The Tale So Far

September, 1741:

Madre de Dios, a Spanish galleon loaded with gold, is on her way back to Europe with her convoy. But an ambush lies in wait for her in the Inaguas – the Sea Hound is planning a bold assault on the larger ship, her pirate crew willing to risk it all for gold and glory. Name: Feliciano Artur da Rosa

Nickname/Alias: sometimes "Felix", sometimes "Rose" (English versions of his names)

Age: 38

Gender: male

Rank/Occupation: looking for work in Tortuga / on Sea Hound

Appearance:

Medium height, muscular, fit. Once dark brown hair that is now mostly grey; dark brown eyes; smooth skin. His upper lip is in a slight, perpetual sneer which makes him seem arrogant or aloof.

Dresses in simple but good quality clothes appropriate to whatever his current job. Doesn't like ornamentation or fancy things.

Personality:

Confident, adventurous, often needs to try his hand at new things. Economically he has a secure life, knowing he can always return to his estate in Portugal, so he has a relaxed approach to most things and people.

He had no particular plans or thoughts about the future, and focuses very much on the present. This to varying degrees makes him reckless, unambitious, spontaneous. He likes teasing people, doesn't care very much what they think of him. But he is likeable, easy to get along with, and knows how to interact with people to advance the goal of the interaction.

Also see skills and weaknesses listed below.

Bio:

Born in Portugal to a Portuguese father and English mother. The family owns land that is used for agriculture, mostly to produce and trade figs, almonds, and oranges, but they also operate a small vineyard. His father died when Feliciano was eleven, and his mother moved back to England with her four children. The estate was handed over to the care of extended family.

Joined the Royal Navy at fifteen. Advanced to the rank of lieutenant, later resigned at age twenty-seven. Went back to Portugal to take over the management of the estate that he, as oldest son, had inherited. Business was, and is, generally good. At age thirty-two he wanted a change of pace again and joined the merchant navy.

With the merchant navy he was introduced to Brazil and ended up settling there for a while, working as a merchant or administrator. Part of what drives him is a taste for adventure, and part the wish to make money that can be invested back home in the estate.

More recently he came to the Caribbean via Spanish South America. He ended up in Tortuga and is now looking for something new to do.

Birthplace: Family estate in Portugal

Family:

Mother: living in England (English)
Father: deceased (Portuguese)
Two sisters, one married in England, the other joined a convent in Portugal.
One younger brother, who now manages the estate in Portugal.

He has no children, wife or lovers.

Skills:

- adaptable, adventurous.
- knows how to treat people to get what he wants.
- skilled swordsman, decent with fire arms and rifle.
- competent merchant, administrator, sea officer, (to a lesser degree) farmer.
- speaks English and Portuguese, some Spanish, some French.

Weaknesses:

- doesn't indulge in common pleasures like drink, gambling, etc. Some find this odd or suspicious.
- enjoys provoking people, doesn't really care what others think of him.
- not generally a nice person.
- not afraid to die, which sometimes make him reckless.

Anything Else:
