Sean leaned up against the back up the bar, infront of the shelves of all the liqour. The cubbies were playing right now, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. They were up by 2 in the middle of the fifth, just coming up to bat. Sean smiled, making the cigarette he was smoking perch percariously on his lower lip. He cheered as Soriano put one over the left fence into the bleachers.

"Good start if you ask me, eh JayJay?"

"Yeah, it is Mike. Let me get you your usual."

Sean greeted his good friend Mike Gagliardo, who always got a Sam Adams Lager. He walked over with the cap popped and set the glass down so he could talk to his friend. Except Mike laid down his money and finished the beer in about 3 minutes. Said he had a work meeting and he just needed a drink. Sean just laughed and leaned back against the cahsiers counter, the cigarette still hanging out of his mouth.

Mikayla walked into Biji's Grill and Bar, heels clicking on the hard floor. She knew she stood out- not many women came in here. Not that there weren't some, but none like her. Besides, she wasn't even a sports fan.

What she was, though, was bored. Tired of her usual hang out spots. Plus, she didn't want to run in to anybody she knew in the regular bars she went to. All her so-called 'friends' were annoying as hell, with hardly a thought for anything but money and sex. Or who's hooking up with who.

Of course, it seemed that way with her, too. But Mikayla was pretty good at hiding stuff. Or acting- either one.

She headed straight for the bar, and pulled herself up on a stool. She motioned at the bartender for a beer. No little fruity drinks tonight. But a small price to pay for some peace. When she got her drink, she drowned half of it quickly, then scrunched up her nose a bit. No, not what she prefers, but oh well.

Sean had one earphone from his MP3 player in his ear as he watched a new girl come in. She looked like a definate uptown chick. He shook his head as he grabbed the beer she motioned for, uncapping it and setting it on the bar. He chuckled as she scrunched her face up. He didn't know why she didn't ask for something she was used to...ah well. He was just supposed to serve.

"Takes a bit to get used to those."

He yelled with everyone as the cubs got another man into home, making the game 5-3 them. He smiled and then leaned back against the bar, headbanging slightly to the music. He was a metalhead. He was wearing a faded UnderOath T-Shirt as he sat there. He figured she wouldn't listen to any of that stuff. Probably listened to all that party music stuff. Sean wouldn't know the first thing to do at a club that played stuff like that. Him and his friends were all into the underground scene. Most of them were members of the Chicago branch of FSU. Sean had a Tattoo across his chest displaying his gang membership.

"So what brings you out of the fancy clubs with the fancy martinis and music?"

He said, smiling and chuckling at the same time.

Mikayla set her glass down on the counter with a loud thud, making the liquid slosh in near the rim. She only shrugged to his comment, lost in thought. People yelling pulled her out of her trance. She gave a small eye roll at their behavior. It wasn't like they were winning anything. Well...then again, they did if they placed bets. But still, she didn't understand the enthusiasm.

"The fresh air, the wonderful atmosphere, the quiet setting," she said, sarcasm obviously evident. "But mostly because life can be boring, so you need to change it up a bit." She had never been here, only passing to go to some club where mindless people who were more than a bit intoxicated like to rub against each other. Pathetic, really. But she went there, so what can be said of her? She thought more along the lines that business was good there, not that she was pathetic. She wasn't one for low self-esteem.

"Haha. I can appriciate that."

Sean said, shaking his head at her first remark, chuckling slightly. He grabbed the money ontop of a bill that a few costumers had left. He counted out to extra 5 dollars as tip, and pocketing them, entered the money into the register. Sean grabbed a bottle of Disarono off the shelf. He poured it into a small glass with ice and ginger ale. He tok a good gulp of it and smiled at the burn in the back of his throat.

"Well, you want to change it up, you definately wanna come to a sports bar with not a woman in sight."

