| QUOTE | "Magistrate Higgins, this is Sister Catherine. We have located your son, and he appears not to be infected with the disease. Unfortunately, there have been incidents triggered by the plague conditions, and your son has been injured, but he is under the care of Doctor Adelwulf, who is very experienced at the treatment of such injuries, and Doctor Bardier as well. We are on Black Island, and assisting in the distribution of vaccine and relief for the sick. We will transport your son home on our shuttle, and I shall place you in contact with him at the earliest opportunity. I am sorry that I could not give you entirely good news, but I believe that together, we shall overcome these hardships."

Injured.
Higgins played the message back twice, his heavy eyelids blinking. He was tired, but no doubt less weary than the good Sister who had bested him.
Somehow, he trusted Sister Catherine. Surely, Fess's injury could not be serious if the Sister didn't seem concerned. For a long moment, he thought of his son, tall and lanky, like his mother.... with her eyes as well. His son. His only son. No. Fess was all right. There was no sense weeping now. There was work to do.
He triggered the com and recorded a message to the Sister before turning back to the supervision of the reports that were incoming from around the Moon- statistics of sick, dead, living, what supplies were available.
| QUOTE | "Sister Grey, thank you for the news of my son." He smiled wearily to let her know his next words were a jest. How many times had he said them without thought, words a father should never say to a child, "I'm sure he only injured himself to get out of the work that needs to be done.
But truly, I am grateful to you for finding him. Tell Dr. Adelwulf that he will be adequately compensated for his services. And tell Fess... Tell him I'll see him soon."'
He glanced at the report in front of him, "I assume either Gentry or Katherine How is managing events on Black Island. You can tell them I have a jet-runner boat loading right now with a handful of vaccinated workers, including two of your Sisters of Perpetual Mercy. They have some nursing training, and will be enroute to Black Island within the hour. "
|
Switching off the com, Magistrate Higgins stood and stretched, then took the reports out into the yard, directing the few workers available before rolling up his sleeves and personally loading the Estate's private supply of medicines into a mule for transport to South Plains.

::ADMIN PLOT PROGRESSION:: --------------
The JetWave Runner appears as a white streak against blue water and blue sky.
Loaded with Mudders Milk, protien, and the Sisters of Perpetual Mercy, it glides swiftly through the shallow bay and onto the pristine sand.
Aid has come to the remaining survivors of Black Island.
In desperation to save Fess's life, and that of young Saul, last inheritor of the volcanic island, Dr. Adelwulf makes the decision to fly them, along with Blodwyn, back to The Hippocrates II, dropping Benjamin at the quarantine landing zone to retrieve the other shuttle and return for Sister Catherine and Ebony with the intention to return to the ship as soon as they've ensured aid is distributed.
