Let me lie here,
gentle, undisturbed,
until the autumn leaves blanket me
with crunchy orange.

I want to stay a statue,
forever
a stone monument until the vines
grip me and softly force me to a
state of crumbling neglect.

Can I be peaceful? I find myself
continually drained by these feuds.
I want to blend in with the guardian trees;
I want to stand solemn and quiet.

Let me lie here,
weary, restful,
until the winter snows settle over me
with radiant white.