He hit the off switch for the MP3 player in his pocket and slid the earbud into his pocket. He looked at the girl at the bar. She could be cute...if she were wearing a metal t-shirt and some tight cargos...and maybe a ponytail. Sean smiled at himself and looked at the girl. Still trying to figure her out. She went to all those uptown clubs to be with her friends...and then just happens to come in here. Odd world after all.

"How's that beer hitting you? Want me to make one of those fancy martinis? I'm just as good as those flair guys your used to...without the flair part."

Mikayla picked up her glass, drowning the rest in one gulp. She was prepared for the taste, so it was getting better. "That's the plan," she replied. Honestly, she didn't care what people thought. Or how they viewed her. Besides, she would much rather stand out than blend in, any day.

She shook her head, grinning a bit. "No thanks. Might as well go with the flow of things. I don't do things halfway." Actually, it wasn't all the bad here. Despite the T.V. and sports crazed fans, it was more quiet than her usual hang out spots. With all that loud music and people yelling over the music trying to talk, you could hardly hear yourself think. Especially when you hang out a bunch of gibbering, shallow people who talk way to much for their own good. About things that did not interest Kayla.

Looking up from her glass, where her gaze was before, she said, "I'm Mikayla." Might as well start a conversation, as she had nothing else to do.

"Always good to have one of them..."

He smirked in his smartass way. He might actually like this girl. She's not like the other ones who come in here after being in one of those clubs and just make fun of it. Or don't get the point. Sean looked over at the T.V. The game was ending. Fast 3 innings. He smiled. 7-3, final score. About five people walked over and laid down various amounts of money, ranging from 20 dollars to 250. He was good with betting. He pocketed all the money and continued his conversation.

"Haha, I like that. Atleast you're willing to try. Most of the girls like you that come in here are always complaining about how we don't have this 500 dollar bottle of wine or this or that or the other thing. It's great to finally have a deviant."

As the tabs and money stacked up as people left the bar, Sean put the money into the cash register, pocketed the tips, and balanced out the set. He'd gotten all the math right. His mind sort of stopped as she said his name. Wow, she was actually interested in a real conversation. Interesting...very, very interesting.

"My name is Sean. But my friends call me J.J."

Mikayla smirked. "Most girls like me? I already have a stereotype." Of course, it didn't offend her. He was right on the money with that one. Maybe.

"Well, what do you expect when you come in here? Some people just don't use their brains like they should." People like her, as it were, expected to have everything they wanted. When you don't get it, as in this case, its the buildings fault. What a laugh. But being part of that whole society hides yourself somehow, something Mikayla liked to do.

She watched as people went up to him, cash in hand. Ah, so there was betting involved. "Not bad in one night's work," she commented. Then she grinned. "How the hell do people get J.J. from Sean?"

"Amen to that."

He said, raising his glass slightly. They really didn't use their brain. So much for the high and mighty members of society being...well...high and mighty. He took a sip from the glass and set it down, pulling another cigarette from his pocket. He lit it up and set the open container on the bar along with the lighter incase Mikayla wanted one."

"Yeah...it is."

Sean laughed at her question. It was the one EVERYONE asked of him. They always laughed at the story. It was how it's supposed to be, and even though hehated it at first, he's grown to it and loves it just as much as most. He leaned back against the cashiers counter.

"Well, my middle name is Evan, which means John. Sean does too. So, John John. J.J."

Mikalya reached the few inches across the counter to grab the lighter and cigs, quickly lighting up. She took a drag, exhaling smoke while nodding as a form of thanks. This was so much better than the aftertaste now in her mouth from the beer.

She just shook her head at his explanation. "Cute," she said, a slight smirk turning up the corners of her mouth. It was an odd nickname, no matter what explanation there was.

"Do you do this every night?" She tapped her fingernails with the hand not holding the cigarette against the counter, in an uneven rhythm. Her eyes glanced up to the T.V., yet another game coming on. A re-run, most likely. Obviously that didn't catch her interest, so her eyes flicked back to the space in front of her.

