KCKCC "GHOST BIDS"
The KCKCC event included 42 teams from Kansas and 26 teams from neighboring states. Eight Kansas teams won the double-octofinal, thereby reaching the octofinal round and qualifying for a DCI bid. The following Kansas teams did not recieve DCI bids; they were also among the top 16 teams from Kansas and had either 4-2 or 5-1 records, but lost in Double-octofinals:

Runge/Prochazka, Newton (already DCI qualified)
Birzer/Saiedian, BVW (subsequently DCI qualified)
Boor/Steffen, Buhler (already DCI qualified)
Bergman/Monaghan, SMS (first bid)
Sivakumar/Jones, BVN (first bid)

The following teams with 3-3 records were the 14th-16th ranked Kansas teams at the event:

Kearney/Schiele, WaRu (subsequently DCI qualified)
Oatman/Richey, BVW (already DCI qualified)
Nelson/Yeamans, BVW (first bid)

In other words, the awarding of ghost bids would not have altered the size of the DCI field this year. In previous years, the field would have expanded by 1 or 2 teams.

EFFECTS OF REFORM PROPOSALS ON THE SIZE OF THE DCI FIELD

Current field size: 43 teams
Awarding bids based on top 8/16 teams FROM KANSAS: no change
Requiring 3 bids: Field drops to 21 teams
No Octos bids: Field drops to 36 teams
No CFL bids: Field drops to 41 teams
No Octos or CFL bids: Field drops to 33 teams

You are going to have to be more specific. All I have is names that are sent to me. Sangimino from Maize? Eggers from Free State?

Could you explain the significance of the "Ghost Bid?" I am assuming that it does not actually count for anything but could you clarify?

The "ghost bids" are meaningless in terms of qualification to DCI. There has been discussion by some coaches that the qualification parameters for the KCKCC tournament might be changed due to the presence of many excellent non-Kansas teams; in order to facilitate informed discussion of the subject, I have elected to include data relevant to that discussion on this page.

Is there any chance that a ghost bid could turn into a real bid this year?

Of Kansas teams...

Newton Runge/Prochazka was 2nd
BVW Birzer/Saiedian was 6th
Buhler Boor/Steffen was 7th
SMS Bergman/Monaghan was 10th
BVN Sivakumar/Jones was 11th

And at a tournament with 68 teams, they don't get bids? Or if only out of the 42 Kansas teams, shouldn't Newton, BVW, and Buhler still get a bid?

This is true. The original rules say bid divisions with 48+ give bids to top 16 which would indicate that all of them would receive a bid. But if only KS teams received bids at a tournament where 42 KS teams attended, Newton, BVW, and Buhler should still recieve a bid.

I guess this isn't a big factor for Newton, Buhler, or the already qualified BVW team, but for the other 2 BVWs, BVN, SMS, and WaRu, the KCKCC bid has huge implications on their season and DCI qualification.

Categorically: no, the "ghost bids" do not count for DCI. There is no chance whatsoever that they will count for DCI qualification this year. None. Zero.

The information was included on this page in order to facilitate discussion at the DCI coaches' meeting on the question of whether the KCKCC qualification standard ought to be changed in future years. My own vote will be to preserve the existing standard, but I felt that the members of the community ought to have access to the full statistical picture in order to make up their own minds. I did this of my own accord and without seeking approval of permission of any other coach, so if adding the information to the page is a problem for anyone, I am the person to blame.

I did not say whatever the person who quoted me said. That was weird. Please do not claim to quote me again without my knowledge or permission.
