What Are These Native Species?
Originally, they were only Aryian, Bloodback, Whiteback, and Chicotah. However there are new additions and changes with the joining of Narcissus.
The Aryian Wolves
Aryians are the forefathers of all packs originating in Ruritia before the joining of Narcissus. After years the wolves branched, and their branches branched. So on and so forth. Aryians are peaceful and calm. They rule the richest parts of the forest with the most prey. Aryia is the largest pack, but they are weak being so peaceful. All know how to fight instinctively, but for centuries the pack has never had to face a war. Sheer numbers aide them though, as does their loyalty towards one another, and the courageous decisions their leaders must make every day. Typically, the Aryian wolf is light-hearted and usually happy. They have little worries and may even be a little naive. They love to hunt, and they love to sing about the smallest of victories. Bloodback is their close ally and often are welcomed into their lands for hunts.
The Bloodback Wolves
Bloodbacks received their name from a genetic pattern of the coat. A dominate gene - a dark blood to rust red blankets the back. It can either take up the whole backside or just come in a small streak. Five out of six puppies will have the pattern. These are the hardy mountain wolves of the land. When Aryia split, these are the wolves that climbed the steep, iron-rich red mountains that bordered the forest. Over time they evolved to adapt to their new home with large paws that can grip the unbalanced rock, and thick claws to lock them in place. Although taller than the Aryian wolf, they would seem awkward in their build, more girth and muscle than height. They are extremely agile for being so large, and this is not a well known fact amongst other packs, thus a huge advantage for them. Bloodbacks are utterly loyal to eachother. They consider the pack a family more than a conglomerate of different wolves. Any of them would be willing to stand in the face of danger and risk their life if it was to save another, to save the pack. Bloodbacks are also very suspicious of outsiders, and never has it been easy to be part of the pack. As is tradition, the Alphas will always send newcomers on a test to prove their worth to the pack. These wolves are extremely intelligent, and are quite used to fighting with their Whiteback neighbors. War is their art. And Aryia is as protected by them as is their own pack.
The Whiteback Wolves
Whitebacks are simply long-ago outcasts of Bloodback. As the genetic trait of the blood red of the Bloodback's coat, it too a turn and mutated stark white generations ago. Due to past conflicts, the wolves with these different coats were cast out; exiled into the far north peaks of the mountains. The originals barely survived the harsh altitude and cold, but they did, and the small pack had been started. Whitebacks are the smallest species, even smaller than the modern day arctic wolf. Their pack is small and often squabbles amongst themselves. They are fierce without reason, some of the meanest of the wolves around, but not exactly "evil", as some may put them. They are simple angry and misunderstood. Despite their small size, their are superb fighters and can match their Bloodback rivals tooth for tooth. Though not as agile, being small means getting into tighter places more easily. With the recent war between Whiteback and Bloodback, the Whiteback's victory won them new lands that were once rightfully theirs, and forced an uneasy truce between the two packs. Now with warm climates and more prey to hunt, it is inevitable the pack will start to grow. Whitebacks are fairly intelligent, but more witty than anything.
The Chicotah/Greystrom Wolves
Before the invasion of Greystrom, it was only Chicotah. A hateful breed that found joy in death, pleasure in soaking the earth with blood. Breed from a last attempt of vengeance from angry whitebacks, and left to die in the wastelands of the Savannah, then raised by fierce Sabres. These wolves know only hate and war. Every generation has been taught the hate against the Aryian wolves for abandoning them like weak cowards, however, they have never had the numbers to attack them. Although the largest, most powerful of all the wolves in the land, they have a fatal flaw. Because of their forefather's breeding and how they were raised, they have a horrible immune system and are easily killed by common illnesses. Big cat's milk made them strong and grow fast, but cats milk is meant for kittens, it contains enzymes and nutrients kittens need to grow, not pups, not wolves. So, depleted of essential vitamins and nutrients, their internal systems have always been weak. Because of this, the pack is all about selective breeding. It is not always the alphas who breed, but perhaps the alpha and a low ranking wolf, depending on traits, genetics, and physical build. Mates rarely exist in this pack as the pack doesn't even coexist with eachother half the time. Readily another member will kill anyone who steps too far out of line. There are no warnings. Alphas usually rule the pack like a tyrant. But Chaos is all these wolves know, and probably all they ever will. Chicotahs are not the brightest, but they are extremely tricky and sneaky. Masters of ambush. Grestrom, the invading pack, is not much different and blends into the pack perfectly.
