One of the reasons I got this program was to highten security and allow me to monitor traffic after someone logged into my router. I turn off DHCP, WEP, SSID and all that other stuff. My dumb router can only make a "black list" of MAC addresses, so I couldn't use that until after someone gets in.
Well, anyway, someone had found my router, cracked WEP and obtained an IP address. I only noticed it after my software firewall logs reported frequent access attempts from 192.168.1.109. The thing is, of the five computers I have hooked up none of them had that static IP address. I looked into my routers settings and there it was, six MAC addresses even though I had five computers. I walked around my house trying to find the asshole with the laptop, but he/she must have been well hidden. For all I know it might have been my neighbor. Well, I went back inside and added that MAC address to the black list. Then I changed the WEP key and the password for the router (just in case) and changed the default subnet address. Problem solved, at least for now. |
