Molly walked purposefully towards the library with her head held high, one thin textbook tucked snugly under her arm against her side. She really had no use for the place. It was always so quiet and boring. What the hell was a girl supposed to do there? Study? But it was Lily’s idea, and usually whatever Lily did, so did Molly.
It was amazing how different the two best friends were; Lily was smart and sweet whereas Molly was more, well, not. She had the reputation for being somewhat of a badass and a bitch at best, but the best part of it was that she really couldn’t have cared less. Let them think what they wanted. If they didn’t love her, it was their problem.
When she finally reached the library after what seemed like an unusually long walk from the Gryffindor common room, Molly slowed her pace and strode through the doors hesitantly. Sure enough, there was Madam Pince, glaring at her from behind spectacles that were far too large for her bony face. Molly smiled and gave her a small wave, “Good morning, Madam Pince!” She said brightly, wincing as the batty old lady began flailing her hands in a sort of shooing motion.
“This is a library, Miss Prewett!” She hissed, slamming the book she was reading rather forcefully. “It means silence!”
Molly averted her eyes and quickly took off in the opposite direction, looking around anxiously for Lily. The last thing she wanted was to be stuck there with some old crone yelling at her for being polite. What was happening to adults nowadays? It seemed as though they were all going insane. Either that or it was just her… No, no, it was definitely them.
A flash of red hair caught Molly’s eyes and she grinned, bouncing over to a table by the window where another girl was seated, quite alone. On her way, one Ravenclaw boy ‘accidentally’ bumped into her, forcing her to turn around and say, “What, Hodge? Think taking out the Beater before the next match will actually give you a shot?” She watched as the boy met up with his friend and gave him a nudge and a glance back at her while they walked away. Laughing, with a flip of her hair, Molly pulled out an empty chair and flopped down.
“I swear that librarian lady is out to get me,” she said in a whisper that was probably loud enough to be heard across the room. “Ever since that time I tried to paint my nails in here and - ooh,” Molly reached over and touched a pretty silver bracelet Lily had on her wrist. The charms that dangled on it gave a soft little tinkle as she ran her finger over them, and Molly couldn’t help but giggle.
“That’s pretty cute. Gift from Jamesy?” She looked over mischievously and rested her chin in her hands, waiting quiet attentively to hear any new developments between the two.

Lily looked up from her book and grinned at Molly. That girl was fiery, Lily would give her that. When Lily was upset her and Molly were a lot more alike then when she was calm. Molly, it seemed, was never calm in her life. That just made Lily like her more, of course. Lily glanced down at the silver bracelet and blushed lightly. She didn't know who had given it to her, actually. She had gotten it that morning at breakfast by an owl anonymously. At the time she didn't really focus on the who, she was more into how pretty it had been.
"I don't know," she answered honestly, "but now that you mention it...I can't think of anyone else who would," that too was the truth. She didn't have anyone else who liked her, that she could think of anyway. Unless it was from Snape and he was trying to apologize again.
"Though I don't see why he would give me this. I don't think he likes me that much, I think he just likes the challenge I present. So what about you? Who is the famous Molly Prewett dating," Lily raised an eyebrow at her friend and grinned. Molly dated quite a few people, not because she was...a whore...or anything. She just had a lot of options and nobody seemed to appeal to her.

“Oh, I think he likes you that much,” Molly said brightly, not moving from her pose of intense listening. If it was one thing, she loved gossip, especially when it wasn’t about her. It seemed like a lot of the stuff she did hear around school involved her and whoever her new counterpart was at the time. Well it was either that or what new illegal thing the Marauders were up to. She loved hearing about other people. And her favorite other person was her best friend. Because she deserved attention too… as much as she didn’t seem to want it.
“I mean he never sent me an anonymous charm bracelet. Such a pretty bracelet!” She put on a pout and leaned in further. “But you don’t think Snape sent it, do you?” Molly asked, this time actually lowering her voice. She could keep secrets if she wanted to. It was hard, yes. But she could do it. Sort of.
“I mean if you want my opinion, I don’t think that’s his style. It was definitely James. And he definitely fancies you!” She shook her head and sighed in an overly dramatic, dreamy fashion. “I wish he liked me like that! I wish someone did!” Molly folded her arms along the table and dug her chin into them.
“Right now I’m not dating anyone… although I have been talking to er… someone,” blushing a nice shade of pink, Molly bit her lip and looked right into Lily’s emerald green eyes. “You have to promise you can’t tell! Because if anyone found out… especially in our house… I’d be dead.” She inhaled sharply and said in a voice that was barely audible.
“Regulus? Black?”