After she took and lit a cigarette, Sean grabbed the package and lighter. He pocketed both. He placed his own cigarette up to his mouth and dragged on it more, tapping the ashes into an ashtray as he blew the smoke from his lungs. He didn't care what the surgeon general said. Everyone dies eventually.

"Glad you think so."

He leaned foward on the bar once more ash she asked him about his work schedule. Well, never had a girl ask him that one before. He didn't know if he should be happy or afraid, or indifferent. Ah well, what harm could it do? Unless she had two very large bodyguard types able to crush him without another thought.

"Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Where do you work?"

He followed her eyes to the TV and back to the bar counter itself. Well, she didn't seem to like sports. Sean wondered what she did actually like. Obivously not beer and sports. She liked cigarettes it seemed, however. Ah well. Women are mysteries...

Ah, she should have known that question was coming. There were a variety of ways she could answer that simple question, but just decided to pick the easiest. "I don't have a job." Never have, never will, she thought.

It was kinda hard to get a job with her background. Besides, she had no use for a real one. Her 'parents' gave her money when she asked, if for some odd reason she was low on cash. Although, she wasn't one for swallowing pride and asking for money, either. But, they gave her money anyway. Try to make up for their guilt.

Instead of ending the subject, she felt she needed to explain a bit and said "My family gives me money. Not really wanted, but I'm that stupid to refuse." A half truth, about her family, but oh well. She was good at lying.

(Sorry for the wait. This weeks been demoralizing because it finally dawned on me that I'm going to the third toughest highschool in the U.S.A.)

"Well, aren't you lucky?"

He gave his smartass smirk and continued dragging on his cigarette. This girl was interesting. Now if she was only into xbox...nah...that would never happen. Atleast Sean thought. But with all the curveballs she was throwing, she just might. The thought made his smirk stay up a little longer before turning into his smile. Every girl he knew said it was charming. He just thought it was a smile.

"Well ain't that a shame."

Sean laughed. It was his real laugh, it was loud and usually instigated laughing from the other people. No one usually commented on it being stupid so, he kept with it and didn't try to hide it. Suddenly, his phone beeped. He had a text. He pulled it from his pocket and flipped open his env3 and looked at the text message. Party at Ian's place tonight starting at midnight. Gonna be booze and hot girls man, come on. -Bryan Sean texted the quick reply of, I'm in before returning to Mikayla.

"So, what do you do when your not out with your friends at those clubs or having people follow you wherever?"

(It's ok! Good luck smile.gif )

Mikayla gave a soft snort. Lucky? She wished. If only things were simple like the lie she just told. "If it pays the bills, then I guess I am lucky, right?" she answered back, with a shrug. Now that she thought about it, maybe there was a stroke of luck somewhere. It could be way worse. Gotta be the optimist.

"Yes. Such a shame." A hint of sarcasm showed in her tone. She took a sip of her drink as he answered a text he got. She wasn't much on phones. Sure, she had one, but rarely used it. Most of the time she just left it at home. What ever happened to face-to-face human interactions? A lost cause.

"Well...let's see. I steal things, do drugs, murder people in my sleep, do a little business in prostitution, and generally cause chaos. What do you do?" she asked, an innocent smile plastered on face. Again, sarcasm was evident, which made Mikayla give a small chuckle at herself. How ironic. Besides, what she does during the day wasn't exactly full of excitement, and she wasn't much on talking about herself.

"Nothing as exciting as that."

Sean laughed a little more before walking around the bar and towards the door. He turned the sign to closed (They closed up for a few hours between the afternoon and when the kitchen ran.) and walked back to Mikayla. He pulled out a stool and sat down. Everyone in here cleaned up after themselves so there were a whole ton of dishes in a number of trays that the dish washer will have to deal with later that day.

"Anything that interests you other than all that exciting criminal activity? Not saying there's anything wrong with it, but you oughtta have some down time."

He smiled slightly as he tossed his bartenders apron onto a rack behind the bar. He pulled the cigarrette out of his mouth and tapped the ashes into a tray before blowing the smoke from his lungs.
