Character Name: Kaylee Frye

Detailed Physical Description (2 paragraphs): Kaylee stands at 5'5" and is 123 pounds. She has brownish redish hair and her eyes are a dark brown. Her eyes she got from her mother, and her hair, no one knew who she recieved that trait from. She's average height and wheight for a person her age..well, for a woman at least. She's not super skinny but she isn't fat at all. Like I said, one word: average but cute. Most people see her as CUTE. They don't look at her and see: Smokin' hot. Naw, that's not like Kaylee. Her hair falls just below her chin, making it a rather short cut.

Kaylee wears overalls and a floral designed shirt underneath, the sleeves cut just at the elbows. She's seen as a tomboy, and she doesn't flash her body or anything like that..unless she really wants to. But when it's a special occasion like some sort of wedding or ball or whatever, she has frilly dresses that she has stored in a small trunk by her bed. She wears pajamas like anyone else and she isn't too girly wear she wears mini skirts or anything. I mean, who wears mini skirts in an ENGINE ROOM? No one.


Detailed Personality(1-2 paragraphs): Kaylee is irrepressibly cheerful, and has an innate knowledge of machines and how they work. Prior to her job on Serenity, she worked with her father when he had work. The quickest way to get on Kaylee's bad side is to malign Serenity. She dotes on that ship, and say one bad word about her baby, and you're likely to get attacked by Reavers, snatched by hill-folk, or stabbed a whole lot. In her off-hours, she enjoys spending time with Inara in the Companion's shuttle, and the two are close friends. Nothing seems able to keep Kaylee down for long. Even when she is sent on scut-work missions, she'll find a bright side, be it taking on passengers or new used synchronisers. She is passionately loyal to her captain, whom she adores, and she is treated as resident little sister (méimei) by Mal, Inara and even Jayne.

Unlike the rest of the crew, Kaylee has a hard time handling herself in a firefight. She is willing, but not quite yet able to overcome her fear of combat situations. She is most at home in the engine room, and can usually be found wearing a pair of grimy canvas coveralls over some shiny flowered or spandex girly top. Kaylee likes ruffles and bows, and (appalling) layer-cakes of dresses of questionable taste. She's awed by Inara and Simon's fancy manners, but also sees them as having little place out in the black. Kaylee is no shrinking virgin. She appreciates good old fashioned sex and has few or no hang-ups. However, she's only had her eye on Simon since he and his sister stepped on board, and she seems willing to wait for the good doctor to make the first move. She has grown very fond of River, and the two have a very sibling-like relationship. Kaylee was badly spooked when she witnessed River shoot and kill three of Niska's men in cold blood. She knows that River saved her life, however she was frightened by the change in River, and how the disturbed young girl likened it all to a game.



Detailed History(2 paragraphs): Kaylee Frye was born in 2497, to her parents Limai Frye and Junixin Fyre. Both were happy loving parents and they adored their daughter. Limai was her bubbly mother and Junixin was a mechanic for ships that came through their planet and landed nearby their house for her father to fix up their broken engines and the sort. Kaylee was amazed at this handiwork at a young age and her Dad took notice. As the little girl was growing up, she always loved to fix little things like broken toys or help her dad. But hey, she IS a girl ya know. The one thing, the one food that Kaylee loved the most, and STILL loves, is strawberries.

When Kaylee was around the age of 11, her father set off to go to another planet to work on some of the ships there that had been in dire condition. Kaylee didn’t know the name of the planet, and she still doesn’t because she was such a young age and she didn’t understand the concepts of all the planets that were in their galaxy. But while her father was away for nearly a year, Kaylee was still trying to help her Mom around and she enjoyed having the laid back life of being a kid. So all in all, Kaylee had a pretty normal childhood. When her Dad returned, he began training her in the ways of mechanism. Kaylee fell in love with being her Dad’s helper in mechanism and she loved to see how engines worked and what different parts of ships meant.

When she grew out of the grasps of childhood and was 20 years of age, Kaylee was out in the front of her house when a ship landed something horrible in front of her. She could tell that there was something wrong with the ship so she examined it for a bit after someone wasn’t able to fix it up and she correctly fixed the ship, much to her, and Mal’s surprise. But being a mechanic was her passion. She didn’t even know if the ship would turn off after she fixed it, but sure enough, it worked, purring like a cat. Kaylee was quite proud of herself. Mal asked her if she’d like to come aboard to be their mechanic and Kaylee just lit up and ran back to ask her parents if it’d be ok and they said yes and their goodbyes. It was a bittersweet moment, but it was what Kaylee wanted.

She went aboard with the members of Serenity and gladly took on her job of mechanic. Since then she has decorated the dining room so it is a much more prettier environment and it feels a lot like home.


Strengths (1 paragraph): Kaylee is a Mechanic and she loves being one too. She often gets work done on time, and if she doesn’t, she does it last minute. She is also good at arranging décor in the dining room!


Weaknesses (1 paragraph):
She gets nervous easily but tries to maintain her bubbly personality. She is easily worried about her fellow crew members if they run off and try to do something dangerous. But she knows what they do is what they do and there’s no stopping them.

The boat shook lightly and Kaylee stirred from her sleep, rustling the hammock that was in the Engine Room. The engines had been acting up lately and Kaylee didn’t want to be responsible for some woolly mess. The light brown eyes fluttered open after a small debate with herself whether or not she wanted to wake up. Lazily standing up as the boat rocks a little more violently, Kaylee’s hand flew up to hold onto her hammock. Steadying her balance, the bubbly young mechanic walked hurriedly to the pressure gauges to see what was going on. ”All shiny here.” Then what was the whole fuss about? Groaning, Kaylee searched everything before turning around.

Going on to the engine main, Kaylee’s eyes examined the problem as she flipped a few switches. A gorram loose screw. THAT was their problem?! Kaylee shook her head and took out the correct tool and fit the screw back into place and the engine purred and Kaylee nodded. One loose screw on this boat and the whole thing could come apart. ”If that happens again when I’m asleep, We’ll fall right outta the sky.”

And if the whole thing came apart, it would be because of her. That was enough motivation to get Kaylee doing her best work. Screws coming loose, bolts coming off, it was a hectic business. If one thing was out of place, the time is ticking until it’s only a matter of time before someone gets injured. That was what Kaylee lived for-being a mechanic. Yawning, Kaylee decided to congratulate herself. Making her way happily into the dining room area, the young mechanic delighted herself into some strawberries. Ahh, rewards, they could never be better. Resting her chin tiredly on her open palm, Kaylee figured that the others were still asleep. She’d tell them of her exciting escapade of the loose screw tomorrow. She was sure that they’d appreciate it that she kept them all safe. Kaylee snickered at the thought and finished off the last strawberry before resting against the back of the chair she was sitting in.

There were nine people on Serenity and Kaylee had done a darn good job keeping their ship running smoothly. Sure, she wasn’t the best mechanic there was, but she liked to think that she was! But a part of her still missed her parents and her home planet. It was saddening to be homesick. But that never got Kaylee down. She had to be the adorable one of the group. Walking back to her hammock, the woman laid down, swinging back and forth on the hammock, glaring at the engine room. ”Now ya’ll don’t give me any trouble. I don’t want to be up all night fixing gorram screws.” She mumbled, as if the engines could actually hear her.

She slowly closed her eyes and turned her head to the side, drifting off to sleep. The boat rocked, more peacefully than it did earlier and she could tell that the whole boat seemed to be sleeping. Kaylee was already lulled into a peaceful sleep, thinking about strawberries, flowers, the sort. Oh, what a night.
