A Charmed World Rules and Guidelines

DISCLAIMER: A Charmed World is not in any way related to the WB's show Charmed. All characters and names belong to the WB, all else to A Charmed World. This Role-Playing board is rated R. You should not join if you do not wish to take part in a game which could include scenes of a graphic sexual or violent nature.

Getting Started

If you like what you see at A Charmed World and wish to take part, signing up is easy. Click on the Register link and fill in the form as it applies to you. Firstly, you will need to select a username. Your username is very important, as it is the name of the character you will be playing.

Please make sure your username adheres to this list:

  • Does not include numbers or symbols (*,~,# etc)

  • Is not the name of a character from the show, or somebody already in the game (it may be difficult to know if your name has been taken, but you will be notified if it has)

  • Is simply a real, plausible name!

  • Last names are not necessary, but allowed.

It seems like a lot of restrictions, but when you think about it, really it's not. Names are very important in the World, because, obviously, it's how we know who is who, and if you have a realistic name, the World is more realistic also.

Once you've signed up, you'll see that the member group you are in is called "Auditioning". This, quite simply, just states that you need to audition before being allowed to post in The World. You can, however, post in the Chat and Help forum, so have something to do while you're waiting for the result of your audition.

Yes, you need to Audition to join A Charmed World. If you've taken a look around, you'll probably have noticed just how seriously this RPG is taken. For this reason, we are very careful about who we let in. You must be a dedicated RPGer, and really know your stuff before we'll let you in. You can Audition as much as you like, and if you don't succeed, a reason why not will be given to you so you can work on it for next time. Don't be disheartened if it seems you keep getting rejected - once you make it in, you'll know you earned it. The Auditioning thread is located right this way.

Posting Etiquette

Here at A Charmed World there is only one way to post, and when universally practised by all members, maintains a pleasant appearance for the board, and also makes each post easy to understand. As a character, you are able to post your words, thoughts and actions, and here's how to do it:

~

::When your character is doing something, you write, in the present tense, the details inside double colons.::

"If your character is speaking, give them quotation marks."

(And as for thinking, you post your thoughts inside brackets, with the whole thing italicised.)

~

Easy enough, non? Stick to this way of posting and you won't go wrong. Mind your spelling too! Remember we don't accept kewl talk or dIsToRtEd TeXt here, and your posts containing these things will be edited.

Entering and Leaving The World

It's easy enough, really. Once you've gotten past your Audition, you head over to the Character Creation thread and from there on it's pretty self-explanatory.

Leaving the World, is a little different. We must have notice of your absence, because leaving us in the lurch will ensure either reduced privelages or possibly banning from the World.

Life and Death in the World

In real life, people live, and they also die. You, as a character in A Charmed World, are not invincible. You can take beatings and survive, you can get healed by a Whitelighter just in the nick of time, but you can also die. Accept it. If you take your last breath, you must detail it in your post.

::Character leans over, as if he's about to get up, but suddenly falls back down and lays still, eyes wide and staring. Character is dead.::

Following which, an independant post will be made by The Powers That Be reiterating the point. From there, you have two options. None are wonderful. You can head up to the Realm of the Dead, Up There, to spend some time, or leave your character to rest. The second option is recommended, however, with the first, resurrection is then possible, as is Whitelightership, but both occasions are rare. Very rare. If you're an evil being who has been killed, you get banished to The Wasteland, where the same rules apply, but it is slightly more possible to be brought back by The Source or a demonic associate.

Members caught trying to cheat death will learn the lesson that you cannot escapse Death. It always gets what it desires.

However, please rememeber that if you die, it doesn't mean you cannot start all over again with a new character, and new powers, and a whole new life!

That's all for now. If you think the Guidelines are missing anything, don't hesitate to PM kaytee83 or The Powers That Be. Thank you for reading.
