Title: The Ares Shield - Theme Song
Description: ...every good thread should have one

GrimJack - January 12, 2007 04:47 PM (GMT)
Our 'Songs of the Big Damn 'Verse' thread got me thinking...shouldn't each of our main 'shows' have a theme song?

I mean The Ballad of Serenity starts every episode of the BDS on the right note...ahem.

I propose we find, through the process of diplomatic elimination, a 'theme song' for each of our 'shows'.

The first show to get a theme song...

The Ares Shield

I've got two possibilities...

Lake of Fire (Nirvana Unplugged)
I thought it was both 'twangy' and hard...like The Shield

Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go to a lake of fire and fry
See'em again 'till the 4th of July

I knew a lady who came from Duluth
Bit by a dog with a rabid tooth
She went to her grave just a little too soon
And flew away howlin' on the yellow moon

Where do bad folks when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go to a lake of fire and fry
See'em again 'till the 4th of July

People cry and people moan
They look for a dry place to call their home
They try to find some place to rest their bones
While the angels and devils try to make their own

Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go to a lake of fire and fry
See'em again 'till the 4th of July

Johnny Cash...need I say more

God's Gonna Cut You Down

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's done in the dark will be brought to the light

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down

My vote goes for any Nirvana song. Big Damn Rock Gods!!!!!

Though Lake of Fire is a Meat Puppets song that Nirvana covered along with Plateau and Oh Me

Yeah I knew it was a cover, but I just thought that Cobain's voice combined with the unplugged nature of the performance sounded like Firefly.

And you're right...Big Damn Rock Gods they are :)

Oh I completely agree and the middle solo of Oh Me always makes me think of Firefly. Other songs I like for firefly:

Chilliwack- Fly by Night
Neil Young- AAAANYYYTTHHHIIINNNGGGGG

hmm... that wasn't as many as I thought, but definitely check 'em out anyone who hasn't.

I have to sheepishly admit that I've never heard the first one.

I was actually listening to Johnny Cash's "The Man Who Wore A Badge" alot during the recent bout of Brandt postage... Always LOVE the Man in Black!

Lately, though, when I key up The Shield for some reading, I automatically turn to my Queen collection and, "Hammer to Fall"

Here we stand or here we fall
History won't care at all
Make the bed light the light
Lady Mercy won't be home tonight yeah

You don't waste no time at all
Don't hear the bell but you answer the call
It comes to you as to us all
We're just waiting
For the hammer to fall

Oh ev'ry night and every day
A little piece of you is falling away
But lift your face the Western Way
Build your muscles as your body decays yeah

Toe your line and play their game yeah
Let the anaesthetic cover it all
Till one day they call your name
You know it's time for the hammer to fall

Rich or poor or famous
For your truth it's all the same (oh no oh no)
Lock your door the rain is pouring
Through your window pane (oh no)
Baby now your struggle's all in vain

For we who grew up tall and proud
In the shadow of the mushroom cloud
Convinced our voices can't be heard
We just wanna scream it louder and louder louder

What the hell we fighting for?
Just surrender and it won't hurt at all
You just got time to say your prayers
While your waiting for the hammer to hammer to fall

It's gonna fall
Hammer..you know..hammer to fall
While you're waiting for the hammer to fall
