In your mind, you can picture your Original Character...now let us 'see' them.

If you could 'cast' the role of your OC, who would play the part:
NOTE: Please check the OC Casting List pinned in the RP Applications Forum, your casting choice may already have been taken. Please choose your casting wisely- Once in play, any changes to your character's casting will need the approval of the entire Admin Team.

What BDV ship/location do want to be assigned to:

Route 66, MSE more specifically

Character Name:

Nolan Moore

Character Occupation:

Aspiring detective

Gender:

Male

Age (the character, not the actor/actress):

30

Detailed Physical Description (2 PARAGRAPHS):

Nolan is 5'8", with a head of fiery red hair and pale blue/gray eyes. He keeps his hair on the longer side, it tends to almost get in his eyes. He is muscled, having devoted a decent amount of his time to personal fitness. He usually has the dusting of a beard and mustache. His skin is very pale and he has a few light freckles on his face.

Nolan usually keeps to professional clothes while working. Slacks and button down shirts, with ties. Everything according to modern fashion's dictates. When he's not working, Nolan wears jeans and plaid button downs. He loves working boots, clean socks, and white undershirts.

Detailed Personality (2 PARAGRAPHS) :

Nolan is a good guy. He's quick to smile and he always tries to make those funny and witty jokes, though he tends to just end up bumbling and making people laugh that way. He's a hard worker, always putting in time and patience to see something through to it's end. He hates leaving loose ends or leaving projects unfinished. While he enjoys working in office settings, Nolan is a physical man who likes to be doing things.

Nolan generally gets flustered in "in the moment" situations. He likes time to make decisions, and being rushed or feeling pressured can cause him distress and make it harder for him to think. He over comes this by taking a few moments to gather himself. But, he is a logic over instincts type of person.

Detailed History(2 OR MORE PARAGRAPHS):

Nolan Moore was brought up on Bernadette, not too far from New Paris. His father owns a successful steel company, allowing the Moore family on the edges of the upper crust, but usually just high up in the middle class. Nolan went through all the proper schooling, including university where he graduated 5th in his class. He spent years working within his father's company, as had been expected of him from birth. His father was a staunch Alliance supporter in the war, Moore Steel Industries being one of the companies that provided the Alliance with the steel and finances they needed.

Nolan's life had been going according to plan. He dated a woman, Annemarie, whom was the daughter of one of his father's close friends, for 5 years before they got engaged, when he was 26. The engagement lasted for 2 years while the society wedding was arranged. On Annemarie's birthday of the second year, Nolan took the afternoon off to come home early and surprise her. He arrived at their modest apartment located a few miles away from his father's house to find his lovely fiancee in bed with his best friend.

After that, Nolan's seemingly perfect life wasn't so perfect after all. He found himself not fitting into his father's company so seamlessly. He couldn't focus and he was unhappy. So, he left the company and went to stay with his uncle. His uncle was a detective with the New Tombstone department. Nolan found new hope and purpose there, helping out his uncle with his cases. It inspired him, and brought back some piece of him he had lost in the monotony of his old life. While his uncle couldn't provide him with any work, he had heard that the space station Nolan had seen floating in the sky, Route 66's MSE was looking for more detectives. With that, and the passing of his 30th birthday, Nolan decided it was time to get going out there to begin a new chapter of his life.

Strengths (1 paragraph):

Nolan has common sense. He's grounded, good at thinking through puzzles, and generally very logical. He's good with numbers and technology from helping his dad. He is very trusting and he cares about others' well being.

Weaknesses (1 paragraph):

Nolan needs time to think things through, he gets flustered and has trouble making decisions in pressing situations. Also, he has lived a sheltered life. He has come across few hardships or struggles. Most things in life have been handed to him for no reason of his own.

Sample Post: (3 paragraphs minimum/Third Person Past Tense): Please use the Big Damn Verse Styling Guide to format your post.

It was July 17th, the birthday of the woman he was going to marry, and Nolan could not be happier. It was about 3 months before the wedding date and it could not be soon enough for the 28 year old. He had wanted to marry Annemarie two years ago, when he proposed, but their parents would have none of that, so Nolan had agreed to wait. That and he wanted everything to be perfect for the woman he loved. Just thinking about her inky black hair and her brown eyes made him smile. He had been planning this birthday present for months.

He had arranged for Annemarie to spend the day at the spa, getting pampered. He was heading home early to sprinkle their bedroom with rose petals and he was going to cook her her favorite meal. When she returned, they would eat in candle light and he would bring her along a trail of rose petals through the house to take her to their bedroom, where he would give her her gift of a necklace made with amber stones brought from the Earth-that-was which matched the brown of her eyes. He had stashed the necklace in his sock drawer, where he always hid jewelry he bought her. Nolan could not wait to see Annemarie's beautiful face lit up at each stage of her present. He was humming happily to himself and he walked up the steps to their apartment building. He had to do a retinal scan to get through the door, then head through the lobby to the elevator.

Nolan stood in the elevator humming, impatient to get his plans underway and full of excitement. He hurried through the doors when the elevator opened and headed to his doorway. He had to enter a series of passwords and another retina scan to get in, but he soon passed through the doorway. He hurried through the rooms to their bedroom, impatient to get changed so he could begin working.

But, when he threw open the door, Nolan found that his fiancee was not enjoying a relaxing spa day. No, she was instead sitting naked astride Jackson, a man Nolan had called his best friend since they met at university. Nolan noticed that the amber necklace he had bought was resting around Annemarie's slim neck. He stared at them for another half second while his fiancee and best friend stared back at him, frozen in shock. Then, he closed the door, turned, and began walking away.

As he walked out he could hear them both scrambling about and shouting after him, but Nolan didn't process the words. He wasn't really thinking at all.

The only thing Nolan Moore knew was that after 7 years of a committed, monogamous relationship, he was single again. And nothing really felt the same.

Good job, I call this accepted.

One tiny nitpick: Route 66 wouldn't have been in the sky all of his life, as it was originally out somewhere on the Rim under a different name. A few years ago he would have seen it in the sky under construction and it only opened in the last 6 months or so. I realize the thread's been open for years but that's just how I roll (slowly).

It doesn't really seem likely that someone who owned
QUOTE
one of the main companies that provided the Alliance with the steel and finances they needed
would be
QUOTE
just high up in the middle class

Given that the less canon a character creates, the easier it is to approve them, you might want to just drop the latter descriptor if the former describes the family background the character is supposed to have.

Other than that, I'd say it looks good here :)

How about just a small company who aided the Alliance , not a major player, just a minor one? I didn't realize how ambitious the company sounded with that line.

That's pretty much what it sounded like the character's backgraound was. It's just that that line wasn't consistent with it, and would have affected canon much more if it were true. This would make the character much easier to approve.

Sorry about not actually editing the post sooner, I have not been around my computer. That line was edited, I actually edited some other lines that made the company seem larger, but somehow that one just slipped in. Now it is just a company that helped the Alliance.
