Episode 1: “Shiny Cop/Ruttin Cop”

After spending time off-ship in search of ETW contraband (see off ship RPs of “Too Hot to Handle, Too Cold to Hold” and “The Sky is Calling” for details), Lt. Womack orders the Dancer landlocked. Lt. Bell locates a warrant on Tam, River before leaving to infiltrate the Dancer. Outside the Grendel, Womack is approached by Officer Zenobia Tildara, newly assigned Tac. Officer to the Shield in order to take the place of recently injured Corporal Edward Hightower. As the Dancer lifts off, Womack orders all docked ships landlocked and sends Marlowe and Zenobia to Serenity.

(Linking to Persephone-“A Not So Religious Experience”)

Chou Zeng Ushi is sent by employer Mordicai Lamp to locate an unknown older male, presumably on the Dancer. Womack denies any specific knowledge of the Dancer’s inhabitants and, pointing out that the Dancer is already in the Black, convinces the assassin to leave before calling his crew back to the ship.

Episode 2: “To Swerve and Protect”

Moments after the showdown at the Eavesdown Docks, the entire crew, minus the concussed Hightower, is on-board. Zenobia meets Cory for a conversation requested by the latter, who proceeds to subtly seduce the Shield’s new TO. Lincoln “Lync” Lopez, Womack’s right-hand, joins the crew. Both men walk in on Cory, nude, and Zenobia, clothed but uncomfortable; this intrusion causes Zenobia to storm out and bury herself in work, bringing her across arrest warrants for River and Simon. Despite their masks, she realizes they were in Inara’s shuttle, though lack of concrete information prevents her from passing this suspicion on. (See “Too Hot to Handle, Too Cold to Hold) She sends a wave to Inara, subtly confirming her suspicions.

After initial introductions, during which Cory gets dressed, and a short briefing, Lync and Womack depart as Zenobia returns to Cory’s room, hot chocolate in hand. The seduction continues with small talk and sharing of life-stories as Womack and Lync observe via hidden camera. Cory mentions a future op-taking down sadistic crime lord Adelei Niska-and earns Zenobia’s promised cooperation. Womack orders Marlowe to watch Zenobia, who is undercover for reasons unknown to the Shield’s crew.

Upon discovery of Zenobia’s wave, Womack bursts in on the women, declaring the TO’s wave was sent in disregard of proper protocol. She apologizes, revealing who she sent the wave to as well as her suspicions regarding River. Orders come from FedNet Dispatch, sending the Shield to Jinye, in pursuit of Serenity.

Once the ship lands on Jinye, they work out details of the op. Lync will go in, posing as the buyer for the unknown ETW artifact. Womack, Cory, and Zenobia act as paying customers. Upon requesting an upstairs room, they will await Mal’s arrival with the Lassiter.

(For off-ship RP of Womack, Bell, and Tildara, see “Quiet Night at the Heart of Gold.” Marlowe can be found slinking around “Heart of the Matter.”)

Zenobia and Cory return to the Shield on Lync’s bike. They return to the Heart of Gold, Cory flying the ship, and bring on Lync, Catri, and Womack, all wounded. Accompanied by Shanti and Damian, both civilians agree to stay on board until Catri heals, Shanti providing medical aide for the crew. Marlowe is picked up and brought to the infirmary as well. That night, Womack dreams of Niska, still a ghost he cannot touch.

Ares Shield Episode 3: Reputations

With the return of Cpl. Hightower and the addition of Allied Marine Mancoon Krylin to the crew, Lt. Womack calls a meeting to reveal that the Ares Shield's mission is to take down crime lord Adelei Niska.

After the meeting, he calls Damian and Shanti into his quarters and reveals to them that Niska was responsible for the death of his lover, Scarlet. To take down Niska, he requests the aid of both civilians, Damian for his understanding of the sadistic mind, and Shanti as a witness - to help the rest of the 'verse understand that the Shield is doing good.

The Shield arrives on Bellerophon in The Dingle undercover - all Alliance markings gone and her crew out of uniform. They are almost immediately approached by a strange man who states that a Matilda Van Mertens has requested the presence of Zenobia, Cory and Edward.

