he showed up early, which was a bad idea considering he was paranoid, and she wasn't there yet, so what if he had gotten the wrong place? but he'd written it down, and he had been there before more than once, so he didn't know what he was worrying about. he knew that it wasn't that he was worried that she wouldn't show up - avarie wasn't like that. and she liked him, anyway, so unless it was something important, she wouldn't do that to him. he had been on a zillion first dates before, but he hadn't felt like this in so long... which meant that xavier usually went out with women he had only moderate interest in (a terrible habit) because it lessened the blow of rejection... and that wasn't the case here. if she rejected him, rejection would get him good in the face. anyway, he hoped that she would get there soon, because he really did not like sitting around and thinking about what she would do when she got there or what he would do and what she would think of what he did... the sooner she got there, the sooner he would know. xavier ran a hand through his messy hair, letting out a deep breath and checking the clock. there was one minute left.
avarie was going to be on time even if it ended up killing her. she'd never been one to actually be on time, or even be early. it just wasn't one of her many charming personality traits. she didn't know if xavier was going to be on time, or late. she knew that xavier liked her as he'd admitted while he was drunk - still, she didn't know if that applied - and he'd be there. not that she was worried or anything crazy like that, but she was a typical female. she overanalyzed things at the most inopportune time. as many boyfriends as avarie had gone through, she hadn't actually felt like this. it was different with him even if they hadn't been dating all that long. were they even dating? she wasn't even sure what was going on half the time. they hadn't really put a label on it. he'd been her best friend for so long that she didn't know how it would feel calling him her boyfriend. in her experience, boyfriend's of hers hadn't stuck around that long and she didn't want that to happen with him. arriving at the place they talked about, avarie could see him sitting inside, alone. she hated seeing him alone and knowing where his thoughts went during a time like that. clearing her throat, she opened the door, approached his table and sat down across from him. "waiting for someone special?" she asked him with a smile playing on her lips.THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN US COULD DESTROY THIS PLACE
xavier decided that maybe while waiting for her, a good idea was to just start thinking about irrelevant things. so he thought about ducks for a second, wondering why it was ducks that came to mind first and also just wondering what there was to think about about ducks. he got to a point where he thought it might be amusing if he imagined that everyone in his favorite movie was a duck, and then she walked in, and he thanked... fate. (this would be an appropriate place to explain his religious beliefs but at the same time no one really cares, so that will be left out in order to waste less of everyone's time.) he smiled as she sat down and then chuckled, "mhm. i hope she comes soon or else i may be tempted to just ditch her for you." he had an urge to kiss her and because he decided that it was better to just do things like this than think about them, he leaned forward and gave her a 'hello' kiss. there was a smile on his face as he pulled away. he suddenly dropped the smile, looking around with a guilty look on his face, "oh, man. what if she had walked in right then?" he grinned at her, "how are you, beautiful?"
avarie had done a bit too much thinking where this date with xavier was concerned. while she didn't expect to ever be dating him, it wasn't something that she would ever turn down. it was probably a secret to him that she'd harbored this stupid crush on him since they met. he was too good looking for his own, well, good. she'd probably mentioned it to him a few times, but never enough to inflate his ego. she knew that this would change their friendship completely, but maybe that wasn't such a bad thing. her mother had warned her about dating white men, but that wasn't a concern of hers. smiling at his words, she shook her head. "she must not be too special if you're willing to ditch her for me," she mentioned with a curious look on her face. seeing him lean in only made her smile wider before she kissed him back quickly. this whole pda thing was weird for her, but something she could get over. "i guess you'd be getting dumped then, but at least you upgraded," she added with a smile playing on her lips. "i am much better now. and, how are you?"THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN US COULD DESTROY THIS PLACE
xavier shrugged, "possible. but maybe you're just really special." he said it jokingly, but he really did think she was special, for so many reasons. he laughed and then responded in a skeptical voice, "i don't know, ave. i mean, considering she's imaginary, i could totally get her to do anything i want, like..." he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, "... bake me cookies. or..." he wiggled them again, then thought for a moment, "or, you know what? not bake me cookies. because we don't want me getting fat." he grinned, "i'm much better now, too." xavier was many things; a literary agent, previously a cheater, sometimes an asshole, but a whole lot of the time, he was an overthinker, and that gave him a lot of problems, especially when he opened up to people. it always managed to make him feel better before making him feel worse; some people find that ridiculousness endearing, and some people find it just plain annoying. he tried to let things go; to just do what he felt he should and not think too much further; but he always ended up going back to it. "so... uh... tell me something about yourself that i don't already know."
