Jake also sits.

Harris follows any orders that include the survivors from his regiment.

General Ellis turns to the marines "First off, im sorry you all went through that meat grinder, we lost 20 men all told from this ship, however we did get some of the veterans back." She pauses "The creature, its to be considered a closed topic, not for discussion, if news of an alien threat like this got out it could cause panic, and that could be bad for the colonial administration." She pauses again "Im sorry to ask this of you, but in all future reference to this, those marines died in an explosive decompression on board a damaged ship, attempting a rescue. Those marines will be the heroes they were, we just cant let it be known why." she scans the room "Any questions?"

Jake glances at Par in consternation but says nothing.

"Just one, General," Par says, anger boiling in his eyes. "Why didn't we see this coming sooner? I know it wasn't anyone here's fault, but why in the hell did so many of my friends have to die? Was there any way we could have prevented this, foreseen it somehow?"

"Wrong question," Harris murmers to himself.

"We have never encountered this creature before, as you have seen its tech is far beyond anything we have found. we lost many men today, however if we can crack this creatures weaponry it may give us the tech to save millions of lives, and also give us an edge if this turns into a war." The general sags "Nothing i say will bring em back, but they died on their feet like marines."

"General," Harris says, then waits to be acknowledged before asking, "What officially damaged the ship?"

"Officially, there was an encounter with a meteor shower which caused severe damage and eventually the loss of the ship, but not before another nearby vessel could rescue some lucky survivors." The general looks unhappy "It was an unfortunate accident."

Jake mutters something under his breath, obviously not happy about the whole thing.

Harris accepts the answer, although he is obviously unhappy with it.
