Welcome to Beat to Quarters, a Play-by-Post Text Roleplay set in 1741. It's the Age of Sail, and also the Age of Piracy here in the West Indies. Will you fight for King and Country and uphold the law here at the edge of colonial civilization? Or will you pillage and plunder to your black heart's content? The wind's a-blowin' and the sea awaits, so prepare for adventure...
September, 1741:
Madre de Dios, a Spanish galleon loaded with gold, is on her way back to Europe with her convoy. But an ambush lies in wait for her in the Inaguas – the Sea Hound is planning a bold assault on the larger ship, her pirate crew willing to risk it all for gold and glory. But Sea Hound is both predator and prey, as the HMS Steadfast closes in for another encounter with her quarry. The deadly showdown between the three forces is fast approaching...

Please report to the thread 'Crimson Night' and write a finishing post for your character and/or the battle. We would have liked to end the site gracefully with the finishing of the battle but it is moving far too slowly. If you are interested in continuing your character's story the rp Before the Mast is a great place to check out. Elena is the Admin and she does a very good job Thank you to all who have stuck with us this long and I hope to write with you all again some time. To all of you at Beat to Quarters: sail fast!

I will contribute a new post after the next one, then also as often as it is needed until the battle ends. Which I foresee at least 2, if not 3 more posts of mine. But in order for me to have what to post, I need the others' too.
I'll be on holidays between 4-th of September and 17-th of September, and therefore I'll be able to be less active then.
I think I'll succeed to get online every day or mostly every day, but just for a little bit, so I'll post what I manage to, you won't be waiting for ME to post.
About the site closing, I have seen sites which remained as such, just all registrations closed and the notice on it, and sites which went offline after closure. It would be a pity for all our two years' work to get it offline. I'd like it to remain. Closed to other registrations, but for the posterity to read our story.

I am planning to archive all of the threads and character bios after the site's registration closes. It will take some time but the site won't go offline till then and I would be more than happy to send you a copy of the whole story if you'd like your own I will be keeping the DA group open since people seem to like it well enough and I think I'll post parts of the stories there as well. For anyone interested in playing on DA, I'll direct them to Before the Mast for ya!

Archiving and letting only the archives visible it is OK, but why go offline at all? This is what I am trying to negotiate it with you, to stop registrations (in order to avoid spambots) but let it online for everybody to read. Read only, of course! It is our story, it is a beautiful one and I think nobody has any reason to be ashamed of it, to get it offline. There are sites which had died years ago and they are still online, and some people read their stories with interest. Yes, I'd like seeing the parts of the stories on DA too... And thanks for the advertising. I am here and not intending to go anywhere else... )
