Greetings friends,
I've been in contact with the Volunteer Coordinators at the Powerhouse Museum regarding us costume volunteering in the upcoming HP exhibit.

The exhibit is opening in November, and instead of having a museum curator from the Powerhouse, they are bringing one with them, which means it's a little more difficult for us to costume.

According to the Vol Coordinator, they should know some details in the next 2 weeks, about what sort of volunteers the exhibit will need, and whether we will be needed for special events/openings/general volunteer work.

For those of you who Costume volunteered at the Star Wars exhibit a few years back, you know what to expect. For those who didn't, trust me this is a great chance for us to show our house colours and do the club proud. If we are allowed in, we will need to do perhaps a day of museum training, to go through the policies/procedures, and to get our security passes.

The Vol Coordinator has promised to keep in touch and will let me know what gets decided, when it gets decided. So! For now, all I can say is it's in development. They are very interested in having us costume for the exhibit, and if they can get us in, they will.

It'd be great if they do allow us to be a part of the exhibition. Doing the Star Wars show was great fun. But even if they don't ask us to help out, I reckon we should organise a Billywigs group outing to the show... cool.gif

Just wondering - anyone from another state planning to visit Syd for this exhibition? If so, when?

@Dashy - We're planning on coming up for the exhibition! We don't know when[I] yet, though. Probably after Christmas. (Realistically, it will probably be a spur-of-the-moment decision & we'll fly up one day and fly out the next!)

Yeah, for sure! Well, if you decide on a date, we'll work around that smile.gif

The final word:

The museum volunteer coordinators have advised that they are not allowing volunteers to work inside the HP exhibit rip.gif At all. Regardless of whether we're in costume or not.

They have instead hired more gallery officers to staff the exhibit, and will probably require more (Casual work, just during the exhibit itself). The job is on the government jobs website if anyone is interested in looking.

I'm so sorry guys, I was really hoping we could volunteer for this one, it would have been so much fun.

In a last ditch effort to get something costumy happening for us, one of the Vol coordinators has forwarded our details to the marketing department in regards to costume volunteering for openings/special events. I hope this gets some response, although I will say I'm not holding my breath. I'll chase them up a little closer to November just to make sure.

We can still attend, but it will be as paying members of the public.
Kind regards... I really did try my best on this!

I found that the Harry Potter people were extremely negative towards costuming and fan groups with regards to events, as when I was dealing with the film company about us doing a theatre appearance, they said NO. The local distributer was very keen to have us but the movie company decided against it. So it doesn't surprise me that the Powerhouse has not taken up our offer. I reckon they were just told by the film company the same NO that I was given. It is a shame as having the costuming groups at the Star Wars exhibition was not only fun for us but made for an incredibly more exciting event for the public. Oh well....

On the subject of the meet up, we really should wait to see when our interstate friends will be coming to Sydney and try to coincide our "Potter Day" with their visit...

I REALLY want to get down there at one point. It'll probably be around Christmas, if I do.

AHHH! Our favourite band everever is playing Laneway (*cough* The Horrors *cough*)!! Since we HAVE to come to Sydney & go with a friend, we'll kill two birds with one stone.

That's the 5th of Feb, so we'll probably go to HP on the 4th! Harry & Horrors in one weekend! GAH. Life can't get better!!