Lily sighed soflt and looked down at her wrist. She sure as hell hoped Snape didn't send it. If he did she was definitely sending it right back. She really didn't want to have anything to do with him anymore. Lily drug her eyes back to Molly and grinned slightly.
"Snape's dating that Ravenclaw girl I think, and if he were smart he wouldn't have wasted the money on me. Maybe I'll just ask James if he sent the damned thing. I hope he did," she said looking around her quickly, "but only because I really like it and don't want to send it back to Snape." Any lie could fly straight and true if one believe it enough. She wanted him to have sent it for a different reason entirely.
"Oh yes, I nearly forgot that he dated you for a while," Lily rolled her eyes and exhaled heavily, "He's dated everyone I know, which is really not something I look for in a guy."
Lily looked back into Molly's face and leaned back in her chair slightly. Oh dear lord, Regulus Black. Lily didn't have an issue with a Slytherin and a Gryffindor, if she had that would have been hypocrisy at it's finest right there. She did, however, think it slightly odd that Molly went from Sirius to his younger brother, and by odd I mean disturbing. Sirius was definitely not going to like this, if he found out, and Lily was not going to tell him.
"Regulus, huh? Well I can see the appeal...he's quite good looking, but then again all the Black's are," Lily searched Molly's face for a second then spit out, "Sirius is going to be pissed if he finds out Molls. Just...don't let him know? I can only imagine...it would just give Sirius yet another reason to hate his brother."

“Ew, someone would actually date him?” Molly wrinkled her nose in disgust. Sure, she had dated her share of guys… many thought it a bit promiscuous, but really she was just looking for love; the true kind, the one in fairy tales. But at this rate she wasn’t likely to find it. And Regulus Black certainly was handsome, but according to reputation, was no Prince Charming.
“Trust me. If you want me to ask him, Lils, I will. He wouldn’t dream of lying to me,” she grinned smugly. It was true. Her fiery temper was widely known throughout Hogwarts, and if people knew what was good for them, it was tell Molly Prewett what she wanted to hear, or face her wrath. It was one of the things that made her such a good friend. “But there’s no way in hell you’re sending it back, no matter who it was! It’s too cute.”
She flipped her hair off of her shoulder and gave another weighted sigh. Yes, that reaction was only to be expected. At least Lily didn’t simply dismiss it for absurd. He was a Slytherin after all, but that’s not the part that worried Molly, really. It was the being Sirius’s brother, thing. That was cause for worry.
“Well it’s not like we’re dating officially or anything…” Molly defended, biting her lip then looking down at her neatly manicured, hot pink nails. “But we were out in the courtyard and he was just so…” she looked around the library as though the right word would be floating around somewhere. “Romantic?” The word blurted out before she could stop herself. “We were standing in the rain! And he just pulled out his wand and then did this spell… everything went warm! He said he didn’t want me to catch a cold…” Molly couldn’t stop grinning, but practical thoughts seemed to get the better of her.
“But you know Sirius would find out. I’m surprised he hasn’t already! I mean… I had thought Regulus would have said something… or at least that someone would have seen us…” she nervously began biting the nails she was just admiring.
“He really seems to… I don’t know… like me? At least a little? Which is more than a lot of other guys I’ve been with, I can tell you right now! I wish James looked at me the way he looks at you…” she said, rolling her eyes with a meaningful look at Lily.
“Tell me you’ve said yes already, please?”

Lily laughed lightly. Everyone hated Snape and she almost felt sorry for him. Almost being the key word. After last year she really didn't give a shit anymore. She was actually tempted to help James torture him, atleast once anyway. "Snape isn't that bad if you're a pureblood," she murmured, looking down at her hands. It was sad that this was true, sad for him. Funniest thing was that Snape's own father was a muggle. She supposed that was why Snape detested them.
Lily sighed a flit of a grin played across her face, "That," she said, "is actually very sweet." She didn't think Regulus was that way, but she had never spoken to the boy in person anyway. She'd only ever heard what Sirius said and obviously it wasn't ever anything good.
"I guess we're just lucky Sirius hasn't found out," she replied using we on purpose. Once she had heard someone else's problems she involved herself far too much. One for all and all for one, right? She was just that type of person, "If he does...I don't know what he's going to do, Molls. I think Siri really liked you, which you know is saying something given his reputation."
"No," she said grinning, "I'll ask James. We're going out this weekend, you know, to Hogsmeade," Lily toyed with the bracelet absently, "I finally gave him his 'one chance.' I'm just afraid he's going to blow it, or maybe I will. Maybe after he talks to me he'll realize that I was never anything special," she looked over at Molly, "And why would you want James to be obsessed with you? It can be very annoying, I assure you."

