[The Love Duck]

“AttenSHUN!” barks Sergeant Faulkes, coming swiftly to attention as he spots General Ellis enter the briefing room “Offisah on deck.” Faulkes thick Irish American accent slurs the words slightly. Ellis steps into the room moving swiftly to the podium, she strides past the men, moving assuredly, every inch the 30 year veteran colonial marine. Her figure is still trim, filling out her combat fatigues in all the right places despite her age, her raven hair shot through with silver, her brown eyes cold, hardened by her time in the corps. “Stand at ease.” Ellis says in her crisp, New England accent. “Men, we have an assignment, I was not at liberty to tell you until we were underway, but now (there is a thrumm as the engines engage), I can tell you our target.” She clicks a remote and a tac map of a system appears on a screen behind her. “This is the Helios system, we are to rendezvous with the USCM vessel Gibraltar in the system, and in conjunction with the 21st marine regiment, we are to suppress a rebellion amongst the colonists on Helio III.”

She pauses, takes a breath and continues “This probably wont be a pleasant assignment, Helios is several weeks away, and there is going to have to be hypersleep for all of us marines.” She scans the room “Any questions?”

"sir yes sir " sam marches forward one pace slamming his heavy size 13 boot in to the floor an raises an arm "sir how long will we be in hyper sleep"
sam still stands there with his arm in the air.

"36 days, if all goes according to plan, we will be woken 2 days before rendevous."

Par nods, smiling slightly. But he also raises his hand. "Ma'am, about how well armed are the rebels? State of the art, or just older stuff?"

sam grins like a cesser cat at the comment.

"Yeah, but it's more fun when less of ours get hurt," he returns.

Jozz perks up, paying attention put staying silent.

Ellis looks annoyed "There were two squads of marines stationed on Helio III, we lost contact with them, and they are assumed hostage or dead, so they will have at least a few high tech weapons. The colony wasn't supplied for war, so there shouldn't be too much in the way of firepower, and most of what there is is automated, Sentry guns and roboemplacements." She pauses then adds "Which brings me to your tasks, C platoon (you guys) have been assigned to secure the generator for the sentry guns and roboemplacements defending the main colony, A and B platoons are to secure the landing field, whilst D, E and F platoons secure the main colony buildings, G and H platoons have to secure the main roadway between the Colony buildings and the landing field, whilst I and J platoons perform harrying distraction attacks."

"There will be a full tac briefing when we are in range to perform scans and work out a full tac overlay for you all."

Jacobs (commonly called Jake) pulls out his reading glasses as Ellis brings up the map, pushing them up his nose with a finger. He studies the map, giving a wry grin at the banter between Sam and Par, but not saying anything.

"sounds like a walk in the park " sam says in a sarcastic wisper to par.

Faulkes spots the whisper and barks "Private Wiseman, is the joke good enough to share with the rest of us?"

Ellis waves at Faulkes, then adresses the men again "I know this isnt glamorous, it isnt what i would have chosen for your first field mission, that is why we are joining an experienced company for this mission, but you are marines, and we have trained you to the best of our abilities, and i am sure you will make us proud." She snaps into a salute "Unless there are any other questions marines? you are dismissed, you have 5 hours until we begin hypersleeping, so you can spend them how you wish."

::Eruzione returns the LTs salute, then proceeds to read any accompanying documentation for the mission, before performing a gear check. He's easily found by the smell of cigarette smoke near his bed.

::Jozz Salutes and reads whatever other mission documentation they were provided. He returns to his bunk and reads through a well thumbed copy of "War And Peace" before the sleep.

sam heads down to the gym with victor to burn off a bit of strengh an agreson before the big sleep kicks in .
