

5.25.2596 Sephalia dies of heart failure due to the stress of losing the other Queens. Resilith remains with the clutch.

7.4.2686 Brianarth's Gold Egg does not Hatch.

4.18.2697 Selioth is flown by Asaroth. P'fin becomes Weyrleader. The next 24 Truns are stable ones for the Weyr. P'fin is a good Weyrleader. However, Carella is not a strong woman. Selioth's clutches are few and far between, she only lays one Gold Egg during her lifetime and that is in her final clutch.

9.24.2758 Beginning of the 10th Pass.

5.17.2773 Niaranyth's first flight with Drithonath produces no Eggs. They fear she is infertile.

7.14.2774 Calai dies suddenly of a brain anyeuirsm. Jalekyn becomes Weyrwoman.

3.6.2787 Felines attack the Weyrleaders while they are sleeping out in the wilderness, taking a vacation.

3.19.2787 V'rethik and Gilonath die. The Weyrleadership is open.

3.25.2787 Jalekyn and Niaranyth succumb to infection. Lyranel becomes Weyrwoman.

5.20.2787 Smoltath flies Artemth. T'hon becomes Weyrleader.

7.18.2787 Arove Impresses gold Danubeth becoming the Weyrwoman's Second.

10.15.2787 Nine young dragons appear in the sky above Celebration Cove, gray with exhaustion. After investigation, these nine dragons are what is left of the weyrling class that disappeared in 2553. The Queen, Alexith, is one of the surviving dragons. With her come bronze Aijith, brown Timurth, brown Meinirth, blue Thaboth, blue Lorcanth, green Yukikoth, green Euriath, and green Naokith. Alexith's rider, Lyrensa, is now Weyrwoman's Second.

10.24.2788 Alexith rises to mate and is flown by bronze Reloith, bonded to T'tarel.

1.7.2788 Alexith's 16 eggs Hatch. Only one dragon dies unImpressed.

4.11.2788 The Gather at Moonset Hold. At the Gather, many people seem to be sick with a strange coughing illness.

4.17.2788 More people fall ill with the same coughing that was seen at the Gather.

4.20.2788 The first dragonrider falls ill.

4.22.2788 A harper seen with the illness at the Gather dies.

4.27.2788 More people die and a dragon catches the disease. Panic sets in as people realize that the dragons can fall ill, too. Holds are quarantined and the Weyrs close to everyone. The only time they come out is for Threadfall. Some selfish holders begin to blame the dragonriders for passing the disease, even if they are protecting Pern from Thread.

7.18.2788 Lyranel dies, making Lyrensa Weyrwoman of the disease-stricken Moonbow Weyr. T'hon is also ill and in the most deadly stage of the disease. It is likely that he will die, too. It seems only the Timelings are immune, as neither Alexith nor the rest of her clutchmates have fallen ill. Alexith's Hatchlings are well protected, kept far away from the others, and have not sickened.

10.30.2788 Almost half of the weyr is ill, including some of the Timelings.

11.14.2788 A scout is sent to find a temporary weyr for Alexith and her weyrlings, along with Reloith and a brown named Odinth.

12.3.2788 Lyrensa and T'tarel find a cave system near a small volcano that has ceased to be active. Alexith's Weyrlings have been trained to fly and go between by L'ken, the only remaining kin of deceased Lyranel. Gold Alexith, bronze Reloith, brown Odineth and 15 Weyrlings blink between, not to return to Moonbow Weyr for at least 5 turns. The new Weyr is named Britten Weyr, after a beloved Harper from Lyrensa's time. Lyrensa is the new Weyrwoman of this 18 dragon weyr, with T'tarel as Weyrleader. L'ken is appointed Weyrling Master and Candidate Master both. His gold Kelahna and a few of her recent clutch are the only firelizards allowed at Britten Weyr to assure the disease is not spread.

