I knew more specifically in the South at least, the mind-blowing plethora of natural flora have many uses, and there are certainly many that can be refined into drugs. Refinery is not beyond the pernese but I am not sure how advanced the technology of the Aerten pern is.

Pot on Pern. Nice. It is actually entirely possible. Remember our friend marijuana has medicinal uses besides just getting you high. Let the colonists have their high.

I remember reading somewhere (don't ask me where >.<) that fellis was addictive, though I don't know if in the....exact way y'all are talking. In the same somewhere, it talked about 'fellis dreams' which I'm assuming are something related to being high. So...it's a sleep aid, a slight pain killer, and it causes hallucinations when taken in large, continuous dosages. Sounds like a drug to me.

yeah fellis is habit forming but healers know it and watch it closely. The elderly gold rider from Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern (whose name escapes me) takes fellis regularly, but she's not even allowed to dose herself - Moreta has to do it for her. I always assumed this was to lessen the chances ot the patient abusing the drug.
but if someone's sneaky enough they could probably manage to steal fellis from the infirmary. however, the healers would probably notice and take steps to secure the fellis/catch the person. can't really blame them since fellis can kill. |
