Word of the drow contingents' victories over the towns traveled quickly. There were only a handful of skirmishes, resulting in a only a dozen civilian deaths. There were no drow casualties.

Unsbar was a different story. Quite surprisingly, the small town was more than prepared for the incoming orc army. They had holed themselves up well inside a sturdy little barricaded fortress in what used to be the town, and they had been doing an exceptionally good job at keeping the first waves of troops at bay, but had they known the overwhelming force that still waited outside the city walls, they would have known that there was absolutely no chance that they could hold them all off.

"Maggot filth!" The orc warlord cursed. He was very unhappy that so many of his troops were falling to these insignificant townspeople. He had called off the attack for the time being. The poor lieutenant to his right was taking the brunt of the this unhappiness.

"Have we not even killed one of the bastards!" he screamed, spittle flying from his tusked jaws.

"I'm sorry sir, they must have been building these barricades for a week. At the very least!" He gave a dumbfounded look to his superior officer, "They knew we were coming, sir... but how!"

The general screamed even louder, "I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THE DATE OF THE ATTACK THAT EARLY!"

------

Captain Regden of the small Unsbar guard looked through the tiny slot in the otherwise incredibly solid wall. He was glad that a man in league with Kaiser was actually a man in league with the Kingdom. With the extra time to prepare, the people of Unsbar had joined together and built an impressive defense of iron spikes and 12 foot walls of wood, iron plates and bricks. All of the inhabitants' homes had been dismantled for this to be completed so quickly. What had once been a sturdy little town, one would find only a ravaged mess of debris inside the small outer walls along with one hastily built little fortress.

"The town of Unsbar is forever in your debt," Regden thanked his informant on the other side of the crystal ball for the dozenth time.

The figure on the other side, chuckled, "I was born in Unsbar, Captain, and by the gods, I will not sit idly by and watch it fall. Hopefully, your messenger reaches the Rogue King before they figure out a way to break your defenses. Though you cannot see much from inside your barricades, I assure you that the force the Orc general has brought is ten-thousand strong..."

The captain's face went white. They didn't have a fraction of the arrows his archers would need to hold them off.

The informant continued, "Yes, your only hope is that they continue to try to find some way to get to you without sacrificing several hundred soldiers. Kaiser has taught his generals to be more conservative than that." He paused for a moment, as if thinking deeply to himself. "My best guess is that they have already sent a message back to Kaiser explaining their predicament. He WILL send back an answer to this barricade, I assure you. Probably his godforsaken dragons, or something just as damning. Hopefully the Rogue King sends help before Kaiser sends utter annihilation upon you," he laughed suddenly, "Oh, I do wish I could see the look on Kaiser's face when he finds out his plans were leaked! Sadly, I will probably already be attacking some unfortunate, defenseless town for the sake of keeping up my facade. Good luck to you all, and may god forgive me for what I have done and shall do before the Rogue King no longer needs my eyes upon Kaiser's doings."

The crystal ball went dark and Captain Regden breathed deeply, while looking back out of the slot in the wall. As he saw the waiting orcs and heard the sound of their immense numbers, he prayed that his informant was correct in his predictions, because if the enemy wished to sacrifice enough men, they could dismantle these barricades with brute force before the dawn came.

With a flash and a pop Spitz appeared seemingly out of nowhere, except he wasn't in the town he was sent to defend he was out side surrounded by an army of Orc's looking just as shocked as he must have. He was torn, a part of him loved where he was but another realized that The Rogue King had sent him here for a reason and it probably wasn't to die. Spikes erupted all over his body including an row of eight inch spikes down the center of his head, "we'll let's not sit here staring at each other all day then!"

QUOTE (The Rogue King @ Jan 29 2010, 04:17 PM)
He was torn, a part

OOC: I read that wrong the first time I saw it. LOL

BIC: Everyone in Unsbar heard the pop and saw the flash.

Captain Regden sent a man to go investigate. This is either an enemy scheme of some sort or help.

After a moment of breathless waiting, the scout returned, out of breath.

