The wind's a-blowin' and the sea awaits, so prepare for adventure...

The Tale So Far

September, 1741:

Madre de Dios, a Spanish galleon loaded with gold, is on her way back to Europe with her convoy. But an ambush lies in wait for her in the Inaguas – the Sea Hound is planning a bold assault on the larger ship, her pirate crew willing to risk it all for gold and glory. But Sea Hound is both predator and prey, as the HMS Steadfast closes in for another encounter with her quarry. The deadly showdown between the three forces is fast approaching...

How much are you truly like the Character(s) you play on Beat To Quarters?

It was an exercise in a writing course I took a while back. The Professor had asked the students to list three main things that they shared in common with their character(s). It was a way to better know the student through their character(s).

Would you like to give it a try?

Georgiana and I have a love of learning, we are both curious and we think too much sometimes.

Like Sol, there is no challenge I won’t take (actually a RPG in English was also such a challenge for me), I am “thinking in songs” like him and I like Spanish and Mexican music (and not only – unfortunately, without being able to sing it/ play it). I have the same desire to win against any obstacles life may get in my way and succeed through my own forces, to leave something behind me, my name on something (even if this is likely to be only some published papers and some successfully implemented projects).

Lydia and i have little in common. Perhaps except the bossiness and our attempts to become natural leaders.

Hmm. A fun exercise. I believe most of my characters share at least one of my traits, but I enjoy playing characters who are different enough from myself to be a challenge.

Like Thorne:
- I like my alone time
- I read and I'm fairly well-educated
- I have mood swings, and alternate between manic and depressive
- Sometimes I'm grumpy and tactless for no apparent reason

Like Roach:
- I can talk my way out of most things
- I'm good with my hands
- I like explody things
- I'm an ass when I'm drunk

But unlike Roach, I'm hard-working, and I commit to things fiercely. And unlike Thorne, I'm more linguistically than mathematically inclined, and I do have *some* social skills/ a sense of humor. Certain similarities of character, be it personality, character flaws, habits or origins, all help to serve as an "in" to the character's psyche: something you can use as an access hatch from your brain to theirs.

((Since this is more of a discussion than a Game, per se, I'm leaving it here rather than the Games forum))

I suppose I am somewhat similar to Gray, i.e. our tempers or our social anxiety. Also we both have long brown hair. Then again we are fairly different, in that I'm no fighter, and I was never mistreated as a child, and also I don't know the first thing about commanding a platoon of Royal Marines wink.gif

There exist almost no similarities between me and Glover however, he is tall, strong, and unintelligent, whereas I am short, weak, and smart, or at least I'd like to think that I am, smart that is, (the other two I could take or leave smile.gif )

Hm. Increase is sober, productive, and pious. I, on the other hand, am an irresponsible, godless slugabed. Yes, a slugabed. It seems we both have anxiety disorders, though, so there's that.

I was tempted to say, at first, that I don't have anything in common with Edmund. However, after a more careful thought, I discovered there are still a few similarities: loving parties, dancing (which can be noticed from my preference to describing dance scenes - but I am far from being as skilled as he is!) and being in the centre of attention (but me only sometimes, not always, like him, and without being as vain as he is!). Well, maybe also the fact that I don’t like taking risks I can’t manage?

Like Marina, I am ambitious, stubborn and willing to learn anything new. I'm friendly and peaceful, too!

I think I share with Maribel the love for songs and dances, a practical business spirit and perhaps a bit of her need for attention (but only a bit).