Pissed that their cover is blown, Womack beats the man called Liam nearly to death and is about to shoot him in the head when Hightower draws his weapon and stops him.

Shanti remains behind on the ship with the wounded Liam and Catri. Marlowe stays behind too, uncovering Shanti's identity as an escaped slave on the run. Womack, Damian and Krylin head to Frisco to get some intel and Cory, Zenobia & Edward go to the Van Mertens Estate.

-At the Van Mertens, it is revealed that Zenobia's father was none other than the recently deceased head of the Van Mertens family. Her half-sister, Matilda, is forced to reveal that Zenobia is listed as the heir to the entire estate.

- In Frisco, Womack, Damian and Mancoon meet up with IAD Agent Tiberius Khan, who enlists their help in shaking down his informant, Bugger Jones. They walk in on a heavily armed drug deal and beautiful mayhem ensues which requires *ahem* ironing out.

- Van Mertens- Matilda suspects that her late father as well as her fiance were murdered by local Lord Akhilesh Telegenya (or something close to that). They decide to set a trap for Telegenya and coerce him to reveal his guilt. To resolve the matter, a duel is set.

- In Frisco, Womack recieves a call. From one Detective Sandoval - who is none too happy that Womack's stepped on his toes and his terrority. It's revealed that not only is Sandoval at the Ares Shield, but he has the code to open the doors.

-Bloody mayhem ensues, and while Marlowe puts up a good fight, she is outnumbered. Two of Sandoval's men attack the 'helpless women' in the infirmary and fail, but leave the still injured Catri and frightened Shanti shaken and unable to withstand Sandoval's brutal attack.

- Womack, Tibby, Mancoon and Damian return to the Ares Shield in Tiberius' pea-soup green P.O.S. hover car (Do we still have that piece of crap in the cargo bay????) with the hapless drop-head cortex jockey Bugger Jones as their prisoner.

- Sandoval is in the process of torturing Shanti for information when Womack and Damian arrive, saving her and Catri. *YAY!* ermmm... Womack and Sandoval have a nice chat in which Womack tells Sandoval that he's got Bugger Jones as a witness that Sandoval is stealing from Niska- Sandoval not happy, but goes away. For now...

-Sandoval gone, Womack returns to infirmary. In a tender moment, he requests Shanti's forgiveness for putting her in the way of danger, and takes her from the bloodstained infirmary to his room where she can rest and heal in peace.

Womack, Tiberius and Master D. procede to interrogate the prisoners - both Liam and Bugger - in their own unique ways. It's charming. :) Then the Gang heads off to take down Niska's supply warehouse in a bloody firefight with grenade launchers and really big guns. Well done, Kids!

-Van Mertens: Cory and Zenobia finally 'seal the deal' as it were,(and well, it's hot...) the night before Zenobia's duel with Teletubenya. Zenobia wins the duel with a first-blood strike, but Telephoneya goes mad-dog and tries to backstab her. In a pivotal moment for Cory YoSaffBridge Bell, she draws her gun and fires, killing him.

-The episode ends with a Flashback to the beginning of the episode, revealing Cory and Womack's intimate "involvement" with each other, and their secret plan to not only remove Niska from power, but to replace him --- with Officer Lincoln Lopez as the crime lord "Mister Mei Mei".

Ares Shield Episode 4: Hard Time

Hard Time begins on Silverhold, in the small cattle-town of Lincoln, with a little R&R for the crew in the form of a horseshoe game, a bb-q with real steak and watermelon, and a few bawdy jokes while they await the arrival of their new medic, Israel Pasalewe.

Things turn serious soon enough as Pasalewe yells at Damian. Only Womack's quick intervention coupled with Catri's appearance in the cargo bay prevent Shanti making a bid for freedom amidst the fields of Lincolntown- and results in her making a promise to herself that she's sure to later regret.