"It's a man! A crazy-ass looking, spiked man!" Fortunately, Spitz' reputation preceded him.

Captain Regden smiled, "It's an ally, from the King." He stood a little straighter at the surprising news. "We need to get him in here, because he wasn't sent here as the main backup - though I'm sure he would happily stay out there and take a hundred of the bastards with him, ha ha. Let's provide some covering fire!"

With that 40 archers filed out and popped up at the top of the barricade. They rained hell down on the enemies nearest to Spitz. Simultaneously, the barricade gate opened up with a grinding screech. In the doorway was the Captain and some of his best men huddling behind their shields.

"SPITZ! GET INSIDE QUICKLY!"

Meanwhile, in the hall of justice....

The orcs looked stupidly at the man who had suddenly teleported into the vicinity. Finally, one orc screamed, "Kill the human!" and charged wildly, his deadly sharp voulge bearing the insignia of the Kaiser swinging down.

Thirty more orcs snapped out of it and began to run towards Spitz. Most were taken by a hail of arrows before they could even reach their target, but a few made it through.

The arrows poured down all around Spitz and while they held the orcs off at first it didn't last long, soon they started getting through. Spitz was more than happy to welcome his foes with a flurry of fists, kicks, and of course headbutts. with each swing he also took a step toward the gate, the result was a path of death and destruction that the orcs couldn't comprehend, the man was unarmed as far as most of them could tell yet he was even killing the orcs that came from behind.

Then as the spiked warrior performing a pretty kick ass spinning attack an arrow struck through the bend of his knee. He glanced back more than annoyed toward the walls from which the arrow came. In that time a very large orc with a very large hammer struck Spitz in the chest, lucky for him all the hammer hit was a spike knocking the wind out of him instead of crushing bone. None the less he dropped to his knees, and slowly the orcs began to pile on each one trying to get a knife into the creature that was responsible for killing a few but more importantly scaring the shit out of them.

Soon the mountain of orcs piled onto Spitz where more than was really necessary. The men at the gate must have looked forlorn... after all there only help they had just appeared to have gotten his ass kicked. Suddenly seven massive spikes and several smaller ones erupted through the orcs impaling every single one of them. Then a single spike retracted and a dead orc rolled away reveling a very bloodied Spitz, "a little help over here, these fat asses have me pinned... literally!"

The Captain rushed out himself, decapitating a wounded orc with a swift swing of his sword. He shoved another away hard with his shoulder and then with a strained heave he rolled three orcs off of the heap. He grabbed Spitz with both arms and heaved him out.

"Let's get back inside!"

He half dragged Spitz through the door with all of his haste.

"CLOSE THE GATES NOW!"

Then he stopped and caught his breath, as the gates slammed shut.

Spitz slowly extended a sike from his palm until it was the right size for a cane. After he had his weight properly supported on the cane he looked around for a few minutes as if assessing the situation, then he quietly asked obviously trying to control his rage, "Which one of you shot me with a god damn ARROW!" the shout he ended with was enough to make some of the men question if the would be safer outside with the orcs.

The orcs howled and stamped their feet in anger. Again they, had been thwarted.

The Orc commander was really letting his lessers have it when suddenly he felt someone tap his shoulder.

He swivled around instantly and screamed, "WHAT!?"

"Look who's here!" said a little orc scout, positively beaming with excitement. He pointed to the North.

The commander smiled a very broad smile... "That's better!"

------------

Captain Regden didn't even have time to formally greet Spitz when a scout on the wall called down to him.

"SIR, COME LOOK!"

Pardoning himself, he climbed the ladder and looked out over the wall. He cursed, colorfully.

A contingent of drow elf shock troopers were on their way, dreadful warriors to a one. Behind them orcs led the leashes of 13 beastly, massive, and enraged cave trolls. The beasts hissed angrily from beneath their muzzles. The sight of the humans on the wall made them furious. Furious and hungry.

Commanding the whole group was one of the fiercest, strangest warriors Regden had ever seen. Standing as tall as two men and surely weighing more than 10, it's muscles physique rippled underneath it's leather armor. In it's hands it held a scythe the size of a young tree.

