" If you could touch the alien sand and hear the cries of strange birds, and watch them wheel in another sky, would that satisfy you?"
The First Doctor

"You'll find there's so much else to think about. To remember. Our lives are different to anybody else's. That's the exciting thing, that nobody in the universe can do what we're doing."
The Second Doctor

"So be careful how you tell that story, will you? Don't glamourise it. Don't make war sound like an exciting and thrilling game."
The Third Doctor

"If the square on the hypotenuse equals the sum of the square on the other two sides, why is it a mouse when it spins? Never did know the answer to that one."
Th Fourth Doctor

" Of course, you and I both know that at the end of a millennium they'd still be tapping out gibberish."
The Fifth Doctor

" Oh, I thought you were my mirror image Until I realised I wasn't the one holding a gun."
The Sixth Doctor

"Yes, that's right, you're going. You've been gone for ages. You're already gone. You're still here. You've just arrived. I haven't even met you yet. It all depends on who you are and how you look at it. Strange business, time.n."
The Seventh Doctor

"Grace, I came back to life before your eyes. I held back death. Look, I can't make your dream come true forever, but I can make it come true today!"
The Eighth Doctor

"You just want to drag the stars down and stick them underground, underneath tons of sand and dirt, and label them! You're about as far from the stars as you can get!... And you took her down with you."
The Ninth Doctor

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but, actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff."
The Tenth Doctor

" Amy Pond, there's something you better understand about me 'cause it's important and one day your life may depend on it: I am definitely a mad man with a box."
The Eleventh Doctor

"Kidneys! I've got new kidneys! I don't like the colour."
The Twelfth Doctor

"No. Great men are forged in fire. It is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame. Whatever the cost."

So you think you got what it takes to fly with an Alliance Privateer? Then welcome to the Ares Shield thread.

Background (in brief)

Though only making one appearance in Firefly (The Message), Joss has stated that Womack would have been a reoccurring character, but, as with the series itself, we never saw him again...until now. The Bad Lieutenant is a crooked cop that takes jobs/orders from Alliance and criminal alike.

In this thread, you will be on both sides of the law...and above it all.

Roleplaying Specifics
  • Although Womack only had two cronies in The Message, in this thread we will be looking for a crew of seven (7). In addition, the Ares Shield is a military boat, with a full compliment of ship-to-ship and ship-to-ground ordinance, as well as passive defensive systems.
  • Positions Available:

(see Casting Call - in the Application thread)

  • Like Serenity, the Ares Shield will be working with some of the same RP enhancers unique to this board:

All of the Ares Shield's communications, avionics, and computer systems are run by the Ship's Onboard Avionics and Repository Systems (S.O.A.R.S.). The S.O.A.R.S. interface will be a pinned, moderator controlled topic(S.O.A.R.S. is a trademark of Jonestein Productions Inc.).

The "Ares Shield" userid is a moderator controlled, non-speaking character in the story capable of injecting plot twists via sensor alerts, incoming Cortex waves, and malfunctions, all accessed via S.O.A.R.S.
Inaugural Story Arc

Lt. Womack and crew have been commissioned (by Alliance Command and one of their underworld bosses) to catalogue and ,if possible, cripple an underworld crime boss's operation before it can assume the 'Verse spanning power it once had. The perp's name...Adelai Niska.

I knows I'm just visitin' on the Shield, but I'm spendin' most my time in the Infirmary and thought I'd give y'all a tour.

Standard Alliance Patrol Ship Infirmary

(Posted Image)

What ya see is pretty much standard for long haul ships, but Alliance can afford far better 'quipment than most civvie ships.

FEATURES

3 Triage Tables: Labeled for convenience in emergencies (We don't got none o' those on the Ares Shield, thoughs. Don't you worries about that.)
- Mag-locks can be released to move tables. Height adjusts 26 inches up or down.
- Easy-Sterilizing foam covers.
(The Triage tables are actually purty comfortable. Just ask Damian Malone and Catri Ryan. They been sleepin' on em for weeks.)

Medical Computer: Standard Med-encyclopedia with total access to Med-Acad files and research facilities. (No Cor-Net access though. I sure'd love to watch the newscasts in here or listen to music!)

Medical Imager: Standard Med-Imager: X-Ray, Ultrasound, Geno-scan, CT, and NMRS (nuclear magnetic resonance scan). No DNA analysis. Gotta run that through the forensics computer on the Bridge.

Sterilizer: Standard radiation sterilizer for equipment. I'm gonna run Liam Brown's clothes through it while he's still unconscious, I thinks they needs it.

Head: Efficiency toittie and sink, Folds right outta the wall. Curtain's okay, but only hangs to about 24 inches off the ground. Not so private. Not that matters to me, but sometimes does to the others.

Supply Fridge: Seperated into two sections- Refrigerated meds like insulin, and plasma and the like on the left. Protien drinks, TPN, NN, and the like on the right.
Top shelf is Restricted Meds. Need thumbprint ID from either Lt. Womack or Lt. Bell to get in there. (I gots Lt. Womack to open it for me when he was gunshot and mostly-unconscious. He doan' remember, but if he'd been wake, I know he woulda done it anyways to help Officer Lopez. I kept outs a thing or two 'case I needed them.)

Standard Equipment List:
Basic Surgical
- laser saw/cauterizer
- suction unit
- oxygen
- scalpels
- clamps
- extractors

Emergency
- Defibrillator
- Laryngoscope & tube for endotracheal intubation
- Adrenalin
- Tracheotomy set

Basics

- Stethescopes
- Sterile gloves
- Suture kits
- Syringes
- Jet-injector gun (See Marlowe's Weapons thread for Dr. Chee's med-injector. Ours is almost the same, 'cept takes smaller vials)
- Spare scrubs & surgical caps (All in Mens sizes. What's up with that?)
- Sterile Towels
- Surgical dressings
- Gauze
- Cotton
- All kinds of braces, wraps, cervical collars, etc.
- Quick-set fiber-tape for casting broken bones and the like.

Pharmaceutical

-Standard painkillers from Aspirin to Alprazoline
-Anti-inflamatories
-Anti-biotics
-Anti-virals
-Analgaesics
- vaso-dilators
- corteosteroidals
etc etc...there's alot of stuff in this cabinet!

Non-Medicine Chemicals
- Isopropyl Alcohal
- Iodine
- Epsom Salts
- Ammonia Salts

I's sure I'll remember more things we gots in here, but I didn't want nobody suddenly makin' stuff up that we don't gots. I thinks we gots LOTS.

Oh, Double doors slide open. They have real good airlock seals in case of a hull breach, which is kinda handy when there's really bad men on the ship lookin' for us.