“Um, Lily, I am a pureblood. And FYI, he’s still ew,” Molly shuddered at the thought. That was one Slytherin boy she was absolutely not willing to attempt dating. He was creepy and greasy and creepy. Not to mention if she even showed interest, James would have her head. Would he actually have the nerve not to start her in any upcoming matches? Would he do that if he found out about Reg? Would Sirius attack her with his Beater’s bat if he found out about Reg? Shit. Nothing good was going to come from this, was it?
“Reg really is sweet. I mean sure, a bit misunderstood… he’s not a bad guy. He’s really not,” she took a strand of her hair and started twirling it around her finger absentmindedly. “You really think Sirius liked me?” Molly locked eyes with Lily, looking for confirmation. She wouldn’t lie to her best friend about something like that.
“I mean he was always flirting with other girls. I just…I was looking for something more long term… but the Marauders aren’t really the best for that sort of thing. Did he really? Because I quite liked him too… But what about Regulus!? If I could ever get him to just, open up!” Molly let out a frustrated groan and let her head fall against the table.
“I will be single for the rest of my life!!” She looked up, however, with a grin on her face. “But at least my best friend will be happy… one chance with Potter and you’ll be hooked. Trust me.”

Lily nodded at Molly and grinned slightly. That was how Severus was. Misunderstood and sweet. She understood, she really did. Except if she compared Regulus to Snape Molly would have a nervous breakdown and Lily would hate to do that to her. Lily stared into Molly's hazel eyes without blinking. Was she serious?
"Yes, Sirius likes you. Sirius flirted with other girls because he's Sirius. It would be like," Lily thought for a moment, "It would be like Quidditch without Chasers, you know what I mean? It's his thing, but I think he doesn't stick to one girl out of fear."
Lily shrugged and leaned towards Molly, "If you like Regulus then stay with him. You shouldn't care what anyone else says, but you should be wary of whom he hangs out with, Molls. He's marked as one of the future Death Eaters...so just be careful, okay?"
Lily laughed, "One day alone with Potter may drive me crazy, not hook me, but who knows. Maybe we'll be okay together. We're so different it's a possibility, though a small one."

“But Regulus is, well…” Molly bit the inside of her cheek and made some sort of funny expression with her eyebrows while searching for how to describe the lovely Slytherin boy. “Insane. He’s insane. But he likes me, which is always good. But the insane part… that’s the not-so-good part.” She let the words flow and spill out almost like a waterfall. It was just as cleansing, and just as refreshing. It felt better to tell someone, at least, about her problems with insane boys. Especially someone who had much experience involving the same things.
“Which makes Siri seem, well… I mean who wouldn’t like him, right?” Molly gave a shaky laugh and ran a hand quickly through her long hair. “I’m just afraid if I were to go back to him… assuming you’re sure he’s still interested… Reg would be disappointed.” She drummed two fingers lightly against her bottom lip, which was curved into a slight pout. Oh, dilemmas! “And the last thing I’d want to do is cause him to go even more insane than he is already!”
She focused her attention out the window for a few moments, but turned her attention to Lily’s problems instead. “I think you two will be good together, I mean he does seem to really like you… And not just how he ‘really likes’ every other girl,” she laughed. “He’s different with you, and I see that! So you should at least stay open to the possibility, because it’d be worth it. Way more worth it than doing what I’m doing.”

Lily raised an eyebrow, "Insane? Come on, Molly, I'm sure he isn't insane," Lily tried to laugh it off, but Molly didn't flat out lie, maybe stretched the truth at times, but never tell a blantant lie to her. Her laugh died away, "What do you mean he's insane?"
Lily leaned forward and crossed her arms over the table. Okay, so she didn't love gossip, but she did like it sometimes. Lily's eyes sparkled, "Sooo," she said airily, "You would go back to Siri if he were still intereseted? I know he is. I yhink he really liked you, but he was afraid of that," Lily leaned in closer and whispered, "I'm pretty sure he has commitment issues. I mean, his own family disowned him, wouldn't that make you a little afraid it would happen with everyone you loved?"
Lily raised her eyebrows at Molly and leaned back, "If you know what I mean, besides, if Regulus got mad...it's not like you two are commited or anything, right?"
Lily pushed her hair back behind her ear and then grinned, "Plus, someone does look at you the way Potter looks at me, you just have yet to notice it. Everyone else knows and I think it's cute."

“Um, I mean he’s most definitely insane. Like… OCD or something,” Molly replied with wide eyes, making sure Lily got the hint that this was no joke. Sure, she felt a bit bad for Regulus, especially because of everything to do with his family. Sirius had told her everything about his stern bitch of a mother and the sort of pressures she put on them both… But still. It was no excuse to be crazy, was it?
“And er… Sirius… I suppose I just…” she felt her face growing hot. Sirius Black, most desirable boy in all of Hogwarts. What were the chances that he still liked her? That he liked her so much he was considering commitment? But Lily didn’t just say those sorts of things. She didn’t just make stuff up. “I’m definitely still interested! I just don’t know what we’d do about it. I mean, I’m looking for a real relationship… one that will last longer than three weeks, you know?” Molly gave a dreamy sigh.
“We’re not committed. We kissed. That’s all. But keep it quiet, because really if Sirius finds out he’d have my head. And get James to help him. And the last thing I want is half the Gryffindor sixth year guys after me!” She gave a shaky laugh.
“And if someone looks at me the way Potter looks at you, I would definitely know it! Who…?”