Somber, the Captain, climbed back down, and turned to address everyone.

"Ancestors help us all..." he looked to Spitz. "I surely mean no offense to you, but please tell me the Rogue King sends more help..."

Spitz seen the massive army and completely forgot about the arrow, he wasn't really angry about that anyway but felt that by principle he should be a little pissed off. The army amassed before him seemed unstoppable, it was hopeless to defend against this foe, even more so to attack. A tear ran down the young warriors face.

This was the happiest day in Spitz's life.

A plan started forming in his head, "ok... we are going to need more men if we want to hold out. Captain, we have until sun down before they attack, muster every man woman and child that can bear arm in this courtyard, get them armed and armored. Bring every craftsman, and mage to me, I don't care how good or bad they are, I need all of them." He glanced back over the wall at the army setting camp, and he remembered something he had seen a couple of gods do when he was in their service, they had done it as a game but it may work here, "also... bring me every brewery master and tavern keeper in town I have an idea."

As the Captain began to put Spitz' plans in motion, other plans were beginning outside the fortified city.

Zibakki smiled wickedly at the bustle going on behind the ridiculous wall. Oh, do prepare! It will make it so much more delicious when I tear your defenses down!

He walked up to the troll force. One of the massive beasts roared at him. Before the troll had finished, a massive fist connected to its nose, breaking it. Tears welled up in the trolls furious eyes, but it shyed away obediently.

Zibakki looked at the troll, but pointed at the wall. "Food's in there, beast!" Something registered in the things head and it rose to look at the walled city, beating its chest mightily.

"That's right!" he patted the troll, "Soon you feast."

The commander of the drow contingent applauded from behind. "You know how to handle a lesser beast, Zibakki," he bowed.

"Are your forces ready?" Zibakki asked.

"Yes, at dusk, they won't even know we are in the city until it is too late."

"You are mighty, drow warrior, but don't forget that these are very prepared people who are probably already expecting you." He looked the drow in the eyes, sternly. "Get in there, do not engage anyone that is not necessary, and be sure to blow that hole in the wall. After that, you may join the fray, but not before."

"It will be done."

Soon all Spitz had everyone busy the crafts men were hard at work on the catapults, most of the spellcasters had been rounded up and put to there special task while the same had been done with the tavern keepers and the brewery masters.

Spitz walked through the streets helping where he was most needed, when he walked across the wall he would randomly hurl an iron spike into the enemy horde and was, when ever an enemy was close enough, rewarded with screams of pain.

Seeing the spiked human walking along the wall so arrogantly enraged Zibakki.

He grabbed a small orc who had been being difficult lately and heaved it as hard as he could straight at Spitz.

The doomed orc screamed the whole way.

Zibakki just smiled. The sun was almost down. Time to nut up or shut up.

The defenses were ready and every one was in place, Spitz stood on the wall looking out over his enemy. They were vast compared to his men, and most of the buildings were mere rubble after everything that Spitz had constructed and reinforcing the wall. Suddenly a beam of light hit his eye for a split second causing him to flinch, the sun was almost down and few could direct a light like that, he smiled to himself looks like our odds just improved.

"Captain, they will begin there assault soon if they haven't already, who can tell with drow. As I'm sure your aware of siege weapons are usually implemented early on in an invasion, I doubt they will use theirs. Give me two volleys of night arrows, followed by some burners."

"Aye, sir. Archers at the ready! Aim! Fire!" The archers executed the command perfectly sending the first volley up over the wall toward the attackers, with any luck the setting sun would make the arrows difficult to see and there fore harder to dodge. "Ready a second volley! Aim! Fire!" and over the wall went the second. "Switch to burners!" Each archer pulled in arrow out of a nearby cauldron filled with oil. "Ready!" As they knocked their arrows a small group of men came by with torches and set each arrow ablaze. "Aim!... Fire!"

Spitz smiled as he anticipated the carnage, " ready catapults two, four, and six."
