Welcome to Alternate History Roleplaying (AHRP). This is a Geo-political simulator in which you represent the governmental leadership of any ‘real world’ nations currently in existence on the planet earth. If you have an affinity towards politics you have come to the right place. Now to get you started, we have established a few guidelines to get you on the path to national leadership.

Step #1: When you first register an account with AHRP, register as the name of a country that exists in the world today (ie: Algeria, Libya, Jordan etc.). A list of available nation names scrolls by above. If you have already registered a name like “Joe495”, then you obviously made a mistake. I suggest deleting that account and starting over.

Step #2: Introduce yourself in the map thread so that an admin knows you need a state section. In the States section of the forum, you will find important governmental and military information about your nation. The detail of what is listed there is left up to you. Take a look at Denmark for an example of what you can create in this section.

Step #3: Read as much about the nation you intend to play so you have an understanding of their political situation at home and their position in world affairs. As in any roleplaying game, you can act as a national leader however you see fit, but attempting to imitate reality is favored. Naturally, I am not Nicolas Sarkozy and can only guess what he would do based on positions he has taken in similar situations.

Step #4: Read the Wikipedia page on your nation and determine how many soldiers and what military equipment are available for your nation. This information will be posted in your states section. USA will post your military in that section for you if you aren’t sure what to do.

Step #5: Create a Government page in the 'States' section so that there is a record of who is in your nation’s leadership. You can develop this any way you see fit. Look at other nation’s States section for guidance.

Step #6: Set your avatar to a nice wavy flag from the Danish Flag shop here. (credit goes to Denmark for finding the website.) Please use the Medium Sized flage with the White Background.

Step #6: DO NOT go to war at the first opportunity. We implemented a rule that new nations can not go to war within the first two weeks of playing AHRP. This game is not just about war. It is more about politics. Remember do not attack a nation without a reason otherwise the world will not be happy. If you read some of our recent history, you will notice that a few nations chose to go to war too quickly and have been destroyed by the world’s armies.

Step #7: Do not make any radical changes too soon after you have joined. If you decide to leave the game, for example, by staging a military coup, it can really mess the game up for others. This will have recurring problems for a new player who may choose to play as your former nation.

Observe the game for a while, and see if you are still interested, before committing to anything to big. It is acceptable to send Private messages to other players asking questions or for gaining advice on how to start. When I first stated I received help from Saudi Arabia, USA, Russia, Iran, Denmark and United Kingdom. Everyone is helpful because they enjoy the participation and are interested in your input.

The current date is posted in the date thread here. It progresses at a different rate than real time. When we are in Peace Time, one real day equals 14 days in game. When one to four nations are involved in a war; what we call “War Time”, one real day equals three days in game. When five or more nations are involved in a war; “Large War Time” then one real day equals one day in game. You can see which mode we are in at this thread here.

Relax and enjoy!