7.3.2789 Harrowed by the ordeal, Alexith does not rise to mate again until the eighth month after arriving at Britten Weyr. She is again caught by bronze Reloith, continuing T'tarel's Weyrleadership.

7.7.2769 The Weyrlings from Alexith's first Clutch are considered graduates, becoming both the last Weyrling Class of Moonbow Weyr to graduate and the first of Britten Weyr.

10.15.2789 Sedine Impresses Gold Telemaith, making her the Weywoman's Second.

3.20.2790 While Reloith and T'tarel are away with the Searchwing, Alexith rises to mate. She will not listen to Lyrensa and does not contact Reloith to let him know she is rising. She is caught by brown Vartanth, making T'juon the new Weyrleader. Upon his return, T'tarel is furious, but agrees to mentor/advise young T'juon.

6.15.2790 Alexith lays her Clutch of 10 eggs, disappointing a great many in the Weyr.

7.3.2790 Alexith's 10-egg clutch Hatches. Vartanth redeems himself with the Hatching of gold Lizalith, a lemony color. She Impresses to Aertia.

13.8.2790 Junior Queen Telemaith rises to mate. She is caught by bronze Septoth, making H'del Weyrsecond.

2.16.2791 Senior Queen Alexith rises to mate. She is caught by bronze Reloith, restoring T'tarel to Weyrleader.

5.19.2791 Alexith lays her Clutch, a startling 38 eggs. All of the eggs seem to be paired up, as markings and images on one egg will appear on another in a complete negative.

6.19.2791 Alexith's clutch Hatches. There are 2 Queens, one pale like her mother and the other a vibrant red-gold. There are also 3 bronzes, 4 browns, 5 blues, and 24 greens. Right from the start the Hatchlings gravitate towards their siblings in the "twin" eggs, having similar personalities, always with one dominant over the other. The Hatchlings are split into two Weyrling classes (Black Wing and White Wing) due to the large number of dragonets and to avoid the submissive half of the pair automatically agreeing with whatever the dominant half did or said. L'ken teaches one half, while his weyrmate Aergin, the new Candidate Master, teaches the other half. The Weyr's dragons total 106 dragons: 42 adults and 64 Weyrlings.

9.20.2791 Fueled by the exceptionally lusty Flight of green Meenath, Junior Queen Telemaith rises again, the following day. She is caught by bronze Quanth to the dismay of H'del, making N'ty Weyrsecond.

11.7.2791 Telemaith's first Weyrlings, the Brown Wing, first chews firestone. Unbeknownst to the new Weyrling Master, A'xir, Darshana does not give her green, Avanith, any firestone, but instead hides it in their pack. She continues to do this any time the lesson includes chewing firestone. She wants to know if firestone really does affect a dragon's ability to Clutch and is determined to find out herself.

13.1.2791 Telemaith's clutch Hatches. Yet another Queen is Hatched, gold Esenth, Impressing to Gizem. The Weyr's dragons number as follows: 52 adults and 75 Weyrlings, a total of 127 dragons.

3.13.2792 To everyone's surprise, Avanith takes her own stance on the Hatching Sands with a Clutch of 6 small eggs. Darshana is sternly lectured, but not punished so that they do not alarm the Clutching green and cause her to abandon her eggs. Unlike the green firelizards, no one knows if green dragons will be good mothers or if they will abandon their eggs like the firelizards do.

4.3.2792 Avanith's clutch Hatches 5 blues and 1 green, all healthy and regular-sized.

4.11.2792 Senior Queen Alexith rises to mate. Before Sedine can stop her, Telemaith also rises. There is a terrible fight between the two Queens and Sedine blacks out at the flood of emotions: lust, anger, jealousy, and pain. Alexith goes between and does not return. By visualizing skies without the golden Telemaith, pale Alexith ends up Timing it once again to a few Turns later. Telemaith is caught by Septoth again.