Womack reveals that their next intel requires Tiberius, Mancoon, Marlowe and Zenobia to go undercover in the nastiest prison in existance- Andersonville on Krane Penal Moon. Their targets? An ugly pair of vicious fighters known as Adam and Evil Man, both surgically altered for the fighting arenas.

As he contemplates the hell he's sending his people into, Womack is confronted by Hightower, who questions his motivations, knowing that Scarlet wouldn't like the path that he's placed himself and his people on.

When Womack doesn't answer, Hightower leaves him alone to visited by the ghost of his beloved Scarlet. Only to her does he admit his true motivation.

Before briefing Zenobia and Marlowe on their part of the mission, Womack and Zenobia again come to an uneasy truce. How long will this one last?

In only a short time, Tiberius, Mancoon, Zenobia & Marlowe are prepared and transfered, in chains, to the ship that will take them to Krane Penal Moon. Behind them, the ship seems too quiet, the ones who remain behind holding worry and fear in their hearts, Miss Cory Bell more than the others.

(It's of note here that even though Zenobia's sister, Mathilda, called shortly before the mission Zenobia said nothing of the mission, or the danger that she would be in, instead acting purely "the big sister".)

Andersonville:
I do not have the words to describe this utter brilliance. (and just trying to write the gorram summary brought tears to my eyes!)
Instead, I give you:

Lastly, and perfectly, on Serenity:River Gets the Message Through

Meanwhile, onboard the Ares Shield:
Israel Pasalewe discovers blood testing equipment in the Infirmary autoclave and goes to Womack. Concerned that someone is doing DNA ident testing possibly to uncover Cory's identity, they confront Shanti. When she admits that she was experimenting on her own blood, Womack is satisfied, although she conveniently sidesteps Israel's question of what she was testing for.

Damian and Cory have a little chat about taking down Niska, resulting in Cory requesting Damian's help to prepare her for what she might face if Niska captures her. Damian agrees, but before they can act on it, the Ares Shield gets a call from Adelei Niska himself.

Womack, in his fury and grief, kinda loses it. Cory steps in and diverts Niska's attention, hinting that she's an Operative and will be the one undercover on Krane Penal Moon.

Meanwhile, Bugger Jones, surveilling Andersonville, gets kinda wrapped up in the happenings there and intervenes by opening the doors: Riots, blood, madness, and Reavers all ensue.

It soon becomes apparent that Niska's mission is partly a distraction, as Bugger & Lync come under attack, forcing them to flee for their lives, but not before Bugger transmits the happenings at Andersonville as a pirate broadcast.

Womack and Hightower plan to go into Andersonville, but Womack, having a moment of doubt, admits the reasons for Shanti and Damian's presence to Cory and enlists her emotional support. There's kissing. (Oh yes, indeed.)
Pasalewe interupts them, and there's more kissing.

Aftermath: Womack, Hightower and Pasalewe enter the prison to rescue the undercover agents and return with Zenobia's childhood friend, Mouse, who is grievously injured. For the first time, Shanti and Israel are forced to work together to save a life, leading to a mutual respect between them.

Unfortunately, the quick resolution to the prison case derails Damian and Cory's plans for a "session", as Zenobia returns sooner than they had anticipated. Shaken by her encounter in Krane Penal Colony, Tildara relies on Cory's love to see her through. I think there's some kissing...

Shanti, shaken by the events herself, makes a decision and goes to Womack intending to trade her favors for his help. Lost in his thoughts, he temporarily confuses her with Scarlet's ghost, revealing more of himself than he intended. Shanti explains that she wants to go home to Jinye, but can't until she knows that no one is searching for her. Womack agrees to alter her official records, but in return asks her stay with him on the Shield until he can personally make sure that Sandoval won't find her. There's kissing... but I promise this isn't a kissing story.

As the weary refugees from Krane Penal Moon leave the Ares Shield a mysterious beautiful woman pauses to thank Womack for his help. With the unknowing aid of the Ares Shield, the second lieutenant of Adelai Niska has escaped Andersonville, escaped the undercover agents, and walked away undiscovered.

In summary: "Hard Time" leaves us with the knowledge that Womack has kissed two of the women and at least one of the men on the Shield.
