Name: P'lin (Palin)
user posted imageuser posted image

Nicknames: none yet

Sex/gender: Male

Age: 17t

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 205

Physical Appearance:

Crystaline blue eyes are the only feature that young Palin shares with the man he calls father. His thick, dark hair hangs to just beyond his shoulders, normally tied in a warriors braid when the young man travels. When loosed, natural highlights from the sun can be seen, bringing an auburn to his otherwise brown nest. His face is lean, with a strong chin and hard lines, giving him a rugged look to his sun-bronzed skin. The only blemish on his handsome face is a long scar across his left cheek. Luckily for the youth it healed well, and if anything adds character to his face.

The guardsman stands a few inches over six feet, and is solidly build with muscles trained by weapon use and hard work. Light leather armor covers his upper body, with a pair of thigh guards over the long trousers he wears on the road. Worn leather boots tend to cover his feet in travel. When within a Weyr or hold, his dress is more relaxed, most frequently a simple tunic and long trousers. A well used and cared for sword is typically worn between his shoulder blades, and a brace of knives rest at his waist.

Likes:

Combat, leading men at arms, keeping his body as 'perfect' as possible. Women, even though he really only knows what to do from other warriors boasting.

Dislikes:

situations out side of combat, feeling uncomfortable, not knowing what to say or do

Sexuality: Straight, but innocent.

Strengths:

Palin was raised to be a warrior, and with his life to date, he has proven to be a very effective one. Strong, agile, he has a quick mind for tactics and the every changing situations that one encounters in combat.

Weaknesses:

His greatest strength is the cause of his weakness. Outside of battle, and apart from his comrades in arms, Palin is lost. While he still maintains his demeanor, he tends to fall to the background, not sure how to interact with most 'common' people. He has little to no experience outside of fighting, and the life of a caravan guard.

Personality:

When riding with the caravan and guards, Palin is serious, and slightly worrisome, though he doesn't let the words escape his lips aside from with his Baldarin, the man he calls his father. At his young age he is second among those that protect his father and the other traders that travel with him, and as such he has had to deal with much older warriors challenging his authority, time and time again, proving why he holds his position. Outside of his position though, Palin is still an awkward youth, his position keeping him busy when many others of his age are learning of the 'birds and bees', and enjoying the company of friends. Palin considers only his father and a few of the senior guardsmen with them friends, however...they are old men, and their youth's are long past. He finds himself easily entranced by fair women, but unfortunately has never learned the social skills to properly approach one.

Mannerisms:

Palin is almost truly two separate men. In physical, pressure situations or situations where he can use his trained body to his advantage, his every movement is smooth, his long limbs relaxed as he moves in total control. When outside of battle but among his comrades-in-arms, he will frequently tend to one of his blades, almost constantly at least wiping down a dagger's hilt with an oil cloth. Taken outside his comfort zone though, he is hesitant, and questions everything within his head. He fidgets uncomfortably it in a situation where he must be still, or will frequently pace if he has the option to move.

Points of interest:

At 17, he has spent almost 2/3s of his life studying combat.

History:

Palin is, so to speak, adopted, though he doesn't know. The man he calls his father is a successful trader. In the past he lead a caravan into a remote hold. The 22 year old caravan master was approached by one of the hold's guardsmen, informing him of a large band of bandits that were preying on traders that had been leaving the hold recently. A plan was made and numerous guardsmen hid in the wagons, and when the bandits attacked, they were able to overcome them, tracking the survivors back to their camp. With most of the bandits killed or captive, the large trader was helping to round up those in hiding, and found a young boy of 5 sleeping in of the bandits shanties. After discussing it with the others, he chose to take the boy with him, and since that day has raised him as he thought a father should, giving himself an eventual heir should no other arise.

Noticing the boy's natural athleticism, Baldarin apprenticed him young to the captain of his guards, allowing the man to groom Palin into as perfect of a warrior as he would be able to. He spent his days on horseback, learning swords and bows, throwing knives and fists. By the campfires he was taught to read and write, as well as to do his figures. At the age of 15 (after 10 years of training), he was promoted to the captain's second, since then frequently riding at the head of the caravan's in the most dangerous of situations. The boy has since proved to be an apt leader though, holding an amazing grasp of tactics and weaponry skills.

More recently, the caravan was near Aerten Weyr. The guardsmen noted a blue landing nearby, so Palin and a few other's approached. The blue rider has been on foot, collecting herbs when the group arrived, and pleasantly talked with the other guards as Palin keep watch. The blue noted him, and mentally conferred with the rider, informing him that he believed the youth to be a prime candidate for the upcoming hatching.

Discussing it with Palin's father, they agreed to let the youth stand, and the rider brought him to the Weyr.

Let it be known that I never gave up. I was never willing to just walk away. I was the only one willing to try. But even the brightest flames can be smothered by the greatest darkness. Aerten Weyr will live on, because I was the only one who never gave up.