8.25.2792 Telemaith's 40-egg clutch Hatches.

4.11.2795 Gold Alexith appears from between. Lyrensa is the first to know, suddenly feeling the presence of the queen. She immediately calls for healers to tend to Alexith's torn wings and gashes from Telemaith's talons. Once the pale gold is fed and taken care of, the whispers start among the weyrfolk. The question comes up: Who now is the Senior Queen and who is the Weyrwoman? Over the next few fortnights, many fights break out in the weyr between people loyal to Sedine & Telemaith and those who believe that Lyrensa & Alexith, as the founding Weyrwoman and Senior Queen and the oldest queen, should lead the Weyr.

8.2.2795 Once Alexith's wings have healed, she rises to mate. Wisely, Sedine removes Telemaith from the premises. Alexith is chased by all the bronzes of the Weyr and a handful of browns. In the end it is bronze Septoth who catches her. The position of Weyrleader is then secure for H'del no matter which queenrider is decided to be Weyrwoman.

8.25.2795 It is decided to split the Weyr into two to avoid rebellion. Lyrensa is reinstated as Weyrwoman at Britten Weyr and Sedine will be Weyrwoman at the new Weyr, Roush Weyr.

12.13.2795 Alexith's clutch Hatches. Bronze Tubath, the only bronze, Impresses to a girl named Arielle, daughter of the Lord Holder of Forest's Edge Hold.

12.14.2795 Telemaith rises over Roush Weyr for the first time and is caught by bronze Ioneth, making M'xel Weyrleader.

2.18.2796 An egg stolen from Roush Weyr Hatches at Britten Weyr into a greenish-golden dragon named Hinath, who Impresses to Anmia.

2.20.2796 Telemaith's First Clutch Hatches at Roush Weyr.

The second Hatching at Roush Weyr produced several bronzes, browns, blues, and greens. But when Sedine gave birth to twins, male Alden and female Lenda, the Weyr suffered. For many months the Weyrwoman struggled to hold onto life, weakened by the birth. During this time, Zipporah led the Weyr to ruin, causing the deaths of many countless riders in Threadfall before being consumed by what was said to be a stray clump of Thread. Anissa and Myrath went between after the pair in an attempt to save them, but in following them, they, too, were lost. Sedine had the Weyr all to herself again, with only Astera and her clutching green to provide the Weyr with dragons while Sedine lay on her sickbed and Telemaith never rising to mate while her rider's life hung in the balance. But the petite Weyrwoman was not one to bow down to such an insignificant thing as death and so recovered, with her orange-gold queen rising to mate six months after her rider had given birth. She was again caught by M'xel's Ioneth, securing the Weyrleadership, and has been caught by him each subsequent rising, bringing the Weyr back to fighting numbers.

At Britten Weyr, things also did not bode well for the leadership. A turn and a half after this second Hatching at Roush Weyr, Lyrensa took an unfortunate spill down a staircase within the Weyr, breaking her leg and one of her toes. Though the leg was properly cared for, the toe developed an infection in the bone which resulted in the Weyrwoman's demise. Her second, Aertia, stepped up to the position and her queen rose to mate two months later. She was flown by bronze Illtydth and produced a large, healthy clutch even with the interval fast approaching. But four months ago, D'fydd was killed in Threadfall when a weyrling ferrying firestone sacks came out of between right on top of the Weyrleader's dragon. The weyrling and his blue survived, though neither escaped injury, but the boy killed himself two sevendays later because of the guilt that followed him. Now the Weyr waits for Lizalith to rise again so that they again have a Weyrleader. In the mean time, all of the Wingleaders and bronzeriders have stepped up to support the Weyrwoman and try to complete the duties that their late Weyrleader would have.

Zimmer Wherhold has not suffered the same tragedies as its sister Weyrs. The whers have led a relatively peaceful existence, though their numbers are still painfully small. Orliask's runs have yet to produce another clutch, but hopes are high for this last run, which was said to be exceptionally long and trying. With Lindask as the father, the Wherhandlers are certain that a clutch will finally result and they can strengthen their numbers again.
